Sketchers - any good or for oldies?!

DD says they're for old people. But I'm off on a big holiday in a few weeks and need some comfy footwear. Would anyone recommend any styles?

It’s weird because when I was in America a few years back all the teenagers/twenty somethings were wearing them. Back home they do seem to appeal more to the ‘oldies’ or people with jobs that involve them being on their feet all day.

I had no idea they were for oldies, that explains why I like them so much 😆 although does anyone else find the soles slippery when it's been raining once you've had them for a while?

I only wear mine in guaranteed dry weather for this reason - absolutely treacherous if it's been raining.

My podiatrist told me to avoid Sketchers, they are comfy but not supportive at all.

You are absolutely correct..
while Skechers feel like slippers .. they are so bad for your feet and posture .

Mine told me to get them! They worked wonders for my plantar fasciitis and peroneal tendinitis!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/09/2022 22:02

Enough already with the ageist shit, please.

Personally, I think they're horrible, fit badly and are seriously over-priced. I am also quite old.

Tia74 · 30/09/2022 22:02

I love mine. Wear them all the time walking to work around London. Uno ones with white sole. I'm 40 something 😁

Will try add image

They cured my plantar fascitis when far more expensive treatments didn't. The foot specialist I saw recommended them.
Your daughter is ageist.

Mine too! And they worked!

Oblomov22 · 30/09/2022 22:05

Been wearing them for years, every day. Comfiest thing ever.

Mollie5 · 30/09/2022 22:08

I have two pairs and love them and I'm 29.

I'm 25 and have some! Bought them for a big city break holiday. Guy in the shop said most people ask him for them to go to NYC!

Why would people buy shoes for a specific city? Isn't that a bit odd? Do people regularly buy new shoes to go to NYC or Toronto or Sydney?

Caroffee · 30/09/2022 22:11

I recommend the arch fit Go Walk styles for flat feet/fallem arches. Best thing I've found to help this problem.

wheresmyshoe · 30/09/2022 22:13

They are like walking on clouds. I have fragile skin but can walk miles and miles without blisters.

Ageist mean to discriminate due to age. Discrimination is the unjust or unfair treatment of a group of people due to their race or sex age etc. How is saying a brand is mostly bought by older people discrimination? It's not.

TimeToGoUpAGear · 30/09/2022 22:15

I've had them for the last 10 years, wear them daily.

I wouldn't walk over 5 miles in them though, that needs something with more support. My timberland hiking boots are amazingly comfy on long winter walks (ok, also definitely not trendy)!

maddiemookins16mum · 30/09/2022 22:22

I wear them but the best thing ever for my PF was a £7 pair of heel inserts from Amazon. Months of pain solved overnight.

MrsCarson · 30/09/2022 22:23

I got the Skechers Arch fit just in time for my holiday best thing I ever did. I have/had Plantar fasciatis and was able to walk lots with no pain.
I have some other Skechers for work love them. I also have other shoes/boots which I can now wear without pain too.

MissingGrandstand · 30/09/2022 22:25

@deedledeedledum I think NYC is different to other cities in that it's possible to walk the whole of Manhattan. Going to NYC is like going to Florida - everyone tells you to get good walking shoes. Other cities could be different in that you may possibly rely more on transport. I completely understand why people would say about needing a certain pair of shoes for NYC but wouldn't say the same about London for example.

Lou98 · 30/09/2022 22:30

I love mine! Started wearing sketchers at work because I'm a Dog Groomer and on my feet all day but I now also have a black and a white pair that I wear daily pretty much! I'm 24 for reference

m00rfarm · 30/09/2022 22:32

I love the boat shoes - they go in the washing machine and come out looking like new - and soooo comfortable. I also bought the walking sliders (not sure what they are really called) - everyone said they would be useless for walking, and I spent three days in Seville covering 15km each day and they were amazing.

SimonaRazowska · 30/09/2022 22:33

They are a very wide loose fit

Not good for slim or bony or narrow feet

Mariposista · 30/09/2022 22:34

No way are they for oldies. They come in all colours and styles, they're very smart and stylish.
My ICU nurse friends wears them for 10 hour shifts - very comfortable.

I got some from m&m direct for £25 in the sale. I bought them thinking that even if they were crap they'd do for the theme parks on holiday. I love them!

PinkBuffalo · 30/09/2022 22:37

I am in my 30s and they the only thing I wear on my feet 🦶 so comfy!

Bonjovispjs · 30/09/2022 22:38

@ChubbyBroccoli Glad it's not just me then, I've started doing the same, don't dare wear them in the rain anymore since slipping over on my arse on a wet tube station platform 🤣
