So many of them seem to go off the rails in one way or another. Maybe there should be a rule about how long a person can be an MP for.

"Exc: No10 lobbying up to 8 MPs nominated for peerages in Boris Johnson’s upcoming resignation honours list to defer them to 2024 to spare Truss by-election humiliation

But plan is constitutionally unprecedented and risks showdown with King, experts warn"

What? Poor Mr Burns booted out without any attempt to change the rules on his behalf? That's very worrying someone in the Party must have found a conscience. Who on earth might it be? No visible signs of it to date.

Politicians and sleaze (and worse ) for some reason this particular profession has always attracted the worst type of person over the years.
I think it's the power trip they go on. They start to feel they are invincible somehow ?

I think it's culturally engrained in many. Living away from home often, working long and anti social hours. Plus a huge ego boost from being elected in the first place as well as the power. Probably to try to become an MP in the first place you're going to be not averse to risk taking to stick your head above the parapet.

verdantverdure · 08/10/2022 14:10

I have read that it is rumoured that Tories are plotting to install Rishi Sunak as a caretaker PM.

I don't think installing Rishi Sunak as a caretaker PM will help much.

The problem is that the Conservative ideology doesn't work.

In fact, deregulation, selling off public assets to private commerce, prioritising profit over investing in infrastructure, lower tax for the richest, and letting markets decide things are the reason we're in the mess we're in.

Hola from Seville. Loving the thread title Duncin.

the80sweregreat · 08/10/2022 15:09

I'm a minion at work and old now and I've watched a few people climb the greasy poles and they really change. The lack of empathy is rife too.
Life is competitive and it's definitely getting worse.

I wish. Mine is in his THIRTIETH year of uselessness.
Rumour has it he might retire and they'll shoehorn Johnson in as it's such a safe seat.
Oh hell....

the80sweregreat · 08/10/2022 17:15

Mines been there forever , 21 years
He only replies on the proper HoC stationery, but he was helpful once when we had a query
His conservative , so he'll never get my vote
The lib Dems are popular here , but I don't think he'll lose his seat next GE

This poll is pretty brutal -

🚨 Another record-breaking @OpiniumResearch poll for the @ObserverUK 🚨

Liz Truss’s personal approval rating of -47 is the worst ever recorded for a PM by the company.

A worse rating than Johnson during partygate & May in the weeks before her resignation.

There's more... 🧵

the80sweregreat · 08/10/2022 17:43

Who do they ask though ?.. genuine question
I've never been asked any of these surveys ever !!
Is it all done on line?

tobee · 08/10/2022 18:04

You sign up. YouGov and YouGov Chat for eg

I nearly wrote that as YouGove. Bet that's an interesting polling organisation Grin

the80sweregreat · 08/10/2022 18:06

Thanks
You Gove! Lol
His probably voted her down too! 😂

tobee · 08/10/2022 18:06

It's not very good if it's self selecting though is it?

the80sweregreat · 08/10/2022 18:07

No
Years ago people would ring you up I think !

tobee · 08/10/2022 18:09

I once had a bloke come to my house and ask me loads about politics for a survey. It went on for hours and at the end he smiled and said it was very nice to meet me and an interesting conversation but that he totally disagreed with everything I said! Confused Not very professional!!

the80sweregreat · 08/10/2022 18:14

I might sign up for it

Yes, I had this, it must have been about 20 years ago. They asked what I thought of Charles and Camilla, whether it would be ok for them to get married, that sort of thing. Maybe they just wanted my blessing, because it was only a couple of years later that they tied the knot Grin

the80sweregreat · 08/10/2022 18:41

I give my blessing to marry Camilla !
I love this ! Lol

A thread on Truss's ratings.

Basically rock bottom

Conor Burns is rumoured to be on Johnson's peerage list...

Conor Burns, who is a close friend of Boris Johnson and defended him over the partygate scandal, is among a handful of loyalist MPs expected to be honoured by the former PM

The Times long read is quite interesting.
Schapps on manoeuvres - apparently talking to Sunak & Johnson about making a come back.
Johnson will need a safe seat to move to (this seems to be referred to as a chicken run which amused me).
Johnson reported as having some dirt on Truss which would end her leadership.
Kwarteng telling MPs he thinks Truss's chances of survival are 40-60%! He's denied saying this.
Discord between so many sections of the party I can't be bothered to list them!

"The big read is up and it ain’t pretty: plots, duplicity and character assassination (and that’s just the first dozen paragraphs)"

Saucery · 08/10/2022 19:44

Got a bad feeling about my area now - very solidly Tory for decades, boundaries were redrawn to make it even more so, MP is a time server who I totally see stepping aside for Johnson.
