Anyone else get confused with all the acronyms being used on here? (I guess forums in general?)

You don't have to use the acronyms if you don't want to.

KoalaPineapple · 14/10/2022 08:26

Yes is there a guide somewhere haha!! Not a clue on like 75% of them.

It's more about trying to understand what they mean lol

Glad I'm not alone 😂
I just don't want to interpret one in the wrong way and end up offending someone 🤦‍♂️

What’s TLDR?

What’s TLDR?

Too long didn't read. Used by people too ignorant to read the thread but too self-important to keep their irrelevant opinions to themselves

Fatbabyfeet · 14/10/2022 08:33

Riiiight. I’d never have got that one on my one, I’ve been wracking my brains! Thanks.

FinallyHere · 14/10/2022 08:45

OP original poster, who started the thread

DS Dear Son

DD Dear Daughter

DP Dear Partner as opposed to DH Dear Husband

OLD on line dating

AmberGer · 14/10/2022 08:52

DS could also mean dear sister

NightmareSlashDelightful · 14/10/2022 08:52

Others you might see

ODFOD — oh do fuck off, dear
GP — could be grandparent or the doctor’s surgery depending on context
BF — could be boyfriend, best friend or breastfeeding depending on context
FWR — feminism and women’s rights (what the board on here used to be called, many people still just shorthand it as FWR)
SS — social services (unless you’re talking really specifically about the Second World War)
HTH — hope this helps or happy to help. Usually used passive-aggressively
FTFY — fixed that for you

Tl:dr is also used when a poster writes a long post, but summarises it as well and the summary lines are marked "Tl:dr-"
Meaning, if my post is too long read this part for the bare bones of it, the main part has the extra info.

FinallyHere · 14/10/2022 09:12

I googled "TSSDNCOP" and found a link to another acronym thread on MN

You get used to it. It's part of belonging to a community. Similar to starting a new job or moving to a new region, there's a new parlance to adopt.
