PIP form

Shauna2866 · 17/10/2022 10:24

Hi I’m asking for a friend she called pip up in suavest and requested a form to be sent out but she said she was on the phone for around 15 minutes explaining what’s wrong with her and giving bank details she then received the forms she was currently waiting to be seen by a psychiatrist but the waiting list is so long to be seen so she said she would get seen first and some help and then fill it in with there input she does have 14 years off history being on anti depressents beta blockers
and so much more but pip have said they are calling her next week for a assessment and she said why would they do that when I haven’t filled my forms in 🤷🏻‍♀️ Now she’s worried incase she doesn’t get it without her filling in the forms has this happened to anyone else ?? Just find it weird apparently sometimes they can just go off the phone call but really can’t see that
thank you x

Has she phoned them? You normally only have a month to fill in the form and send it back.

HouseBook · 17/10/2022 10:31

They are calling her for an assessment and they will ask all of the questions that were on the form. It's common for people to be so overwhelmed that they ask for the form but don't see it through so PIP usually contact for an assessment as they would had she filled the form. It would be extremely unusual for her to get awarded without assessment based on what you have told about her condition, it does happen but usually for much more extreme cases.

Shauna2866 · 17/10/2022 10:39

yeah she hasn’t even filled the form in just yet she was waiting to be seen first she wondering why they Would give her assessment over the phone when they haven’t received a form off her

I explained above, they often just go ahead with assessment if the forms are not returned. It's more common than you would think. The majority of PIP assessments are phone based just on so don't read too much into that part, it's how it's done.

Shauna2866 · 17/10/2022 10:44

She has so many problems and struggles everyday I was just saying what meds she’s been on there is more she has a list of them from the past 14 years
of the GP

@HouseBook okay thank you she just thought she had to fill in the forms I’ve told her she will just have to make sure she explains everything properly and see what happens after that x

You are supposed to fill in the forms, yes, but she hasn't and is still getting an assessment so nothing to worry about. PIP understand that not everyone can manage and it's not at all uncommon for claims to be progressed even without the forms being completed.

Redqueenheart · 17/10/2022 10:54

She can get someone to accompany her at the assessment so if you are concerned she won't be able to articulate all her issues as she is struggling then you could offer to go with her and help her put her case across.

Also be mindful that the companies doing the assessment on behalf of DWP often refuse the claim after assessment in the first instance.

You can then appeal and take it to the independent tribunal stage if needed where there is a good chance the tribunal will reverse the original decision.

Shauna2866 · 17/10/2022 10:58

@Redqueenheart it’s over the phone so I will see if she would like me to help her too she doesn’t cope well with speaking on the phone or face to face so maybe I’ll see if she wants any help do they contact her doctor after the phone call ???

You can Google a list of questions they may ask you. My friend had this happen, asked for a form but was unable to complete it, and so they did a phone assessment instead. I helped her to make notes on what she wanted to say. When we googled it said that they could ask you questions like ‘how many stairs do you have?’ And then when you go and check they will claim that as you’re able to get up quickly and climb the stairs to count them that you’re not ill enough for pip, ditto with asking you to get something from another room. Our interviewer didn’t do this but it’s just what we read could happen so make sure she’s prepared that they might try and catch her out.

MadamMaltesers · 17/10/2022 11:07

Same thing happened to me. I got the form sent out twice and both times did not get around to filling it out. Then I got an appointment for an assessment over the phone. They didn't listen to anything I was saying and just wanted me off the system since I applied a few time. Got absolutely no points. They are going to say they don't have evidence of anything so will see how it goes, but in reality they don't care and just want you to not bother applying again. I would advise you to fill out the form and ring DWP and ask for an extension.

HouseBook · 17/10/2022 11:08

@Shauna2866

They may or may not contact her doctor. She should gather as much evidence as she can though to send to them, usually it would be ain't with the form. The biggest thing you need for a PIP claim is evidence. They won't just belive she can't do things.

HouseBook · 17/10/2022 11:11

@MadamMaltesers

A phone assessment is normal whether you send the forms back or not, nobody is trying to get rid of you though. If you can evidence how your condition affects you and you score enough points during assessment you would be awarded.

HouseBook · 17/10/2022 11:12

Posted too soon, have you contacted anyone to help with your claim? The welfare rights at our local council are amazing, and CAB can help too I believe.

Mangolist · 17/10/2022 11:17

I would suggest calling your nearest CAB. You'll be able to get an appointment for Form Filling help. The first call is a general call about conditions etc. The form expands on this. The form has to be filled. If there isnt an appoinbtment at CAB until after the date the form should be back, they will extend it. I really recommend strongly she/you get help to fill in it.

HouseBook · 17/10/2022 11:19

@Mangolist

The form doesn't have to be filled. The DWP have proceeded to the next stage, assessment, without it.

Shauna2866 · 17/10/2022 11:21

Okay I’ll let her know she’s Best filling the form out thank you x

OP posts:
Shauna2866 · 17/10/2022 11:24

Will she have to send in evidence after her assessment too ??

OP posts:
HouseBook · 17/10/2022 11:35

Any evidence should be sent to them ASAP. I would suggest she calls them to see if they can change the assessment to give time to get the information to them. The more they have to go on the better.

HouseBook · 17/10/2022 11:36

Once the assessment is don't it goes to the decision maker so any evidence really needs to be in before

Shauna2866 · 17/10/2022 11:40

She only had like the list of prescriptions and she’s waiting on the doctor to write a note about everything but they said she has to pay for that to be done I’ll let her know

@Mangolist

The form doesn't have to be filled. The DWP have proceeded to the next stage, assessment, without it.

Sorry - I think I misread the orinial post. Please ignore!!

rose69 · 17/10/2022 12:08

I was able to speak for my partner during a phone assessment. Have a list of medications to hand. The type of questions asked on the from are asked at interview so it's about how disability affects daily life. Ie cooking, getting dressed etc.

Shauna2866 · 17/10/2022 12:25

@rose69 yeah she has a list off all medications she’s been prescribed and currently on at the moment but she hasn’t been diagnosed or seen anyone just yet she got referred months ago to a psychiatrist but still not heard anything back the waiting list is forever apparently
