My town has a reputation for being unfriendly / snooty and I’m interested to see if it pops up here šŸ‘€

Personally, I find Cardiff and Birmingham to friendly and upbeat cities.

So does mine! Glasgow and Newcastle both have friendly reputations which have been borne out when I've visited.

I think it’s useful when deciding where to go for a day trip. I wouldn’t say that London is unfriendly but it’s quite intimidating.

Bath is snooty and I didn't like the rugger buggers who made me feel intimidate.

Edinburgh was very friendly, if a tad reserved. I loved it there.

Stondon, Bedfordshire. Suffocatingly posh.

forgiveormakehimpay · 13/10/2022 22:11

Sorry I meant Stotfold!

forgiveormakehimpay · 13/10/2022 22:11

Billericay, Brentwood, Basildon. Find people there a very odd bunch - so mean!

Crumpleton · 13/10/2022 22:15

Stopped off at Stroud on route to somewhere once and people there seemed so rude.

Did the Christmas markets in Birmingham a few years ago and everyone we spoke to or asked for directions from were lovely.

I found Cardiff awful
Never had a problem in Leeds

PurplRainDancer · 13/10/2022 22:26

Harrogate unfriendly

mondaytosunday · 13/10/2022 22:27

You'll get as many opinions as people. For example: I love London, find it very friendly and full of neighbourly support.
Bath was a delight.
Glasgow stank of cigarettes (only passed through to be fair).
Edinburgh ok, same old things with some nice buildings.
My daughter HATED Brighton.
My friend loves St Leonards/Hastings - I can't see the attraction.

Lol @Crumpleton I used to live in an incredibly unfriendly village near Stroud! Was a shame as its really pretty around there.

Also found the East Midlands unfriendly where I went to uni.

Friendliest places ive been/lived are Newcastle and Manchester.

I'm from near Glasgow so am used to how sociable strangers can be. At the weekend there I stayed in Newcastle and found folk of a similar ilk.
It's nice to be nice!

VampiresWife · 13/10/2022 22:34

Edinburgh and Manchester, friendliest

Newcastle and Bedford, least friendly

Fatbabyfeet · 13/10/2022 22:35

Bourton-On-The-Water. In fact a large proportion of the Cotswolds in general. I get along with everybody but the undercurrent of snootiness really got to me after a few days. Guess they’re just sick of tourists, I get that. Money definitely doesn’t buy manners tho!

People tend to be very friendly in B’ham and the Black Country IMO.

Hbh17 · 13/10/2022 22:38

I'm not sure I want a town or city to be "friendly" if that means striking up random conversations on the bus, neighbours expecting you to be their friends or people knowing your business. I like cities because you can generally be self-contained and anonymous.

LondonWolf · 13/10/2022 22:46

I was happily surprised at how chatty, friendly and willing to stop and chat people were when I was in Liverpool. They all seemed really upbeat and comfortable in their own skin.

Thisbastardcomputer · 13/10/2022 22:48

Newcastle and the north east in general, lovely friendly people

hellcatspangle · 13/10/2022 22:50

I spend my working day speaking to members of the public from all over the UK. I can categorically state that Solihull wins the prize for the most stuck up, unfriendly place in the country. No contest.

hellcatspangle · 13/10/2022 22:52

Wigan is the friendliest place I've ever visited!

Wigan is the friendliest place I've ever visited!

It really is! I work there and folk are so warm and down-to-earth.

maddy68 · 13/10/2022 23:02

Most friendly.
Liverpool
Manchester
Edinburgh
Glasgow

Least friendly London

bruce43mydog · 13/10/2022 23:06

Most friendly Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham.

AdoptedBumpkin · 13/10/2022 23:08

As cities go, I find Sheffield pretty friendly, probably more than Manchester. Buxton also has a friendly reputation, and I've found it a pretty relaxed place to visit.

Have to confess I don't find Lincolnshire in general has a friendly vibe.
