The Sopranos... how did I miss this?

I've recently 'discovered' The Sopranos and OMG how freaking brilliant is it? I've done almost 3 seasons in a just over a week. I really thought I wouldn't be able to follow it as my concentration is low, but yep... I can do it! And what surprised me even more is that it's subtly really funny in places.

As a lover of the Italian man, I'm really finding 'Tony' intriguing and somewhat attractive.

I find the whole mob subject so interesting. How it works, how it's run... obviously I'm sure it's pretty it's a close as possible to being like real life and it strikes me as long as you're loyal, you won't get killed!

Anyway - just wondered what others opinion was :-)

You're so lucky to be watching it for the first time! Enjoy!

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 20/09/2022 21:00

God it was brilliant- watched it for the first time a couple of years ago. Wish I could watch it for the first time again!

The music choices are inspired too… come back and update when you’ve finished it all, OP 😀

I have watched it over and over. The genius of the writing is that it has you wanting very bad people to not get caught. It’s one if my favourite TV shows of all time. I highly recommend Gomorrah too. It’s fantastic and I suspect a much more realistic portrayal of the sort of low rent mafia in Naples.

It’s very compulsive, but tough watching in parts.
You might also enjoy the Americans, if you haven’t seen it yet.

It's amazing. They're all vile, but so so likeable.

Tony and his ducks!

netflixandnaps · 20/09/2022 21:04

@Picoloangel

Omgosh, I know. I recently saw the one where they were bugging Tony's home and got really angry about it!!!!! I don't want Tony to get done for anything, he's a loveable rogue! Thankfully they got rid of Richie, I really didn't like that character..!

I have never watched it! And mean to!

Thanks for the nudge

netflixandnaps · 20/09/2022 21:05

@lifeturnsonadime

I know! It showed a really soft side to a mobsters character.

And me. How do we watch it?

netflixandnaps · 20/09/2022 21:06

@jelly79

Get on it... sooner rather than later!

Doh. Don't think we've got that.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/09/2022 21:07

It's brilliant, Carmella is amazing, what an actress. I had quite a thing for Tony 🤣

I've watched it all fully 3 times and now and again with ds as he loves it too. It's SO good.

User1754983 · 20/09/2022 21:09

It's on Sky and probably Now tv, I'm going to watch it as I haven't seen it

netflixandnaps · 20/09/2022 21:10

I'm a huge Sopranos fan. Recently watched Enough Said with James Gandolfini in. It was his last film.

Very funny and a very different character yet he still pointed with his knife while talking at the dinner table. Just like Tony Soprano!!

Gabagool!!! 😆

I could have written this post 😂

DenholmElliot1 · 20/09/2022 21:18

It is perfect. Absolutely perfect.

Not one single character in the whole series is miscast. Everyone of them does their job superbly.

I truly believe it is the best television ever made.

Whereabouts are you watching it because i want to watch the whole thing again now.

SnoopyNoseTits · 20/09/2022 21:20

I can’t see the name Christopher without wanting to pronounce it as Christafaaaaaaarrrrr

DutchessOfMuck · 20/09/2022 21:23

The Sopranos is a complete masterpiece. Enjoy op.

Etinoxaurus · 20/09/2022 21:45

Enjoy- and watch Nurse Jackie afterwards with the wonderful Carmella in a very different role.

ladygindiva · 20/09/2022 21:48

Best programme ever. I binged every episode whilst recovering from a big operation, was talking with a new jersey accent and effing and jeffing like a gangster for weeks! It's catching !🤣

Pedallleur · 20/09/2022 21:58

They are just nuts. Tony is a thief, a murderer and an extorsionist and his crew are going along with it. It's the business they are in but you don't cross them and they even bump each other off. Ralph and Ritchie particularly are vile. Janice is always looking for an opportunity to sponge off her brother. The episodes where they go to Naples are great. Not a wasted character or moment but everyone is on a knife edge. You upset Tony or New York then it's badda boom, badda Bing.

Pedallleur · 20/09/2022 22:00

Don't forget Friday is the night out with their Goomahs (mistresses)

Laiste · 20/09/2022 22:05

We finished watching it for the first time 2 weeks ago. We I feel lost without it!

Also was strangely attracted to Tony. Kept forgetting and re-remembering he's no longer with us :(

Bloody Janice though ay?! 🙄
