DD says they're for old people. But I'm off on a big holiday in a few weeks and need some comfy footwear. Would anyone recommend any styles?

Oldies?! Most of DS’ shoes are from Skechers.

Should I have some?!

DSs school shoes are Sketchers

I love mine, I bought all sorts this year and reverted back to Sketchers. They’re not for oldies, they market them for children and I’m sure there were ads years ago for teens- yes 90’s sketchers and show your teen 🤣🤣🤣🤣 tell her they’re vintage now lol

Thanks for the replies. Quite mixed about if they're good for your back!! Think I might go and try the arch support ones, though I've had a shock at the price of them!

I have a pair for work, they are incredibly comfortable and I found that wearing them stopped the aching feet and legs I was getting by the end of the day.
On days off I wear converse or DMS and my feet ache a lot more.
Style/lookswise I think they are pretty ugly.
Last week I gave a little 'hey we've got exactly the same shoes on' nod and smile to a man who was probably in his early 80s...so there is that.

Subbaxeo · 01/10/2022 08:29

I don’t find them comfy-too spongy. Ecco are more supportive but just got some Adidas running shoes which are incredible comfortable. I need firm support though as I have high arches.

I'm an oldie. I tried Skechers and didn't get on with them at all. They are far too soft and squishy, imo! Yes, they're comfortable, in the same way that bedroom slippers are comfortable, but I couldn't walk further than a mile or two in them, due to the total lack of support structure within the shoes.
They're very bendy, which puts too much stress on the big toe joints and can cause pain. Also, there's no arch support at all. Oh, and they're not waterproof either (at least, mine weren't) and my feet got soaked through just from walking across grass that had dew on it.

If you're looking for shoes for walking around in all day, I think you'd do better to look for a decent pair of properly structured, waterproof walking shoes. If you're after width, Columbia shoes tend to be made on a wide last and are very supportive.

They are shoes, anyone can wear them same as any other brand! Try them on, if you like them buy them. If you don't like them buy something else.

@80sMum
The Arch Fit Skechers are so much better than the Memory foam ones.
I wish they would do more styles with Arch fit.

My podiatrist told me to avoid Sketchers, they are comfy but not supportive at all.

Depends on the issue. DH was advised them for his knee. 🤷🏻‍♀️ he was the one who took me to the shop to get me a pair 😅

RampantIvy · 01/10/2022 10:09

IMO anyone getting advice from a podiatrist is seeing one for a specific issue, so the advice to not wear them for the general population may not be relevant.

I find them extremely comfortable and wore them in Rome (along with what seemed like most of the other tourists), and when we went to Orlando - again a significant number of visitors wore them.
