I really struggle to keep my feet warm over winter, what do I need?!

This thread is a little old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for warm, comfy slippers, we’ve recently updated our best women’s slippers page with lots of great options, as worn and loved by real Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

Ugg boots or similar.

rbe78 · 03/10/2022 09:13

Anything made of genuine sheepskin. Uggs or similar - but not the knock-off ones cheap ones, they'll be made out of synthetic materials and nowhere near as warm.

CMOTDibbler · 03/10/2022 09:14

Don't buy slippers, buy a pair of snow boots/ sheepskin like boots and keep them for just in the house. Loads warmer than slippers, and better support for your feet

Oh thanks, this is helpful. Any recommendations for any that are reasonably priced?

ugg boots are great, and no socks!

The fact they cover your ankles makes a big difference

BruceAndNosh · 03/10/2022 09:32

You lose loads of heat from your ankles as the blood vessels are very close to the surface (just like wrists)
Keeping those areas warm makes a big difference. Sheepskin slipper boots are wonderful

Bluevelvetsofa · 03/10/2022 09:44

Nordic socks! They kept my chilly feet warm last year.

CollyWibbleWobbles · 03/10/2022 09:44

I buy mine from Just Sheepskin , never had a problem and they're a British company too so no extra costs or delay in posting

Wombat27A · 03/10/2022 09:48

Westmorland Sheepskins have a wide range of sheepskin slippers & boots. Excellent company.

Allbirds are very warm too. None of these options are cheap but I tried synthetic ones & I itch or sweat.

MotherWol · 03/10/2022 09:51

I got some Emu boots (Ugg type) off ebay, and they're brilliant. Nice and warm, but the sheepskin stops your feet getting sweaty, and the thick sole means you don't feel the cold coming up from the floor if you have floorboards/tile.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/10/2022 09:54

House boots from Celtic Sheepskin. Ugg type/shape, but made in Cornwall, not China.
I live in mine indoors in winter. Current pair are at least 5 years old, still going strong, and they’re machine washable, too.

eurochick · 03/10/2022 10:03

Another vote for Celtic and Co house boots. If mine gave up today I would rebuy the same ones immediately. Very comfy and incredibly warm.

Freedomfromguilt · 03/10/2022 10:27

Thinking of getting these.

Sorry about the ugly link

clowerina · 03/10/2022 10:33

i find those fluffy slipper boots really good from primark or anywhere really. Super cheap and combined with woolly socks you can't go wrong. This is obv the budget option!

LucyLatimer · 03/10/2022 10:33

Also love Celtic house boots. I can never justify buying another pair but they are the warmest and last a good few years

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/10/2022 10:36

I was going to recommend my Celtic & Co sheepskin house boots -10 years old and going strong. Warm anyway, even Warner with wool socks!

But when googling for a link, I've found that similar from House of Bruar are currently half price here

ThistleSifter · 03/10/2022 10:43

I just bought some Aus Wooli sheepskin Ugg-esque boots and they’re very warm. Huge range on here:

I already own their sheepskin moccasin slippers from last year and I have to say, they’re even warmer and cosier than the ones just bought above - these are like walking on a warm cloud swaddled in hugs 😃

I buy Sheepers. They always have clearance/seconds pairs for about £15 so they're not as expensive as you think when you go on the website. I've had two pairs of 'seconds' and both were perfect.

Devilledmeg · 03/10/2022 10:54

Any non sheepskin recommendations as don't want to use animal products. I saw North Face booties recommended on another thread though they're quite pricey

Augend23 · 03/10/2022 10:57

I have had good sheepskin slippers from Onaie (cheaper on Etsy)

www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1301776954/womens-sheepskin-moccasins-lucky-dip?click_key=f6216b6c2dcd25beadd9835ce0e21a64f6e3e83f%3A1301776954&click_sum=e081860f&ref=shop_home_active_4&pro=1&frs=1

But I do still need socks with them as they stop on rather than above the ankle.

INeedNewShoes · 03/10/2022 11:03

When I'm sitting for ages working at my desk I wear leg warmers as well as slippers. As pp said, you need to insulate your ankles too.

These were a present last Xmas wore them to death, still looking good. I do also wear the fleecy Xmas socks as well. My feet are always cold. So try layering. I find sheepskin stretches so go down a size
