Prosecco during a funeral seems a really odd choice

DH's gran died aged 98. Her funeral was a celebration of her life rather than a sad thing. We had prosecco before and after that too.

Roast dinner - beef with homemade yorkies, horseradish sauce, cauliflower cheese, the works.

Lindy2 · 19/09/2022 11:55

I saw the recipe for the Queen's favourite chocolate digestive cake online the other day.

DD and I made it yesterday and have eaten some of it while watching the funeral.

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 19/09/2022 12:05

We had hot chocolate/tea and biscuits while watching the funeral.

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 19/09/2022 12:59

Mugs of tea and a slice of homemade fruit cake

🙄

I'm having mimosas and pancakes

  • because it's a friend's birthday
  • because we can have whatever tf we want
AMessageToYouRuby · 19/09/2022 13:05

Yes! DH did us a full English with Bloody Marys for the start of the funeral. Later we're having afternoon tea. I've done:

Coronation Chicken Sandwiches
Cucumber, Cream Cheese and Mint Sandwiches
Cherry Scones with clotted cream and morello cherry jam

Then I just bits from our local patisserie.

I think a lot of people are based on the absolute scrum for cucumbers and cake in M&S yesterday.

picklemewalnuts · 19/09/2022 13:12

I really wish I'd ordered an afternoon tea. I thought about it then forgot.
Nothing special here.

eddiemairswife · 19/09/2022 13:32

I have just decided to have a glass(or 2) of sherry.

OvernightBloats · 19/09/2022 13:36

@eddiemairswife Snap! I have just had a couple glasses of sherry

SunflowerSmith · 19/09/2022 13:38

Roast dinner with all the trimmings, it's like Christmas day here without the presents.
Lovely long dog walk with no other people in sight and kids in pj's watching films.

Whiskers4 · 19/09/2022 13:47

We've had quiche and salad as it was quick and easy. We had a bottle of prosecco in, so have made a toast to the Queen and our new King.

LadyWithLapdog · 19/09/2022 13:52

Bloody hell, the absolute carnage on here later on with all this boozing going on.

I made a pie with leftovers from a second fridge that I’m switching off to help with cost of living crisis. (A drop in the ocean, I know.)

womaninatightspot · 19/09/2022 13:56

We had afternoon tea for lunch. Cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches. Sausage rolls. Kids made cake and tiffin. Wish I had Prosecco but I find it shockingly hard to stop after a glass or two and would be pissed by two and hungover by five.

Always4Brenner · 19/09/2022 14:01

No not bothering now pasta thing for tea.

RampantIvy · 19/09/2022 14:02

No. It never occurred to me TBH. I have just looked in the fridge and seen some mushrooms that need using up so I will make something with them.

Nameless3 · 19/09/2022 14:03

No. Yesterdays left over mince and dumplings for dinner.

Celeryfavour · 19/09/2022 14:07

Yes, afternoon tea.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 19/09/2022 14:11

Just had afternoon tea ( for lunch)-

Salmon and cream cheese /egg mayonnaise sandwiches

Crisps and fruit platter

Lemon swiss roll, brownies and iced cupcakes

By God,I'm so full now!

Muddypaws20 · 19/09/2022 14:13

Had afternoon tea for lunch, little salmon and cream cheese sandwiches, homemade scones with jam and cream and we got the teapot out. Roast with all the trimmings and apple and blackberry crumble later!

LibertyLily · 19/09/2022 14:20

Yes...we had coronation chicken sandwiches and sausage rolls for lunch followed by M&S individual lemon cakes with a glass of wine to raise a toast to our late Queen and new King.

Later we're having fillet steak with peppercorn sauce and asparagus. We've got M&S gastropub sticky toffee puddings (and more wine!) too....

I remember having hot dogs (with fried sausages, onions and jacket potatoes) on the day of Diana's funeral.
