Shameless cake boast - I'm so pleased with my beehive cake :)

Just finished DS1's birthday cake and it was a logistical nightmare (white chocolate not setting properly, bees on wires waving all over the place)

He's interested in bees at the moment and has chosen a trip to a bee farm for a birthday outing, so I decided to try a beehive cake! Am so pleased with it (and relieved it's all finally stable, I ended up using the hard sugar flowers I made last week to brace the bee wires into place!)

It has to be kept hidden until Thursday, and I'm excited, so I thought I'd share it with you lot! It's striped yellow and dark chocolate cake inside, with honey buttercream Smile

Well it looks ok, but you will have to send me a slice, one with a bee please, before I can give you a unbiased opinion.

No, just a hobby that started when my kids were small. Very hit and miss!

White chocolate in a silicon mould (about £3 on amazon) then painted with gold shimmer dust mixed with a little vodka

It is beautiful, well done you. I was looking at bee days ( no ,not that sort) the other week, there are hives in so many amazing places, I love the fancy ones on Fortnums and Masons roof, and there are some on the big east London mosque roof too.

byvirtue · 27/09/2022 16:58

mibbelucieachwell · 27/09/2022 16:59

Epic.

How lovely.

I've always secretly prided myself on always baking cakes for birthdays but just ones with butter icing or chocolate ganache on top with a fancy candle plonked on.
