Does anyone else absolutely adore the rain?

I long for some rainy days right now.
For some reason I have adored rain from early childhood. I have always suffered from anxiety and the rain always decompressed me, makes me feel relaxed and at ease.
I even listen to rain sounds on YouTube each night before sleep.
It has felt like such a long, drawn out summer and don’t get me wrong, I hate winter but rain is a whole other situation for me it brings me so much contentment. I am not sure if it’s the drop in temperature and the freshness it brings, the melodic sound it’s makes or the visual aspect of falling rain.
I love the sound of the rain in my car, on the windows, the roof and especially on my conservatory. I am even happy out walking my dog in the rain (although not so much fun in the freezing winter!).
I would be happy right now if it were to rain all week.
People think I’m mad.
Does anyone else love the rain?

I do. Although I don’t always enjoy walking in it (have to be in the right mood for that).

But watching, listening, and enjoying it from a cosy place indoors? Love it. Often have the windows open when it’s raining (we only ever close our upstairs windows if it’s stormy) and it’s a wonderful feeling, being warm and cosy inside whilst listening to rainfall. My DH finds a rainy day very depressing and spends the whole time moaning and whingeing about what a miserable day it is, whereas I really do find it relaxing and comforting.

I love sunshine and hot weather too, though.

NiqueNique · 13/09/2022 11:54

Interestingly I also suffer with anxiety and find rainfall very comforting.

DevaleraSpawnOfSatan · 13/09/2022 11:57

I love lying in bed, knowing that I am safe and warm and listening to it, then I think of homeless people and feel guilty.

I agree and said to my husband how happy I was at the weekend when we were tucked up indoors whilst it chucked it down.
I hate hot weather and the light nights so I am so glad Autumn is setting in.
However nothing beats being warm and cosy indoors and watching heavy snow fall. Absolute bliss!

Me too - check out my username! I especially love rain on a summer's day. Always makes me feel unexpectedly happy. Didn't know there was a name for it!

MetalScrews · 13/09/2022 12:38

My mum loved the rain! If we were ever out in the car and it started to rain, she liked to sit in the car and just watch it. She said it made her feel secure (though no idea why).

She died suddenly last year so now whenever it rains heavily, I have instant happy memories of my mum.

Move to Scotland you’ll have so much more joy rain in your life ☔️ ☔️

Yes! I stupidly moved away from Scotland, way down south, and I miss the climate every day.

Being in a tent at night in the rain is gorgeous. I've found my people...

That's really lovely.

My favourite day on holiday in Wales this summer, was when it suddenly poured down just as we arrived at a quiet beach. We had a cup of tea in the car and watched the beach through the rainstorm. Hygge heaven...

Somethingsnappy · 13/09/2022 13:39

@MetalScrews. I meant the instant happy memories of your mum is lovely. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I do, but not if wearing unsuitable footwear! I love listening to outside (when I am inside) and can mostly be ok at being caught out in it, but I hate 'tropical rain', It must be cold! Had warm rain here and in Vietnam - no, just not right!

LadyEloise1 · 15/09/2022 23:59

No.
If I could afford it I'd move to a less rainy area.

I hate it with a passion and generally try and stay indoors if it's raining. It's utterly depressing. I get annoyed with people who find the typical British summers too hot (I'm talking 25C, not the 35C we saw this year).

I love the U.K. but I'm clearly living in the wrong climate.

The solution is to go out in the rain, then you won’t be so depressed. Wear a raincoat; umbrellas kind of defeat the purpose of going out in the rain.

Like a pp I love proper heavy rain, but there’s something very depressing about relentless drizzle. Especially when it’s warm and humid and impossible to dress comfortably for!

How’s that worse than warm and humid without drizzle?

How ironic? As tropical animals, we humans are only designed for warm rain not cold rain.

I go to bed early if it's raining, I love the sound of rain on the window - it has a really calming effect.

I think it's some repressed memory from childhood, I have the image of a rainy Saturday afternoon, just me and my dad at home. He is sat at dining table, specs on the end of his nose, fag in hand, half reading his paper and half watching the football on telly. It's pouring down outside and I feel warm and protected. The rain always takes me back there.
I also love walking in the rain - there is nothing better than the sound of rain bouncing off a brolly.

Because most of my stuff that keeps me dry makes me warm

TerfTalking · 12/01/2024 07:49

Yes I do. I love hearing it on the velux windows, I love how clean the pavements are after, the smell of the garden after rain, walking in it, watching the reservoir reserves replenish, watching storms. In fact summer storms are a thing of beauty.

My adult DC still remember the summer downpour where, as primary age children, we got out of the car on the drive and danced in the puddles and got absolutely soaked to the skin, they loved it. Then we stripped off at the doorway and had hot showers and clean pyjamas.

Theoldwoman · 12/01/2024 07:51

Yes, me.
Then again we live in a very hot, dry part of Australia.

WhatNoRaisins · 12/01/2024 07:53

Mixed, I do really like being inside listening to it. I don't really mind if it's just me having to put on a coat and boots and go out in it.

As a mum of young kids who need to get out and burn off energy I really hate the times when the parks are too wet and boggy to use.

Wacadu · 12/01/2024 07:59

I do but only proper rain, not drizzle.

My kids are the same and when they were younger we'd all go into the garden and get soaked. They'd lie down and get rained on. Then it would be warm showers and dry clothes afterwards. They still love rain now and none of us own a brolly.

HarpyRampant · 12/01/2024 08:01

I only realised how much I liked it when I moved to the ME, where I hated the unrelenting hot dryness, lack of seasons etc. I still remember landing back in London on a wet September Friday evening, and appreciating the reflections, the soft night, the lights reflecting on puddles. It’s left me with a lasting appreciate of soft weather.

dressedforcomfort · 12/01/2024 08:01

I love summer rain. There's something wonderful about the coolness of the air after summer rain.

The relentless grey gloom of winter rain is miserable to be honest.

Emily1583 · 12/01/2024 08:02

Rain on a window at night is quite soothing.

Misty rain on a summer's day is quite refreshing.

However horizontally wind blown fat rain on a cold January morning is most definitely not something I adore.

JustlookingNotbuying · 12/01/2024 08:45

I listen to rain sounds on YouTube every night to help me drop off, it’s so soothing.
