Let’s talk bagels

So inspired by my previous thread, all this talk of bagels got me wondering how everyone likes their bagels?

Im looking for inspiration on what I can put on my bagels.

So savoury bagels I like cream cheese with bacon (I love smoked salmon too but DH hates it and I would struggle to eat a whole pack myself).

The sweet cinnamon ones I just put butter on, I’m not sure what else I can do with them.

Whats your favourite bagel topping for both savoury and sweet bagels??

I only like savoury ones. Preferably the sesame ones.

I like chilli cheese spread or pâté for something quick and easy - if I have more time I like tuna and onion mix with grated cheddar, put under the grill. My friend introduced me to them, she has chopped pickles in hers too.

Cream cheese and salmon
Ham or bacon and brie
Marmite

Ds has it toasted with NOTHING on it. Just a dry toasted bagel! He also eats toast the same way too

Had to join in given my username 😂 but I’m really boring, I have plain bagels toasted and spread with Lurpak every morning for breakfast. I’ve been on holiday so not had one for over a week and now craving it! Occasionally get the cinnamon and raisin ones if plain are sold out but don’t feel the love.

Jingsmahbucket. I’d be interested to know this too. The one remaining Jewish bakery in our city cannot make proper bagels.

For goodness sake, the Asda man has already been and I didn’t get any bagels and now I really want one 😅

NYB Plain bagel with squeaky bean pastrami, cathedral city plant based cheese, mustard and mayo 😍

Anywhere that spells it ‘beiges’ is a good bet. And when it’s sold by a Jewish person of a certain age who calls it a buy-gul rather then a bay-gul.

This thread has made be realise that being Jewish (though not religious at all) I have an odd reaction to posters who have suggested bacon, ham etc as bagel fillings. Despite the fact I don’t keep kosher at all the idea of non-kosher meat on a bagel makes me think ‘but you can’t do that!’.

Yes, I found the suggestions of ham or bacon somehow 'wrong' as a bagel filling.

Our last proper Jewish bakery used to start selling them when Sabbath had ended on Saturday. Nothing like a warm bagel hot off the press

That's just reminded me of the times we used to go on the way home from the clubs at about 4 am on Sunday morning. We had friends who lived near the bakery, so we'd get a taxi from the city to the bakery, get bagels and go to our friends house to eat bagels and crash until lunchtime.

My local deli sells 3000 bagels on a Sunday. Has a special deal on that involves bagels, cream cheese, smoked salmon. Plus a great deli selection all made on the premises. Let's Fress in Prestwich

That suggests that Sunday is a good day to go buy bagels, given that I can't really get there in the week (it's right at the other side of the city) and obviously they're closed on Saturday.

Coronation chickpea. But make sure you mash or blitz some of the chickpeas so things hold together
