Anyone else who can’t go to see the Queen lying in state wish they could?

I’m in NI and the flights + a hotel would be far too expensive so I can’t unfortunately.

would have been nice to have gone and paid my respects though.

Me. Though for different reasons to you - I live just outside London, but the fact that I'm working, have a 1yr old and pregnant means I'm really not up for such a long queue. I'm glad she laid at rest for a time in Edinburgh though to give more people a chance to pay their respects.

UrsulaPandress · 14/09/2022 20:43

I’d love to but we have barely any trains from Manchester and I’m a bit crippled so would struggle to queue.

PlattyJubes · 14/09/2022 20:46

Yes would have really liked to go but am in deepest Cornwall and have a disability so would be pretty impossible for me unfortunately.

Ah it’s annoying isn’t it. I’m watching it all on tv from home but it would feel completely different to be there in person

Nearly £500 for a two way trip from Belfast to London and some hotels in central London were quoting me about £600 for just one night. It put me off right away.

Me. But the trains from Manchester are fucked at the moment and I have kids to look after (taking them with me def not an option) so sadly I cannot

a friend lucked out because the cortège came right past her house in dundee and she could literally just nip out for 2 minutes to pay her respects

Autumnwinterspringsummer · 14/09/2022 20:52

I'd love to be able to go.
Im happy the coverage is so good on tv so I can catch up every evening.

lollipoprainbow · 14/09/2022 20:56

Yeah I'd love to, but I have no one to go with ! I would have taken my mum but she is very poorly, my dd10 wouldn't queue for 30 mins let alone 30 hours! Quite envious of the people in the queues and all the camaraderie.

Snowiscold · 14/09/2022 21:00

I would go. I live in London but I have a full-time job. I can’t suddenly take a day, day and a half off, however long it might take.

Are the queues actually 30 hours?!? I thought it was maybe just the media exaggerating.

I thought you’d maybe be waiting like 3 or 4 hours?

I'm toying with the idea , however, mourners are literally spending SECONDS in front of her in state which makes me think are they being ushered along if you want to take it in and pay respects for as long as you need to .

I'm guessing a big fat NO as the crowds move very quickly.
Im a gazing / people watcher so would love to sit in a corner watching people pay respects and taking the time to reflect. It most certainly wouldn't be allowed

godmum56 · 14/09/2022 21:04

nope. I don't think filing past an embalmed body in a coffin is in any way respectful.

Maximum 10 miles I've been reading very frequent and the crowds move with no hesitation
How long is 30 Miles walking? I used to do 4 miles in 2 hours 🤷‍♀️

Beefilm · 14/09/2022 21:06

I'd like to, but can't because I need to be at work and then need to take my dc to university at the weekend, at the opposite end of the country! I wouldn't fancy queuing all day and night either. 2 or 3 hours would be as long as I would be prepared to queue. It's a shame though as I would like to experience properly such an historic occasion.

Gosh I don’t think I could queue for 30 hours.

How on earth do those people sleep while queuing or do they just stay awake all night?

Yes 2-3 hrs would be my limit too. I’d have loved to have done it but sure!

That link is great, thank you!

BeaLola · 14/09/2022 21:10

I would like to have paid my respects but am working daytime and I'm not sure if I went in the evening I would get in with say a 3-4 hour wait !

It's a shame the royal train wasn't used from Scotland to London as I think that would have given more people from all over country to pay their respects ?

OnTheRoll · 14/09/2022 21:12

I am in the queue right now. Getting close but honestly do not envy those who will be waiting in line tomorrow. It's looking much longer than what I will wait

How long have you been in the queue for so far?

OP posts:
OnTheRoll · 14/09/2022 21:15

asblind got the band at 7pm so 2 hours and have only 4 rows to go. I got lucky and got in when there were not that many people collecting the bands

Caspianberg · 14/09/2022 21:18

I wouldn’t want to queue for hours and hours for a 1 minute opportunity.

I think you can equally pay respects from afar, and if you want to watch on tv you will get much better updates and information

EarlofShrewsbury · 14/09/2022 21:19

The live tracker says the queue is currently 2.4 miles long. It was 2.6 miles an hour ago.

It depends how fast its moving but a very slow walk for 2.4 miles is probably around 3-4hrs.

Why not @godmum56 ? Genuinely interested. Why is the fact that she is embalmed significant?
