I’m not leaving the house until it gets better

Anyone care to join me? It’s a storm out there. Winter is coming. Everything is too expensive & the weather is going to shit for the next six months. I’m going to stay in my house until it’s nicer. Hiding.

Nah it’s a bright sunny day here. I’ve spent enough time at home in the last 2 years thanks. Just going to grab something to eat and then I’m back out there!

KangarooKenny · 02/10/2022 13:21

Blue sky and sun here. A lovely day for a walk in the leaves.

Raidtheice · 02/10/2022 13:23

I'd like to but I need to hang my washing outside cos I can't afford to have the dryer on. 😫

SpringRainbow · 02/10/2022 13:25

I often think that if it wasn’t for my kids I could quite happily stay at home the majority of the time really.

I’m quite happy indoors on my own just pottering around.

PurpleWisteria1 · 02/10/2022 13:27

Anything could be round the corner op.
Could he diagnosed with cancer next week and only be given a year to live.
You have one life and every day you are here is a privilege not afforded to many who deserved longer.
I know a little boy who has recently died of cancer age 6. What he and his family would have done with just a few more months of health.
Dont waste a drop.enjoy the simple things and the beauty in the small every day sights sounds and smells outside.
There is even beauty in a storm.

Ori1 · 02/10/2022 13:56

Kind words @PurpleWisteria1

but sometimes I just feel safer at home. The world seems a tough, rough place at the moment

ChocolateCrepe · 02/10/2022 14:00

Attempting to do this myself OP

Unfortunately I have DC who need to leave the house but trying to make things more fun and comfortable at home to minimise that to as little as possible

The world is not a nice place right now

FictionalCharacter · 02/10/2022 14:00

No I don’t agree!
Are you in the UK? It’s been sunny here today. It isn’t winter yet, it’s only the beginning of October, and autumn days can be bright, mild and lovely (winter days can be too - we live in a temperate climate and our winters really aren’t that bad).
Hide at home if you’re happier there, but don’t blame the weather.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/10/2022 14:02

Lovely sunny day here.

@PurpleWisteria1 I echo what you said. In a few minutes dh and I will be off to a charity sale for a children’s cancer charity. Organisers are the family of a little boy who died last year, aged 7.

Wafflesnsniffles · 02/10/2022 14:03

Going out means you can be in places where the heating costs are someone elses problem (at work, at the library, in a museum, a cafe). Ergo going out is a good idea. Plus if you walk to get there - good exercise and it will warm you up. Added bonus you might see a friend or make a new one.

CheezePleeze · 02/10/2022 14:05

It's beautiful here and the sun is quite warm. I've just hung a line of washing out.

Besides, staying indoors will be expensive when the weather turns colder 😁

Choopi · 02/10/2022 14:07

I've just spent the past few hours planting 100s of Spring bulbs. I always get SAD in Winter but I'm hoping future me will thank present me for brightening things up a little bit! I'm sweating after doing it so I got warmed up for free too!

The world is not a nice place right now

The world has never been a particularly nice place and never will be.

But kids (if encouraged) are normally delighted to go out every day. My local play park is crammed through all seasons.

It's good for the mind and body to get them out and about and of course the nicest thing about being out in cold weather, is getting home and having a hot drink/PJs on etc.

MarshaBradyo · 02/10/2022 14:11

So nice here, sunny and warm

I wouldn’t recommend it though, exercise and getting outside is better for your mh

Calmdown14 · 02/10/2022 14:35

I think the opposite is true. Getting out shows the world is just the same as before.

I find comfort in wondering what some of the buildings have witnessed in their history. Puts minor blips into context.

It all feels much more grim online and on TV than it does outside when I can have a nice walk with a flask of tea

catwithflowers · 02/10/2022 14:41

It was gorgeous here in the north east this morning. A little grey now but a nice breeze for drying the washing! Definitely healthier to get out for a walk 😊

junebirthdaygirl · 02/10/2022 14:44

Stay away from the news articles and negative stuff and live as you always lived. It's beautiful here today and no sign of winter.
Just enjoy each day.

Without being maudlin, my friend from baby group died of cancer a couple of years ago. Whenever I'm feeling fed up, I think of her 11 and 15 year old kids carrying her coffin, and that she'd have given anything for another day.

Puts life in context. Yes, the economy might be dire and we're all had enough of covid and crappy chores, but at least we're here.

Love this post. It puts me in the same frame of mind as Carl Sagans ‘little blue dot’

What a gorgeous picture, @catwithflowers ! I love this time of year. It's a beautiful sunny day and it's cold and crisp. I hate the heat!
I think getting out of the house is very important, it does keep you more healthy.

Well no, I have to go out to work!

Blueeyedgirl21 · 02/10/2022 14:51

I have to get out every day ! Baby dd and I go for walks, for a coffee etc

if I can’t spare 2.25 for an Americano a couple of times a week what’s the frigging point in anything 😂😂😂

Quite. A little bit of what you fancy does you a power of good!

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 02/10/2022 14:57

Not really. When feeling down, getting out, even just into the garden makes a big difference. Watching trees, flowers, birds, gives me so much joy.

Maireas · 02/10/2022 14:58

Do you work from home, OP?
Sometimes I think going out to work is better, a different environment and engaging with others.
