Does anyone else absolutely adore the rain?

I long for some rainy days right now.
For some reason I have adored rain from early childhood. I have always suffered from anxiety and the rain always decompressed me, makes me feel relaxed and at ease.
I even listen to rain sounds on YouTube each night before sleep.
It has felt like such a long, drawn out summer and don’t get me wrong, I hate winter but rain is a whole other situation for me it brings me so much contentment. I am not sure if it’s the drop in temperature and the freshness it brings, the melodic sound it’s makes or the visual aspect of falling rain.
I love the sound of the rain in my car, on the windows, the roof and especially on my conservatory. I am even happy out walking my dog in the rain (although not so much fun in the freezing winter!).
I would be happy right now if it were to rain all week.
People think I’m mad.
Does anyone else love the rain?

Love it - listening and watching. So relaxing and cosy. Rain casts are fab. Even better if it's really windy too. Seasons aren't what they were but still different enough. I Like the sun but dislike the long, often unbearably hot summers we have, like last year. Hoping for watm, sunny days this year. Lots of rain first!

I don't mind the rain at all - and love being inside while it's hammering it down outside.

But dog walking through mud is almost the most depressing thing - only beaten by then seeing the state of the house in the winter when the carpets and floors get dirtier and dirtier, despite all efforts to prevent it.

Dry ground walking is so much cleaner!

Because most of my stuff that keeps me dry makes me warm

The solution is to get wet. The point of staying dry is to keep warm. If you’re already warm, you might as well get wet. Also how wet does drizzle make you?

Like the OP, I listen to rain, wind and sea sounds on YT to fall asleep to. Never slept so soundly - water has powerful soothing/calming properties.

It does, I can completely shut everything out when I’m listening to the rain.

I mean I love the sound of rain from inside but I don’t love getting wet, the house getting muddy from everyone and the cats bringing in mud, or the massive puddles on the roads, or the cellar that gets flooded then pumps out all the water by the back door so the cats get soggy every time they go out.

the sound of rain beating down is lovely though!

I love watching and listening to the rain, while reading. But not when it's all the bloody time like it is at the moment, because I also like to do outdoor things without getting soaking wet, sit out in the sunshine (with layers in winter) etc.. variety is the spice of life!

I find being wet uncomfortable, you’re being weirdly argumentative about drizzle

Emily1583 · 12/01/2024 14:34

I'll have to try and remember the YouTube rain sounds next time I'm having trouble getting to sleep.

That sounds like a you problem. With that attitude, there’s no helping you. Just enjoy using an umbrella and/or staying indoors instead of feeling depressed.

Other than listening to the sound of it falling on the roof at night, the answer is no. I'm an autumn person through and through, but fortunately in NZ autumn does not mean lots of rain!! Of course I like rain now and again, but absolutely adore it - hell no. (written on a hot summer day with the grass turned brown).

Yes! It lashed here on sunday and it was utter bliss. DH was calling it a 'miserable day' and I kept telling him it wasn't, it was a lovely indoors day and it was making the plants very happy. Rainy sundays are one of my very favourite things.

You should have told him it was a lovely outdoors day, especially since it made the plants happy outdoors not indoors. Perhaps spending Sundays indoors was a dealbreaker for him, you should have told him he could do outdoor activities in the rain.

I’ve enjoyed reading this thread. I do often listen to rain sounds before sleeping and I definitely prefer rain to wind. I don’t like the angry rain that smashes against the window and keep you awake but that’s probably the wind to blame. I don’t like it when there’s so much rain it starts to flood but there is something safe and calming about the rain when it’s just right.

I do, very much.
