Shameless cake boast - I'm so pleased with my beehive cake :)

Just finished DS1's birthday cake and it was a logistical nightmare (white chocolate not setting properly, bees on wires waving all over the place)

He's interested in bees at the moment and has chosen a trip to a bee farm for a birthday outing, so I decided to try a beehive cake! Am so pleased with it (and relieved it's all finally stable, I ended up using the hard sugar flowers I made last week to brace the bee wires into place!)

It has to be kept hidden until Thursday, and I'm excited, so I thought I'd share it with you lot! It's striped yellow and dark chocolate cake inside, with honey buttercream Smile

As requested: a pic of the cut cake! It tastes pretty good, though I'd add a bit more honey to the buttercream with hindsight. DS very happy Grin

Brilliant! Beautiful inside & out!!

mum & I used to make & decorate cakes, mainly wedding cakes, but novelty ones too.. Hours & hours of making flowers for weeks before!

I don't have the energy, lichen/decorating space or inclination these days.

I wish you made cakes to sell. I'd definitely order one!!

Oh my, someone get the kettle on BrewCake

I usually hate this phrase on MN - but I’m going to use it in a positive manner.

Wow, just wow.

That is absolutely amazing. I bet your son loved it.

Fid you enjoy doing it, or was it a complete stress-fest? If you enjoyed it, you should seriously consider taking on a few private/bespoke bookings - I’d definitely pay you for something that looked like that.

That's beautiful. Your son will always remember that cake and a he gets older understand the amount of love and work that went into creating it. It's a lovely demonstration of your love.
