After going round the shops today I was serisouly tempted to start buying Christmas presents but as I don't have much storage space decided against it it got me thinking
When do you start buying??

Normally the end of November or start of December. I only have 5 people to buy for though, and we all make a list through the year, so there isn’t any guess work involved.

APurpleSquirrel · 02/10/2022 15:21

I've already started - I buy bits as & when I see them.

IglesiasPiggl · 02/10/2022 15:24

I start in September so I can spread the cost over several paycheques.

I’ve started as I did an order from o/s and delivery is quite high so makes sense to put Christmas stuff in

youagainomg · 02/10/2022 15:30

Started in July done by September,

Plump82 · 02/10/2022 15:31

I've done all mine. Only think I've not got is an electrical item that I want to get closer to the time just so they're maximum warranty if there's any issues.

Biscuitandacuppa · 02/10/2022 15:33

Already started, I bought my parents presents in May! But they are cross stitch kits that require many hours of time to complete ready for Xmas day. I started buying dd’s presents last month as I am on a low income and need to spread the cost out.

KangarooKenny · 02/10/2022 15:33

I’ve bought the odd thing now, especially as prices are rising.

OldTinHat · 02/10/2022 15:36

January. Already done and wrapped for this year!

(Yes, there's always one - but I can't afford it otherwise.)

BadgerLovesMash · 02/10/2022 15:38

I start after my daughters birthday in June. I try and buy second hand or on offer so like to start early and find the best deals. My only exceptions are I don't buy clothes until October when when start the extended christmas returns and I dont pay more than i can resell on if they change their minds.

Eg I bought dd2 a few second hand rainbow high dolls, I know if she isnt into them come Christmas I can resell for what I paid for them.

I've started buying a Christmas treat each week now for stockings/advent. This week I bought chocolate oranges as they were £1 in sainsburys and last year I left it too late to buy them!

SingingSands · 02/10/2022 15:43

I bought two presents at a craft market yesterday. Sometimes I just see something and it matches perfectly to the recipient.

MissyB1 · 02/10/2022 15:46

Not usually until November. But this year ds has asked for a couple of football shirts, so I’ve ordered them in case they sell out.

notacooldad · 02/10/2022 15:46

Normally in December but I saw the perfect gift for my friend in Keswick a few weeks ago so I’ve bought her’s

Ricardothesnowman · 02/10/2022 15:47

If you start rely early, what if DC change thier mind about what they like, and you are left, for example, with a load of Spiderman stuff when they are now into something completely different?

Gilead · 02/10/2022 15:55

Finished!

MintJulia · 02/10/2022 15:56

I plan what I'll get and then order it all at the end of November..
Except for ds' new bike which we'll order at half term.

MarthaMayWhovier · 02/10/2022 15:58

I'm finished for Ds. I can't remember what month I started though.

YorkieTheRabbit · 02/10/2022 16:48

I’ve already bought some, got my wrapping paper, ribbon and tags. Yesterday I ordered a couple of gifts and Christmas cards form John Lewis.

cookiecreammmpie · 02/10/2022 16:52

I've started. I've got 4 kids so I start buying for them around September/ October and then just add to it as I go along.

AperolWhore · 02/10/2022 17:03

I start in January, I get stocking fillers in the sales then buy as soon as I see something I know someone on my list will love.

Poppiesway1 · 02/10/2022 17:08

August…
And I hide it all in a locked suitcase 😁

lannistunut · 02/10/2022 17:09

August

MrsDThomas · 02/10/2022 17:09

i only but for my kids and dad. Mine are teens so want money, but i buy bits like loungewear, slippers, smellies etc

Pushyoupullme · 02/10/2022 17:13

When I see the right thing or when it is on sale. Any month of the year. If it's big (unless it's a real sale bargain) or easy to obtain all the time, I'll get it in November or, quite often, have it sent directly in early Dec. But we're not doing much in the way of Christmas presents in our (all adult bar one teenager) family now, even less so this year due to funds.

Itsnotallblackandwhite · 02/10/2022 17:16

I started yesterday by chance. There was a good sale in Oliver Bonas so I bought for 3 people. I only hope I remember what I bought, for who, and where I've stored them 🎅
