Why does Catherine always have a plaster on? Is she more accident prone than the rest of us!

@Ship It’s dermatilomania. Trich is when you pull your hair

You are right. I get them mixed up because I've got a dermatilomania and trichotillomania habit breaking workbook which is full of advice that does not work!

Hoolihan · 05/10/2022 21:26

Weird, not noticed before but who has that many random injuries? Can't say I remember ever wearing a plaster on my hands and I have two kids, two cats and a garden to look after. I reckon a picky skin thing.

I've always assumed she has an eating disorder, she sooooo thin.

FleeUpFreeTime · 05/10/2022 21:27

Grating the cheese for the kids packed lunches maybe

Lessofallthisunpleasantness · 05/10/2022 21:27

I have an abrasion near there caused by my hand held dyson which to be honest is a bit too heavy and always rubs so I sometimes put a plaster on to protect it. I expect it's that for her too......

Jebatronic · 05/10/2022 21:27

Potato peeler always gets me there - perhaps it’s spuds

Toomuchtrouble4me · 05/10/2022 21:28

It’s the damn thumb screws

antelopevalley · 05/10/2022 21:29

It is not in one place. She has plasters in different parts of her hand at different times. The Palace have been asked by journalists about it and they refuse to day anything.

pawkins · 05/10/2022 21:29

She probably picks the skin near her nails. I do this and often wear plasters when they get particularly sore. She probably wears them when she knows she will be photographed.

Norriscolesbag · 05/10/2022 21:29

Someone else has mentioned a good reason why here. Unfortunately I think they might be right :(

antelopevalley · 05/10/2022 21:30

@Norriscolesbag what reason?

IcedPurple · 05/10/2022 21:30

"The Palace" should be responding to enquiries about plaster's on a woman's hand?

Which 'journalists' have asked about this, specifically?

LilyMumsnet · 05/10/2022 21:31

Hi folks

We don't think it's on to speculate about whether or not someone has an eating disorder - please do bear this in mind when posting!

Mumsnut · 05/10/2022 21:33

Eczema?

BrutusMcDogface · 05/10/2022 21:33

Wow. Whether she’s in the public eye or not, why on earth is it ok to gossip about her potential eating disorder/skin condition? FFS.

antelopevalley · 05/10/2022 21:33

@IcedPurple Articles in places like Cosmopolitan and other magazines say that. The kind that has articles about what dress she is wearing or jewels.

pastabest · 05/10/2022 21:34

"places like Cosmopolitan and other magazines" is pretty vague.

I was wondering who exactly these 'journalists' are who ask 'the palace' about the plasters on Kate's hand? That was quite a specific claim.

catandcoffee · 05/10/2022 21:36

Plasters are due to being clumsy.

Knock hand whilst walking past the door handle.
Grating cheese and hand.
Accidently scratching yourself.
Knocking hand when reaching for something.

If you're clumsy, your clumsy, I speak from experience (with plastered hands )

Pretty shitty of people to speculate about things like that, public eye or not.

JaneJeffer · 05/10/2022 21:39

I have lost count of the number of times I've cut my thumb on this sticky up thing on my dryer. So I reckon Kate has got the same one. While I was talking the photo I noticed it looked very surprised to be photographed.

@BrutusMcDogface None of us know why she so often has plasters. But since her whole point as a Princess seems to be to turn up and look good, then of course this will be noticed. These articles are in the type of publications that have an article about when the last time Kate wore a dress, and about her shoes and hair. The focus is on how she looks, so it is natural to wonder why.
I don't know why the palace does not say she is a keen gardener or something.

I already posted a link to an article in Cosmopolitan that said that. What they said was vague. This isn't investigative journalist level of writing you know.

"When questioned about the plasters previously Buckingham Palace insisted: “We have no comment on the plaster.”"

They all seem to be referencing the same 'asking' over 5 years ago, if that even happened.

Does any 'journalist' actually expect 'the palace' to comment on small plasters on a woman's hand?

I do this, my thumbs most of all.

antelopevalley · 05/10/2022 21:59

It is not serious journalism. And they will not expect an answer. It's just so they can say they asked and still do not know.
There is always speculation about gardening, cooking or clumsiness.
