I do.
THE TRUTH
The pay could be better but it’s not the worst in retail by far.
It’s non-stop from when you hit the floor. I do 04:30 - 12:30. My daily shift involves cleaning milk and juice and dairy shelves, filling all dairy, juices, desserts and FOTM (Food on the Move) put out any new tickets, then go to help colleague’s who haven’t finished their ‘fill’.
Then we scan all the gaps in our departments whilst running to either go on a till or help a colleague already on one; help customers with any queries, refunds, food orders, complaints….whilst keeping an eye out for our regular ‘people who take without paying’…there’s only 1 security guard at 8am for the entire 3 storey shop.
Go to break. Go to our warehouse/bay to see if we can find any stock for our ‘gaps’…straight to counts (required by HO…or ‘The Office’ as they’re known) which could be anything between 20 and 150 items per shift. The Office also requires TARGETTED counts so we scour the bay again and shop floor with constant interruptions from colleagues and customers alike so this can take a while. Then HOME TIME
We are horribly short staffed sometimes 4 people for the first 3hrs of opening…run from pillar to post. We’re dealing with more and more complaints as the company appears to want everyone pushed towards self service….I can’t and won’t turn down anyone who has a trolley, is elderly or just doesn’t want to use them and will always open a belted till.
Most customers are lovely…some are truly vile. My colleagues are a mixed bunch
The expectations from management are high and there’s never enough time in the day. WE are knackered BUT most days are good.
