Let’s talk bagels

So inspired by my previous thread, all this talk of bagels got me wondering how everyone likes their bagels?

Im looking for inspiration on what I can put on my bagels.

So savoury bagels I like cream cheese with bacon (I love smoked salmon too but DH hates it and I would struggle to eat a whole pack myself).

The sweet cinnamon ones I just put butter on, I’m not sure what else I can do with them.

Whats your favourite bagel topping for both savoury and sweet bagels??

I like just butter in the cinnamon and raising ones. For plain bagels I like Peanut butter and banana, or using one for a BLT or chicken salad sandwich. I also like one toasted with butter and cut in to soldiers to go with soft boiled eggs.

Sliced chicken and sweet chilli sauce with salad leaves! Yum!

classic avocado but with generous helping of chilli flakes and rock salt on top

never had a sweet one!

I had a tuna mayo one with melted cheese on top today. Also like ham and cheese so it's like a pizza.

I like bacon with some (uncooked) spinach leaves, a bit of mayo and a bit of sweet chilli sauce.

Or tuna and cheddar.

Always on a sesame seed bagel as they are my favourite. I’m not really into the sweet ones.

Breakfast
Sausage patties with egg and cheese
Mushroom cheese and thyme

If it's a cinnamon one
Peanut butter and banana
Nutella and strawberries

I love bagels for breakfast 😃

Ooh, now I really want a bagel! I haven’t had one in ages. Tesco used to do an onion bagel that was AMAZING just with proper butter on it, but haven’t seen them recently.

Pizza bagels! A smear of tomato puree, handful of grated cheese, a few black olives and then whack them under the grill. Yum 😋

I think the most important thing is the actual bagel. Jewish bakery ones are by far the best.

My DD (15yr) has a plain bagel with Dairylea spread for lunch every day and has done probably for the 6/7 months.

If the bagel comes from a proper Jewish bakery I'd have it with pretty much anything.

OP you can freeze smoked salmon. I wrap it in foil in single portions as there's only me and the cats if I let them who eats it here.

I keep meaning to go to the Jewish bakeries to try a proper bagel, so thanks for the reminder from those who've mentioned them.

Savoury - smashed avocado, chilli flakes, streaky bacon and an egg (maybe halloumi too if I'm feeling fancy)

Sweet - batter it like French toast with cinnamon in and fry 😂 not healthy but delicious!!

OMG why had it not occurred to me to freeze the salmon 🤣…

Also does everyone toast their bagels? I have never had one not toasted 🤔

And do you eat it like a sandwich or keep the two halves separate?

I like to have savoury ones as a sandwich and sweet in two halves

Some interesting ideas here for bagel toppings😋 …

Peanut butter on the cinnamon bagel, maybe topped with a slice of strong cheddar, and always eat the two halves separately to double the pleasure!

Houmous on a sesame bagel.
Cinnamon and raisin bagel with Nutella.
Cheddar cheese, mango chutney, spinach leaves and small amount of mayo on plain bagel.

All lightly toasted!

Mozzarella cheese, tomatoe, rocket, avocado and chill oil with lots of black pepper.

Now thin bagels I don’t like them - too thin 😂😂😂 and I get hungry in 1 hr.

New York’s - I can’t be bothered to slice them with all the chunky crumbs.

Warbutons regular plain bagels my favourite and they are pre sliced 🤩 cooked on number 2 setting in my toaster lightly golden yum
