I have an image of him smirking whilst thinking "I told you so".

I dodged that bullet

OfficiallyBroken · 27/09/2022 13:37

Frankly I think he's trying to work out how to leverage the situation to make more money for him/his wife/her family. Basically like the rest of the Conservatives.

FatMog · 27/09/2022 13:42

He's gained from the tax cuts. He feels smug.

MissHavershamReturns · 27/09/2022 13:43

I think he’s probably frustrated. He did warn everyone.

myleftventricle · 27/09/2022 13:43

'I'm going to make another fortune from this'

Nope. If he were just interested in money, he wouldn't be in politics. I suspect he's weighing up the possibility of a return once Liz Truss resigns after the next GE.

toomychtiss · 27/09/2022 13:48

told you

Rowthe · 27/09/2022 13:50

Hes probably relieved this shit show didnt happen on his watch.

FayeGovan · 27/09/2022 13:50

He'll be working out how to make extra millions from all this.

DuncinToffee · 27/09/2022 13:50

That's my swimming pool and tennis court paid

Surtsey · 27/09/2022 14:09

I was wondering this exact thing on the way to work this morning. I suspect that he is smirking into his coffee.

Bouledeneige · 27/09/2022 14:15

He entirely predicted that cutting taxes and borrowing in the way Liz Truss predicted would cause a run on the pound.

doubleshotcappuccino · 27/09/2022 14:16

Such a shame as if it had been the parliamentary party he would have been elected hands down .. only when it went to the general Conservative party vote did he huge lead disappear .. I wonder why ? He's probably thinking he would never got into this mess having steered us through covid .. and what a shame is some people couldn't get passed his colour .. it's the only reason he is not in that seat . They would rather watch this a show then let him the realm

PaperPalace · 27/09/2022 14:17

I very much doubt he has gained financially. He'll have lost far more from the lower stock market than anything he's gained from the income tax cut.

Bouledeneige · 27/09/2022 14:23

Last night Twitter was going wild about the fact that Sunak predicted what has happened - the run on the pound and the risk that the Bank of England will have to put up interest rates - further fuelling inflation. The fall of Sterling will push up the cost of imports - medicine, food and gas further exacerbating the cost of living crisis. Its madness and was precisely what Sunak said throughout the leadership election.

Last night Conservative MPs were so worried they were talking about a no confidence move to oust Liz Truss and re-run the leadership election with Boris and Rishi. Thery were discussing getting Sunak in as a caretaker PM.

This crisis is serious - so much so that even the Tories have noticed.

Sunak has been restrained not to have said I told you so. I hope he's not crowing. The country is in serious and deep shit.

LimeCheesecake · 27/09/2022 14:27

Rumour has it that letters are being submitted by Tory backbenchers to get rid of Liz Truss already. So if true, Sunak might be getting ready to stand for leader again. If not now, he’ll be lining himself up to be the next leader.

user6497219 · 27/09/2022 14:29

That he was probably right

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/09/2022 14:31

He's keeping his powder dry.

Fishandchipsupper · 27/09/2022 14:32

I hope he’s thinking of having another pop at being Prime Minister; his policies would not have let this happen. He was an economist, and didn’t need to be in politics for the money. He didn’t get in last time because he was truthful about the economy . Liz got in because she sold a fairytale.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 27/09/2022 14:33

Whatever his father in law tells him to

MaverickSnoopy · 27/09/2022 14:39

Well if I were him, I would be thinking ffs I could see this coming and be feeling immensely frustrated. In reality he's probably thinking ffs you should have voted for me.

I didn't want either of them in but I could see his predictions were right and I don't know that much about economics. When Truss got in, I felt a big sense of doom.

VeryImportantTitle · 27/09/2022 14:40

I very much suspect that he is saying 'FFS, I didn't make a fortune in the Finance industry for being an idiot. I warned you. I know my field. You have made your beds, now lie in them - STOP CALLING ME'.

He has enough money to not need to worry about the economy. He would have taken a massive salary drop to go into politics from Hedge Funds. I believe he went into politics for the right reasons. I believe Truss went into politics for the wrong reasons.

If I was him, I'd be washing my hands of the mess.

VeryImportantTitle · 27/09/2022 14:42

He comes across to me as someone quietly confident and intelligent. She comes across to me as someone aggressively ambitious.

Dancinginthebasement91 · 27/09/2022 14:42

I'd be trying to decide if I wanted to use my swimming pool before or after tea and vaguely thinking that I check how close my constituency is to Scotland.

KvotheTheBloodless · 27/09/2022 14:45

He absolutely didn't go into politics to get rich - he's already married to a billionaire. He went into it for idealistic reasons and (probably) wanting the power/recognition, and is probably extremely pissed off with the current shitshow but is also considering how to best leverage it for his own political gain.

Most Tories are probably thinking variations on 'Shit, we picked the wrong Miliband'.
