I have an image of him smirking whilst thinking "I told you so".

The money that Hedge Fund managers make is in the millions per annum. He excelled in that field.

But oh no. Let's vote in a woman with an attitude instead? Truss has something to prove. She is cold. She's aggressive. She doesn't give a fuck.

MarshaBradyo · 27/09/2022 14:47

It’s annoying he was hit so hard with the media campaign re his wife’s wealth

MarshaBradyo · 27/09/2022 14:48

And tbf he lost it a bit in the debates. He should have kept it together more

Jackienory · 27/09/2022 14:49

That I totally fucked-up listening to Javid.

LightDrizzle · 27/09/2022 14:50

Rolling his eyes and shaking his head.

I can’t believe Conservatives went for such an old school Tory populist. She came across as clueless about the economy.

I very much suspect that he is saying 'FFS, I didn't make a fortune in the Finance industry for being an idiot. I warned you. I know my field. You have made your beds, now lie in them - STOP CALLING ME'.

He has enough money to not need to worry about the economy. He would have taken a massive salary drop to go into politics from Hedge Funds. I believe he went into politics for the right reasons. I believe Truss went into politics for the wrong reasons.

If I was him, I'd be washing my hands of the mess.

His salary will be completely irrelevant to the family finances. His wife is one of the richest women in the uk.

CasaDelSoot · 27/09/2022 14:53

Wonder how Akshata and I are going to pay our energy bills this winterConfused

VeryImportantTitle · 27/09/2022 14:54

I would say that not even a juicy carrot would lure him back. He's not worried about money. He doesn't need to prove himself. I think that we were lucky to have him through Brexit and Covid or things might have gone tits up before this. I'd love to know how Truss has a wealth of 8million. Where did she earn that?

I'm aware of that.

Edamamebeans · 27/09/2022 14:55

He's practising his gracious statesmanlike smile in the mirror and keeping himself distant from the fracas until the time is right to steady the ship.

dottiedodah · 27/09/2022 15:03

I think he will be sad at this .He seemed to be the "Nice Guy" I felt ,Sure he could have a pretty sound life with his wealthy wife and DC ,however he was in politics presumably to make a difference .Now he is on the sidelines .I hope he may find a way back in at some point

MarshaBradyo · 27/09/2022 15:09

It is so frustrating the media can destroy people like this. On his actions you could see he would be more likely to intervene. But he was judged on the superfluous

the media makes these decisions and it’s to our detriment

I didn’t agree with his huge spending over covid - but then it turns out neither did he.

I genuinely think that he was a nice guy. The industry he was in is cut-throat and it eats you up inside. Yes, you make lots of money, but he left it. It's like the CEO deciding that they wanted to work on the factory floor instead. It doesn't make sense unless he genuinely has a conscience. I could never quite understand the decision. I suspect that his marriage has come under strain. He has children I think?

Truss? Well, that's a wholly different story. How does an accountant end up with a net worth of £8m?

Such a shame as if it had been the parliamentary party he would have been elected hands down .. only when it went to the general Conservative party vote did he huge lead disappear .. I wonder why ? He's probably thinking he would never got into this mess having steered us through covid .. and what a shame is some people couldn't get passed his colour .. it's the only reason he is not in that seat . They would rather watch this a show then let him the realm

I think you might find that a lot of people didn't want him because he's extremely rich and married into a vastly richer family and has plans to leave for the US. He clearly has no clue what the average Brit is going through and that was obvious. Unfortunately Liz Truss was the only other option at that point. She got the vote by default.
That said, I think the new chancellor has put the future prospects of all black politicians back about 3 centuries with his decision to reward the rich even further. But then he is an Etonian.....

Nobody appears to know where Truss got her fortune from.

VeryImportantTitle · 27/09/2022 15:24

Truss has a house worth f all (my flat is worth almost as much). Her salary as minister was 80k approx. She does not come from wealth. So where does her money come from? How do you acquire £8 million?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 27/09/2022 15:27

I listened to an interview with Rishi on Jeremy Vine. It was just before Liz won. He came across so well and explained in simple terms why her idea was so terrible.
I hadn’t particularly been following the leadership race and suddenly I realised he was really right about the economy. He sounded like someone who cared and wanted to be in politics. He’s got enough money not to have to worry, or work again.
liz seems utterly terrifying.

Whatever his father in law tells him to

Have a lot of time for his father in law. Played a huge role in getting the Indian IT industry started while the govt was looking the other way. Personally a very frugal man, distributed employee stocks to all his employees - cleaners, drivers etc... not just the developers. Distributed wealth like it was going out of fashion.

If Rishi is listening to his father-in-law, we'll be good.

MintJulia · 27/09/2022 15:54

Or rather we would have been good. sadly, it's irrelevant now.

Surely he's just waiting in the wings? Nothing stopping him becoming PM when they boot out Truss.

If it’s swift then fine but we can’t take another leadership contest it takes out the government for too long. Was it 8 weeks last time?

I suspect he's thinking 'I can't try to explain this any further.'

Whynobreadpudding · 27/09/2022 16:14

Very true, people couldn’t see past his skin colour, he has more experience and presence. Liz Truss seems like a novice. Shame.

I think that he's possibly an introvert and being in the public eye possibly stresses him out. I don't think he's hungry for power. My estimation of him is that he is simply quietly confident and has put his family first. I can't imagine him getting into an argument or debate. He's more a numbers man I would say.
