The Sopranos... how did I miss this?

I've recently 'discovered' The Sopranos and OMG how freaking brilliant is it? I've done almost 3 seasons in a just over a week. I really thought I wouldn't be able to follow it as my concentration is low, but yep... I can do it! And what surprised me even more is that it's subtly really funny in places.

As a lover of the Italian man, I'm really finding 'Tony' intriguing and somewhat attractive.

I find the whole mob subject so interesting. How it works, how it's run... obviously I'm sure it's pretty it's a close as possible to being like real life and it strikes me as long as you're loyal, you won't get killed!

Anyway - just wondered what others opinion was :-)

Have you seen the one where Paulie and Christopher get lost in the woods?

Best episode of any show, ever.

Pedallleur · 20/09/2022 22:09

She is crazy but the scene with Ritchie when she was using the dildo on was great and when he pushed her over the edge I quietly cheered.

On him.

You need to watch the film ‘The Many Saints of Newark’ when you’re finished…it has the late James Gandolfini’s son in it playing the young Tony Soprano. It’s epic!

Gooseysgirl · 20/09/2022 22:12

God yes the Pine Barrens episode is just sublime 😄

netflixandnaps · 20/09/2022 22:15

@DenholmElliot1

Sky catchup :-)

I think my fave so far was when Tony got food poisoning and they killed off Pussy! I was on the edge waiting for him to get caught.

I have to agree with the comment about every character being perfectly cast... Paulie and Silvo are freaking amazing.

Really disliked the two blokes that tried to kill Christopher!

Love it! Watched it a few times all the way through! In between rewatching I also watched the reality series "mob wives", also great!

mackthepony · 20/09/2022 22:35

Yes it's up there.

Have you seen Pine Barrens yet? Season 3

My fave episode

CocaColaMocaMola · 20/09/2022 22:39

It’s my favourite show! The actors that play Christopher and Bobby have a podcast where they watch the show episode by episode and have a discussion about it. They have had pretty much all of the cast on the show, it’s brilliant. So insightful and laugh out loud funny at times!

KittyEmK · 20/09/2022 22:40

It gets better and better, you have so much to look forward to

Enjoy- and watch Nurse Jackie afterwards with the wonderful Carmella in a very different role.

God yes! Bloody brilliant

FluffingtonMuffington · 20/09/2022 22:41

Best. Series. Ever.

FluffingtonMuffington · 20/09/2022 22:44

I have a Carmella T shirt. I wear it with pride!

VanCleefArpels · 20/09/2022 22:47

Absolute highlight of lockdown for us. Absolute superlative television. Second the recommendation of Many Saints of Newark but wait till you have watched the whole of the Sopranos age you will get far more out if it

I was exactly the same ! Discovered it only last November and binged it so fast ! I can't fathom why I missed it but what a feast it was to enjoy

You're the only person I know who likes it, it was AWFUL! 😱

daisyjgrey · 20/09/2022 22:51

There's a book of essays on each episode which is worth a read, and if you do some digging I think the first however many episodes are based on Shakespeare plays.

It's one of the best tv shows ever written.

Ohnonevermind · 20/09/2022 22:51

I loved Tony’s mum Livia ! She was an amazing character in it

netflixandnaps · 20/09/2022 22:54

I was shocked when I read on IMDB that Livia was CGI'd for her last appearance. After I rewatched that episode it's very clear to see that she wasn't real and that they'd recycled her old lines, in fact, I could place where she'd said them.

It's brilliant but the end is ridiculously frustrating

jjeoreo · 20/09/2022 22:55

I need to watch this. My attention span is crap too so it needs to be GOOD for me to keep going. (On that note I also recommend the Americans). Am having a baby in Jan, planning to buy a massive TV a squishy sofa and sit there breastfeeding all day while my other kids are in school. This will be my first series to get started on!

netflixandnaps · 20/09/2022 22:55

@Ohnonevermind

My 23 year old son said I reminded him of Livia! When I first started watching it, I kinda got why he thought that... Grin

Ohnonevermind · 20/09/2022 22:56

they had planned to go a different direction but had to change it when the actress playing livia died. I wonder what the plan was.
