What housework have you managed to get done today during half term?

I'm off work this week for half term, and already the house is a state. Sort of state where it's not really recovered from the weekend...I've been out this evening and now at 10pm I feel I need to catch up on the chores. Ha. I have managed to tidy up the living room and dining room and anti-bac'd the kitchen tops and washed the dishes.

So motivate me, what housework have fellow half term mum's done today?

Actually give me a quick chore to do and tell me to go and do it, please. Ha.

I've hoovered my & ds bedrooms, the landing & the bathroom, cleaned the bathroom from top to bottom, emptied, filled and run the dishwasher and made lunch & supper.

(not housework exactly), I've weeded three quarters of our gravel drive, and planted about 50 narcissus.

And I've persuaded ds to do 300 words of a 500 word essay entitled Peace. 😊

ghostbusters · 26/10/2022 03:13

I was on fire yesterday. I hoovered the hall/porch and dining room. Got 2 loads of washing in (1 clothes then 1 load of towels in before bed). Cleaned the bathrooms. Put the bin out. Made curry 90% from scratch (thank you Patak's curry paste). Got to the shop to buy bread. And took the kids out to a Lego exhibition thing in the next town and out for lunch 😁😁 I don't think I've sat in the living room all day! And I did sweet FA on Monday.

SnoopLabbyLab · 26/10/2022 06:38

Not much, just the usual dishwasher/ laundry/ picking up cycle. I did manage to get some jobs done in the garden while DS entertained himself by washing my car. Our cleaner is coming today while we are out, for which I’m most grateful!

PeonyRose80 · 26/10/2022 07:04

Started a new job last week, so no time off for half term sadly. House is tidyish but needs some serious cleaning attention.
Do magic erasers take paint off walls?

Luckymumtotwo · 26/10/2022 07:13

Lots of laundry and still a lot to go. Have had the heating on to try dry it which is annoying as is it's not particularly cold.

I have also put away holiday bags and suitcase that have been in the hallway since our summer holiday!

Luckymumtotwo · 26/10/2022 07:16

Just been googling magic erasers. Definitely going to get one.

Smarshian · 26/10/2022 07:21

Yesterday I changed the sheets on all the beds and wiped all the kitchen surfaces. 2 loads of washing, dishwasher done. Emptied bins, put washing away.
felt like it was constant but house still needs work (mainly the floors which I will try to tackle today.

Don't bin food, make soup from tired veg!

Yep I really should think out the box a bit more when it comes to maximising food. I don't have a soup maker though.

I've hoovered everywhere and cleaned the bathroom. I also sorted out the shed today <proud>

Mighty fine effort for tackling the shed. No small task if the mess our shed is in is the going....DH usually does the garden stuff so I'll put it on his list, ha.

I had a new microwave installed by lovely AO people. As a result I cleaned the whole kitchen. Then I cleaned the whole house. If it makes me clean the car I am going to ring AO and ask them to have the fucker back.

Ha, nothing like having the looming visit of a guest to motivate to get the housework done. Maybe I should invite the mother in law around for coffee to put a rocket up my bum 😁

Yup, I've got those flash magic erasers. I certainly recommend them. They are brilliant. Our children are out of the phase of drawing on walls with crayons etc for which these magic erasers were fab for. These days they are sometimes only called upon if ds brushes against the walls on the stairwell in his muddy football kit.

You don't need a soup maker, just a handheld blender, costs £5 from Tesco, and a saucepan preferably with a lid.

Phillipa12 · 26/10/2022 08:53

Since Saturday I've decluttered and cleaned the whole house and garage, it really did need it. Now I can enjoy the rest of the HT with my boys, ice skating and Mcdonalds today!

Emily1583 · 26/10/2022 08:53

Right I'm gonna crack on again today with the housework whilst also keeping the kids entertained.

DH put the bins out this morning and I've heard the binmen come and go so I need to go put the bins back away but am still in pjs so need to shower first....

Got the breakfast dishes waiting for me to do, and the kitchen needs a once over again. I want to mop the kitchen floor in there today aswell.

Otherwise, someone give me a chore and tell me to do it for a bit of motivation 👍

How do you use the magic erasers? I wet and scrub sometimes they work sometimes they are absolutely useless. The children are little for such a short time I always place housework at the bottom of my todo list unless they are having friends round then I rush round setting the timer for 15 minutes so I don’t get too bogged down with every corner having to be neat/cleaned.

Frieya · 26/10/2022 08:55

15 minutes each room that should say

Yeah I don't even have a blender. I'm so pathetic in the kitchen, ha. It sounds a no brainer though for only five quid. I promise I'll seek one out next time I'm in Tesco 👍

Enjoy the ice skating. We don't have an ice rink here so I always look forward to the winter festival in town over Christmas which bring a ice rink to town. Not long now. I saw an article yesterday they have already closed the park in prep for the winter festival.

Yep I just dab them in a bit of water under the tap. Not so it's drenched but just a bit damp so it has moisture to do it's magic. I then just rub the sponge on the wall and it effortlessly does the job.

Deffo agree re the kids being little only once. I certainly don't devote my spare time to cleaning anyway. More of a catch up on cleaning type of person me.

Not midterm yet but I just do the basics - change bins, litter trays, fill/empty dishwasher, a load of laundry, and an occasional 5-10 minute tidy.

I really struggle to get things done with the dc around as they keep interrupting (for an adhd brain it’s the equivalent of pouring concrete on my feet and trying to run a marathon)

Floydthebarber · 26/10/2022 09:13

I booked a day off and managed to have a lie in until 8! (In dd2s bed because she woke up in the night). I am going to put a wash on, get some shopping later today and mostly just spend the day doing a bit of tidying and playing with dds.

Skethylita · 26/10/2022 09:19

So far I have

-completed 3 machines' worth of laundry
-emptied another box from moving a few months ago, which was full of stuff I never normally use, but which still didn't have a place - 2 more to go until fully done
-bearing that in mind, made up another bag to go to charity
-tidied the living room
-done all washing up
-cleaned all the mirrors in the house - with me and a teen girl we have quite a number!

There is still a lot to do, but I've felt quite productive, especially given the amount of professional work I've done, crap TV I've watched and computer games I've played (often while working...)

AllotmentTime · 26/10/2022 09:22

@Emily1583 Go and put some washing away, if you’re anything like me there’sa big clean pile somewhere.

I’m feeling pretty dizzy with covid and not moving much, so I’ll be quite happy to sit here and tell the rest of you what to do. Planning to do the same with my DC later and bribe them to hoover 😆

formulatingAresponse · 26/10/2022 09:28

I've been decluttering, mopped the floors, took some stuff to the tip. Normal cleaning kitchen and bathroom stuff.

I'm putting off hoovering the stairs and landing and taking clutter up to the loft.

I'm feeling a bit meh after having my covid booster jab yesterday.
Luckily I managed to get a report out of the way for work so I'm can just lounge around till I feel better.
