Got a bad feeling about my area now - very solidly Tory for decades, boundaries were redrawn to make it even more so, MP is a time server who I totally see stepping aside for Johnson.

It might be one of us then!

Mine is on the 1922 committee which might stop him stepping aside. But 30 years is too long, only tactical voting would erode his 25,000 majority

the80sweregreat · 08/10/2022 20:26

I'd get on board with a Shapps take over

Notonthestairs · 08/10/2022 20:28

The article indicates he's got a couple of options -

One idea floated to the former PM is he could establish a new power base by leaving his Uxbridge constituency and replacing Nadine Dorriess_ as MP for Mid Bedfordshire, who is due to get a peerage in Johnson’s resignation honours list. Some say Johnson thinks it is too soon to return and he needs to make more money before another tilt at the top.
But a former adviser said there was no chance of him staying in west London where Johnson is defending a majority of just 7,210. “He won’t want to lose, it’s no good for the brand. His options are take the chicken run [to another seat], or just run. He can leave and make money and would have no trouble getting a seat if he wants to come back later.

Etonian lala land then.

Everyone has had enough of this bollocks now.

A comprehensive list of all the Sleaze Tory MPs

itsgettingweird · 08/10/2022 20:47

I think I'm lucky that we won't have a Johnson seat here.

Stronghold Tory but I doubt Braverman will step aside for anyone!

Strikes me it is an incomplete list, it doesn't include the lemon who is the Honourable Member for Riyadh and Moscow for instance.

I just showed dd that list, pointing out our MP . She just rolled her eyes and said "no surprise there then".
She's right.

Ahhh yes the MP who claimed just short of £20,000 for Polish lessons, despite being Polish and fluent in the language

Worthy to go on The List

mibbelucieachwell · 08/10/2022 23:27

My MP is an SNP member. So there's no point contacting her about anything to do with British politics.

tobee · 09/10/2022 00:41

I have to say I wish I had £1 for every time I've heard or read "supply side" in the last few weeks Confused

I am constantly surprised by what some people will vote for, but I don’t know that it’s such a safe bet to parachute the Big Dog back in. It can’t last. He’s only got to make one further fuck up back in office- which is his well documented habit and would happen soon- then his whole sleazy record will be dug up again AND the judgement of MPs questioned to let him back in. Which should Of course be preventative against this idea ever getting off the ground in the first place.. but, going back to my first point

L1ttledrummergirl · 09/10/2022 09:30

I think the judgement of the tory MPs is already being questioned, and found very lacking.
Not only did they keep Johnson in for far too long but they thought Sunak and Truss were the best two candidates for leader to put to the rest of the party.

I think the collective lack of judgement has gone beyond breaking point for the country.

Cornettoninja · 09/10/2022 09:39

I can well believe there is a plan to get BJ back on top but I think it’s badly misjudged. There’s far too much water under the bridge and every MP is being scrutinised that is being paid attention to in a way that it wasn’t pre-partygate. I think if Truss had been used as a maintenance PM and made less waves then it possibly could have been an option but all they’ve done is highlight every weakness in all their members.

I think (hope maybe?) that the other party’s have understood this. There’s no room for major personal failings at the moment and there won’t be again without a sustained period with major fuck ups and sleaze.

the80sweregreat · 09/10/2022 10:01

I liked the look of Nadine Dorries garden in the cotswolds on bbc news.
I do agree that we don't need so much money wasted on public information films or literature about energy bills and I so rarely agree with any conservative policies.
The radio promote Martin Lewis who isn't political , newspapers run lots of information and tips , tv such as this morning etc , things on the internet , we all know that cutting usage reduces bills, they don't need to waste any more money after the last few weeks
Awaiting a flaming

Piggywaspushed · 09/10/2022 10:42

Oh would that be her garden in The Cotswolds, 100+ miles from her constituency?!

Notonthestairs · 09/10/2022 10:46

I don't think providing more information is a bad thing. I certainly don't think they should block an information campaign on ideological grounds or to save our Prime Minister's blushes.

Martin Lewis shouldn't replace the Government (or maybe he should?!)

There is a good article about the vulnerabilities in our energy supply in the Times -

"But on a very cold day, the gap between supply and demand gets alarmingly small. Worse, that supply column assumes we will be getting gas from Norway (which, in turn, assumes Putin won’t bomb that pipeline too); that tanker after tanker of LNG will be unloading in our ports; that our three big LNG facilities will be working flat out; that the Dutch will send us gas from their fields rather than pipe it to Germany; and that we will still have reserves available. Those last two assumptions in particular are distinctly shaky. But if any one of those things doesn’t happen, demand will exceed supply."

I actually agree with you. (Dons flame proof suit with you!).

What I would like though is honesty that it's a possibility - which doesn't need to go alongside £15m of propaganda.

the80sweregreat · 09/10/2022 10:52

Yes, piggy ! Of course
My MP lives close to us , unfortunately.
My Dh is a conservative and he winds me up so much! His parents were working class poor ones too , the most amazing types really , but not unusual in the areas we both come from originally. He thinks my more socialist views are madness , we agree to disagree.
No, they could just come out and say ' cut back a bit ' on energy , explain the cap and do it that way. With SM now public information films are not needed as much , covid was different of course.

Piggywaspushed · 09/10/2022 10:59

I suspect Martin Lewis is on Truss's hit list though along with the RSPB.

the80sweregreat · 09/10/2022 11:05

I bet the new PM has a long list.

Cornettoninja · 09/10/2022 11:21

@the80sweregreat i understand where you’re coming from but I disagree. The proposed budget (£15m I believe) for a public information campaign is dwarfed by what this cabinet has cost us as a country.(which puts me on the same side as JRM who originally signed off on it and makes me uncomfortable!).

PI films may be telling a large proportion of people information they already know but a government backed campaign adds credence to the situation itself too. This is exactly the kind of situation I believe a government is here to manage - a situation where they have a responsibility to ensure that the general public are aware of the seriousness of situation for which they have a unique overall perspective of because they draw on many sources.

As it is, the block on the JRM campaign just looks like an exercise in diverting attention away from something that could draw criticism.

Cornettoninja · 09/10/2022 11:23

I would presume that would be part of a campaign budget. I don’t think public information is solely distributed through traditional adverts and films now is it?

I was trying to find a source but I have read that there’s funding for a public information campaign in the pipeline to promote the new cabinets polices/plan.

Cornettoninja · 09/10/2022 11:24

Just as an additional thought - an energy campaign also sits well alongside environmental issues and seeking to change overall habits.
