My dd is Labour.
My ds is Labour and was a member (maybe still is?) to keep them moderate rather than pro Corbyn type of member. I find it weird that ds is probably more moderate than me because generally people quite left when young and go more right wing. But he's a very rational chap for a youngster and is a politics graduate and much better read than me.

All my family are Labour even though live in Tory area. My pil were very much Tory though. My mil a bit shocked when she found out I was Labour as if it's "not a nice thing". Loads of Tories are like that!

Dh was floating voter labour/sdp/lib but now much more left.

That is so interesting!
Good on your son. I would say studying politics gave him more insight than we have, but judging by the fact that our overlords overwhelmingly study PPE at Oxford, I don't believe this to be true

NEW: An MRP poll by Opinium for the Trades Union Congress projects a "1997-style landslide for Labour".

10 current Cabinet ministers would lose their seats (inc Jeremy Hunt, Jacob Rees-Mogg and Therese Coffey) as well as former PM Boris Johnson.

Don't start me on my DH. That's a whole other story!

I married mine at 25 and was not really interested in politics. These days I couldn't be with someone who's politics don't align with mine because similar morals are first on my list for a life partner. What's your reason? 😁

Why isn't it more damning, FFS. It's not mathematically possible that the 1% are so dominant!

I don't speak about politics at work, but from the conversations I've seen at work a lot of people are oblivious to what is going on

I think everyone of us should try to speak to people. If we can convert even one person to vote tactically it has got to make a difference. It is so important. Our kids' futures are at stake

Notonthestairs · 16/10/2022 22:04

"NEW: Labour have demanded that Liz Truss come to parliament tomorrow to answer questions from MPs on the current economic / political crisis.

Keir Starmer - “The Prime Minister says she is in charge but the evidence this weekend suggests she is in office but not in power.”

Of course she should answer questions. But I doubt they want her to be seen much in public tomorrow and certainly not talking.

tobee · 16/10/2022 22:08

Wow! Just been imagining the dance I'd do if JRM lost his seat!! Got a carpet burn on my leg from celebrating when Portillo lost his seat in 1997. He almost seems like a nice bloke these days!!! 😛

the80sweregreat · 16/10/2022 22:12

I had a blood test on the day it was clear Boris Johnson was getting the shove
I mentioned something to the lady doing my test. She shrugged and said ' oh, I dunno , didn't he just have a baby or something? Maybe it's sent him over the edge '
I laughed and said he had numerous children!
She looked bemused and declared that she didn't take any interest in politics.
Maybe I take too much interest!

This is what I mean

Tbh I don't want Labour to have to clean this up so I'm not that bothered if we have to continue to have a Tory government. It's what the country actually deserves

Blossomtoes · 16/10/2022 22:22

I mind a lot. I’ve probably got another 20 years if I’m lucky. I don’t want to spend them under a Tory government.

I have sympathy with this view.

But the longer we have instability the longer the existing problems have to ferment. And heaven knows what else they'll produce from Pandoras Box (Braverman for Chancellor?)

Blossomtoes · 16/10/2022 22:25

Braverman for Chancellor?

No, please no! Or even worse Badenoch as PM. 😳

I've got children who will suffer this but I'm also speaking as someone who has the luxury of plotting to leave in a few years. So yes I'm ambivalent. My children are not buying into what I'm saying so it's getting to the point where I need to leave them to learn on their own. They don't want to listen to mum.

I think that's the same one someone posted upthread. Wonderful, isn't it? 😁😊

GreenLunchBox · 16/10/2022 22:39

How are you guys feeling about this, though? I'm abivalent. It's a shitshow that would be impossible for even the most brilliant minds.

GreenLunchBox · 16/10/2022 22:42

I guess Labour can't turn it down but they need to be outspoken about how much of a shitshow the Conservatives have left, and that it will take decades to remedy. FFS

Otherwise let the conservatives at it

GreenLunchBox · 16/10/2022 22:43

In fact, the more I think about it the more I think we should just let the Tories have at it

Notonthestairs · 16/10/2022 22:51

Business leaders are starting to speak up which is pretty extraordinary.

John Allan - Tescos boss
Stuart Rose - ex M&S
Dame Alison Carnwath -Land Securities/Evercore)
Guy Hands - Terra Firma

Sorry to have repeated a pp. Must pay more attention!

Do you want to see the country completely destroyed @GreenLunchBox? Because I don’t, I’ve got to see out my life here. While Starmer’s got a mountain to climb if/when he wins, at least there will be some grown ups in charge. This is like being governed by toddlers.

I’m as delighted to see business leaders backing Labour as Truss must be horrified.

Me too, but none of them have actually condemned the current leadership. And none of them have said 'vote labour'.

L1ttledrummergirl · 16/10/2022 23:21

I'm not surprised business owners are backing Labour. As part of my job I speak to people at board level from industries right across the country. There is little support for the tories in my experience.

I think saying there’s only one team on the pitch is pretty clear.

tobee · 17/10/2022 02:17

I think Liz Truss should hold another news conference tomorrow morning. She can unilaterally call a General Election. And then take no questions at all. Then the Tories/Jeremy Hunt/the cabinet/Graham Brady will have to spend the next hours frantically dealing with the aftermath! Come on PM what have you got to lose?
