Hopefully I've done this so it works.

Stella Braverman is absolutely disgusting. How have we got to the point where it is acceptable for a cabinet minister to refer to the abuse of vulnerable people's basic human rights as her "dream".

Lower than vermin indeed.

Notonthestairs · 04/10/2022 22:23

The Times reports that the Treasury will have to pay back the Bank of England £34bn for its role shoring up the market after the disastrous mini budget. God, that was one VERY expensive tax cut (and u-turn)

🧐 I'm not sure I understand this but if correct surely that must be the end of them.

Lonelycrab · 04/10/2022 22:32

Do these stupid, stupid people actually talk to each other

They talk to mainly the voices inside their own head.

Braverman is actually evil isn't she?

ClaudineClare · 04/10/2022 22:49

Roussette · 04/10/2022 22:37

Yes. The scariest thing is that she doesn't feel the need to disguise how evil she is.

Roussette · 04/10/2022 22:54

Yes, no dog whistle but a fog horn

Notonthestairs · 04/10/2022 22:54

She's been taking lessons from the Republican Party. Buzz words lifted from the American far right. I don't think they play as well in this country but I guess if you live in her sort of toxic bubble then you might be ill informed.

A great thread about Truss by Russ. Well worth a read, it's spot on

tobee · 05/10/2022 02:52

Depressing though. Sad

TokyoSushi · 04/10/2022 21:31

I wonder whether a lot of people will stay away from the Truss speech tomorrow citing train strikes?

Just heard it's very empty there!

itsgettingweird · 05/10/2022 06:42

Roussette · 04/10/2022 22:37

She absolutely is.

It's hard to explain but even just her trying to talk to you in the street there is something about her that makes your hairs on your backs stand on end.

I refuse to give her the time of day just like she did me when I needed my MP to help.

Andrea Jenkyns did the same in her awful HE speech. Except she is so ill informed, she couldn't even get anti semitic dog whistle 'cultural Marxism' correct.

Notonthestairs · 05/10/2022 07:52

The more I think of it the more astonished I am by this particular conference. It was supposed a chance for Truss to strut, receive lavish compliments and the adoration of the party.
By throwing out Johnson's manifesto she's created a highly volatile divided party and advertised it to the nation. There is a lot of talk of necessary change but no recognition of the trauma of the last few years. People crave stability. Businesses crave stability. Providing half a budget (uncosted) was madness.

And nobody can tell me that MPs would have headed home if Johnson was giving his speech today. They'd have hung on for the after party!

I saw a commentator this morning sum it up as lots of rhetoric without much meat. I’m not sure if they were confident or hopeful something of substance might be said today.

Notonthestairs · 05/10/2022 08:01

Well she's apparently shortened the speech to half an hour so I am guessing less meat. They are frightened she'll spook the markets.
I don't remember other PMs needing to cut keynote speeches so as to preserve the financial system.

DuncinToffee · 05/10/2022 08:49

Apparently she is going to say "Whenever there is change, there is disruption.”, not sure if that will reassure the markets.

Cornettoninja · 05/10/2022 08:55

I’m pretty confident Truss (and by extension her cabinet) are now in the position they literally don’t have a good choice. There’s little possibility of recovery in talking or not talking now.

The emperors clothes have truly been sussed.

DuncinToffee · 05/10/2022 08:57

The replies are brilliant Grin

A 25 minute speech later from the Prime Minister I’m told. And she’ll arrive on stage to ‘a 90s classic.’

Notonthestairs · 05/10/2022 08:59

A flavour of Truss's speech. Apparently there is an "anti growth coalition".

"I will not allow the anti-growth coalition to hold us back. Labour, Lib Dems and SNP, the militant unions, the vested interests dressed up as think tanks, the talking heads, the Brexit deniers and Extinction Rebellion."

How she's able to talk about "vested interests dressed up a think tanks" with a straight face I have no idea. The IEA are pretty much running Downing Street at the moment.
I also have no idea what a Brexit denier is - haven't they got that done yet?
And we are back to referring to "militant unions".
There also some stuff about north London elites charging taxi's to the BBC. Different from south London elites getting £500k flights to Australia I suppose.

Cornettoninja · 05/10/2022 09:00

LT coming out to a 90’s classic? She’s got to be coming out to M people moving on up.

Cornettoninja · 05/10/2022 09:01

@Notonthestairs shes doing that Trump thing of accusing others of what they’re doing.

Notonthestairs · 05/10/2022 09:02

The replies to the 90's classic are hilarious 😆 I really want it to be Steps -Tragedy or Pulp Common People.

borntobequiet · 05/10/2022 09:03

I will not allow the anti-growth coalition to hold us back. Labour, Lib Dems and SNP, the militant unions, the vested interests dressed up as think tanks, the talking heads, the Brexit deniers and Extinction Rebellion

Everyone in the country with a modicum of common sense and awareness of reality then.

Notonthestairs · 05/10/2022 09:04

Cornettoninja · 05/10/2022 09:01

@Notonthestairs shes doing that Trump thing of accusing others of what they’re doing.

Exactly. But I think she underestimates the British public.

Notonthestairs · 05/10/2022 09:08

One thing she definitely won't mention is that they have been in power for 12 years.
