Things to remind me of London? I'm homesick

And I only live down in Cornwall! But visiting frequently takes a lot of time and money.

DH and I really miss London, we wish we could move back but we know we've priced ourselves out and probably can't afford to move back

What small things could I do to remind me of London? We worked in Bishopsgate.

Truro isn't quite the same 😂

Don't get me wrong, Cornwall is beautiful and the Cornish people are amazingly kind. (I am actually Cornish!) But I miss the buzz and excitement of life in the SE.

We moved back here to care for elderly parents who have now passed away. We improved their end of life by being here and I have no regrets.

Anyway, things that remind me of London? Apart from poking myself in the eye with an umbrella on a busy street? 😂

The grime and litter?

The grime and litter?

Plenty of grime and litter in Cornwall, just more like pasty wrappers and cigarettes.

I'm sure you could find some rude tourists in Cornwall to remind you of London 😂

Comedycook · 13/10/2022 20:47

Can you find a sandwich bar where you live? Buy a coffee and a sandwich...give the person serving you £15 regardless of what it actually costs and walk away.

Here you go. This was round the corner from me in east London.

Snake eating a pigeon.

Listen to a London centric podcast
Clara Amfo did one called This City which is a good listen.

26twentysix · 13/10/2022 20:53

Move all your belongings into your dining room incl a fridge and microwave and live there: enjoy city life in your studio flat that costs as much as your whole house!

RosesAndHellebores · 13/10/2022 20:54

Can you not just take many summer trips to Fowey and Padstow where SW London will greet you on your own doorstep?

Truro is at least a County Town/City and it has a cathedral and is very very nice and has reasonable shops

VeryQuaintIrene · 13/10/2022 20:55

Another Londoner in exile here (across the pond). There's loads of shows con Britbox that have a London setting and I watch them all.

ImissyouBR1 · 13/10/2022 20:55

@Comedycook £8 for a bacon bap here and £3 for a coffee. Not far off! 😂

@Usernamenotavailabletryanother omg that's so funny

Thank you @AddictedtoStarmix that sounds good! I want starmix now too.

Oh I feel for you OP I consider London "home" I only live on the Hertfordshire/Greater London borders but I have to escape into central London regularly to feel like I am alive.
I appreciate the countryside and love to holiday in Scotland, but my favourite place for a holiday is New York.

Comedycook · 13/10/2022 20:58

Did you live in br1 postcode before then? I'm just down the road from there!

Kamia · 13/10/2022 21:01

When I feel homesick I go on Google maps street view and visit the old places I used to go to. It's a weird sad thing to do.

ImissyouBR1 · 13/10/2022 21:08

Yeah I did @Comedycook Bromley North!

@HazelBite I've never been to NYC but I'd love to go!!

I love the countryside but there's something about the city that I find so exciting. I'm very introverted and quiet but just love it!

The jobs alone are just SO exciting. The opportunity. The possibility. Just makes me excited to be alive 😳 I don't get that feeling here. Not even a little bit.

Take a trip to an Exeter coffee shop on a Tuesday afternoon and soak in the atmosphere of yoga discussions, baby ballet, how it's so hard living in a 7 bedroom place after selling one's Pied a Terre in SW London for a mere 1.15 mil and the fuel bills are really becoming a worry and did you see those youths outside the station last week and those terrible fast food shops, it's getting to be just like Tooting Broadway now and somebody looked a bit shifty around the Evoque last night...

You'll soon remember why it was so much better once you crossed the Tamar.

Camdenish · 13/10/2022 21:37

Would you like a round of Mornington Crescent? We could play Avant West Coast rules just to ease you back in. Maybe no reverses? I mean what with a newish Prime Minister and all. I’ll start.

Grange Hill

@ImissyouBR1

Love the underground cushions. Genuinely

oh good, I’m glad you do - my 😕
was intended to be a 🙂 but I touched the wrong one!

DS2 has recently moved out of London after 3 very happy years in a Brixton bedsit and he bought a moquette cushion to remind him. He misses it too…

I'm half asleep but just here to quickly say thank you @corlan I loved those One City bike tours.

Architecture is my passion and I know many of those buildings from working in architecture in London!

I felt all warm and fuzzy and at home again x
