Things to remind me of London? I'm homesick

And I only live down in Cornwall! But visiting frequently takes a lot of time and money.

DH and I really miss London, we wish we could move back but we know we've priced ourselves out and probably can't afford to move back

What small things could I do to remind me of London? We worked in Bishopsgate.

Truro isn't quite the same 😂

Don't get me wrong, Cornwall is beautiful and the Cornish people are amazingly kind. (I am actually Cornish!) But I miss the buzz and excitement of life in the SE.

We moved back here to care for elderly parents who have now passed away. We improved their end of life by being here and I have no regrets.

Anyway, things that remind me of London? Apart from poking myself in the eye with an umbrella on a busy street? 😂

Primrose Hill sunsets

@Brieeeeeeeee that's where we used to go for a valentines day walk 😍

My DM used to make my DF drive her back at weekends. She even liked the smell of the pollution!

I'd suggest Bristol, a lot of internet shopping, and following the big museums content on Youtube.

AlexCabot · 13/10/2022 20:04

Both of the Paddington films.

You should get yourself to Waterloo 😁

Put soot in each nostril and in your eyes. As a bumpkin that is my overarching experience of a day in London.

ImissyouBR1 · 13/10/2022 20:06

Yes to Paddington films! Thank you!! What other films could I watch?

Anna I purposely use dusty escalators and take a deeeep breath for the London underground smell 😳

So this weekend I'll be watching Paddington, Mary Poppins and playing Monopoly. While listening out for police sirens....

Watch the opening credits of The Apprentice on repeat.

Get onto Google Street View and travel across the bridges and up Canonbie Road in London SE23 (for the panoramic view).

I don't know what else you can do? Follow a You Tuber who covers London inch by inch.

I feel for you OP.

corlan · 13/10/2022 20:13

Listen to Radio London- particularly Robert Elms at the weekend.

PuttingDownRoots · 13/10/2022 20:13

Hey a takeaway coffee and it in a busy carpark to simulate the low oxygen alfresco dining? 😁

Walk every where at 20 miles an hour

Get in a small lift. Invite 20 other people with you.stick your nose into one of their armpits.

Pumperthepumper · 13/10/2022 20:25

Get some of your friends to walk up behind you really quickly then bark at you to fucking move when you don’t immediately jump out of the way.

I love London though, could you find some independent bookshops for a wander in? A new café somewhere?

Fieldfly · 13/10/2022 20:29

I was also going to suggest soot in your nose and eyes 🤣. Could you play the distant sounds of sirens ?

Sluj · 13/10/2022 20:29

The Bridget Jones films are very London

TheYearOfSmallThings · 13/10/2022 20:32

Next time a local parade is on go up the front, then fight your way through the middle of it from front to back, and pretend you're walking down Bishopsgate at 8:30am.

HundredMilesAnHour · 13/10/2022 20:33

Get some coffee delivered from Nude Espresso and pretend you're sitting on Hanbury Street while drinking it.

GiantKitten · 13/10/2022 20:35

There are cushions with tube upholstery 😕

Some good London tours by 'Opencity' on Youtube. Here's a bike tour of the City.

and one of Docklands

ImissyouBR1 · 13/10/2022 20:40

These suggestions are so funny and making me feel warm and fuzzy!

@Fieldfly this is why I bought a house near hospital. For the sirens 😂

I do walk quite fast! I'm struggling to switch off and slow down. Eeek

Love the underground cushions. Genuinely

Have a wander up North Quay in Hayle and you will soon forget you are in Cornwall 😉
