Does anyone else absolutely adore the rain?

I long for some rainy days right now.
For some reason I have adored rain from early childhood. I have always suffered from anxiety and the rain always decompressed me, makes me feel relaxed and at ease.
I even listen to rain sounds on YouTube each night before sleep.
It has felt like such a long, drawn out summer and don’t get me wrong, I hate winter but rain is a whole other situation for me it brings me so much contentment. I am not sure if it’s the drop in temperature and the freshness it brings, the melodic sound it’s makes or the visual aspect of falling rain.
I love the sound of the rain in my car, on the windows, the roof and especially on my conservatory. I am even happy out walking my dog in the rain (although not so much fun in the freezing winter!).
I would be happy right now if it were to rain all week.
People think I’m mad.
Does anyone else love the rain?

Move to Glasgow.

I absolutely love rain, walking in it, listening to it or just watching it. It is refreshing. Rain produces negative ions that help relieve stress, alleviate depression and even boost our energy. Not only rain enables an abundance of negative ions to be released but waterfalls, ocean waves and even dew and mist early in the morning. (see Google,) I enjoyed the hot heatwave but value the seasons we have in the UK.

I love the smell of the earth after rain too - petrichor.

Yes, me!!!

I listen to headspace and love the rainy sleep and sound casts.

I agree, the noise it makes is everything!

ilovesooty · 13/09/2022 08:06

No.

Solosunrise · 13/09/2022 08:06

You're not alone. I've always loved rain too. It rained here yesterday and it was glorious 😊I too played rain/thunderstorm sounds during the summer!
Not so thrilled about freezing sideways rain mind....

JoeyThePrawn · 13/09/2022 08:06

Yes , me too . I sleep much better listening to it. So calming

TroysMammy · 13/09/2022 08:14

Only proper rain, not drizzle or is it or is it not raining? I'd love a veranda looking out at lush greenery when it's chucking it down but it would have to be warm rain.

paisley256 · 13/09/2022 08:17

I love it especially the sound

BoviTraci · 13/09/2022 08:18

I love being in the cat while it hammers down . I love the sort of rain that batters against the window

JustlookingNotbuying · 13/09/2022 08:31

FayeGovan yeah, I suppose there is always too much of a good thing lol!
Zofloraqueen27 I love the smell after too.
TroysMammy I have always longed for a veranda too, sitting on a swing seat and watching a warm, constant rain over a big pond would be my dream relaxing situation.

You love being where ? Think it's a job the RSPCA.

riotlady · 13/09/2022 08:37

Like a pp I love proper heavy rain, but there’s something very depressing about relentless drizzle. Especially when it’s warm and humid and impossible to dress comfortably for!

Doublevodka · 13/09/2022 08:52

I do. People who love rain are called pluviophiles. I find rain comforting.

Bluevelvetsofa · 13/09/2022 09:13

No, no and no.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 13/09/2022 09:40

Yes! It lashed here on sunday and it was utter bliss. DH was calling it a 'miserable day' and I kept telling him it wasn't, it was a lovely indoors day and it was making the plants very happy. Rainy sundays are one of my very favourite things.

denvar · 13/09/2022 09:42

I love listening to the rain from inside but if I've just straightened my hair and then it rains on me I'm not so keen.

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 13/09/2022 09:43

No, I absolutely hate it. I grew up with horses so spent a lot of time out in the rain hating life. Now I have football obsessed boys and a dog so still spend lots of time out in the rain questioning my life choices.

LostPropertyBox · 13/09/2022 09:45

I hate it with a passion and generally try and stay indoors if it's raining. It's utterly depressing. I get annoyed with people who find the typical British summers too hot (I'm talking 25C, not the 35C we saw this year).

I love the U.K. but I'm clearly living in the wrong climate.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 13/09/2022 09:47

Ten year old DS loves rain, and also being cold 🤷‍♀️ When it rained briefly at night following the hot spell he shot out of bed and out into the garden he was so happy! Interesting that there's a name for it!

RoxieLoxy · 13/09/2022 09:50

Yes I love it too. Agree with all of your post OP. I especially love the sound of it on roof windows.

ginghamstarfish · 13/09/2022 10:59

Me too, just moved to Cumbria so just as well! My DH acts as if it was acid pouring from the skies, such is his reluctance to go out in rain.

JustlookingNotbuying · 13/09/2022 11:29

Well I am glad it’s not just me and good to know there is an actual name for it so there must be many of us out there secretly at ease on a rainy day. Do agree with drizzle though, that’s just plain horrible.
I really do want to enjoy the summer LostPropertyBox and love early summer and September but I have IBS and for some weird reason if the temperature goes anything above 22 (ish) it absolutely wrecks my digestive system but cooler and damp weather calms it. Yes, I’m strange lol!

Move to Scotland you’ll have so much more joy rain in your life ☔️ ☔️

Havehope21 · 13/09/2022 11:47

I love snuggling up of the sofa whilst it pours outside - so cosy and soothing. I am definitely and autumn/winter person!
