What a woman, she is 72 years old !! I can’t believe how amazing she has been in the last few days.

I always knew she was the most hardworking royal , but this week she has been outstanding.

She's probably the least worse of them, and performs her duties satisfactorily. But I think that's largely down to the very low bar we have for the RF in general. They really only have to smile and refrain from rude obnoxious behaviour for us to think well of them.
I was at an event with her. She did indeed smile and was pleasant. She gave a nice speech and had some little chats with women who had achieved incredible things. She looked interested, as well she should.
But when you consider the amount of time expense and attention that had gone into managing every aspect of her comfort, and catering for her every need on that visit, plus the enormous financial reward she receives for her work, surely for her to be polite and personable is the least we should expect?

miserablecat · 13/09/2022 23:39

The statement from her was beautiful.

I also thought how exhausting it must be for both her and Charles and Camilla, that from the next morning after the Queen died they were expected to be on show, travelling here there and everywhere and, in Charles case making speeches and meeting with dignitaries.

I haven't RTFT but I gather it was the Queens own wishes to have Anne by her side, but I guess the fact that she died at Balmoral has added a further layer of complexity (obviously plans had been made for that eventuality) and quite a bit more travelling.

So please that this was such a positive thread !!

She is an amazing woman. HMQ and PP must have been so proud of her.
She's been amazing for HMQ and will be for Charles too.

Can I just say tonight at the RAF base I noticed how slender her legs are.

CherryGenoa · 14/09/2022 01:06

She seems to have more integrity than most, but I can’t get past Andrew.. the monarchy need to go.

Autumn61 · 14/09/2022 06:53

Totally agree, to be completely honest I’m the polar opposite of a Royalist ,but if I had a choice it would be the no nonsense, independent woman who works her arse off years after the retirement date..

This is a gorgeous photo.

Wow, doesn’t she look like the Queen.

2catsandhappy · 14/09/2022 17:40

I am a Royalist. Didn't shed a tear when I read the Queen had died. More, ah well, she had a long life and she is with Prince Philip now.
But when I saw Princess Anne's stricken face, that raw emotion, I had a lump in my throat and tears just fell.
'A son is a son until he takes a wife, but a daughter is a daughter all of your life.' Not in any way suggesting that King Charles or Prince Andrew or Prince Edward are not going through hell right now, but there is just something about Princess Anne that is really affecting me emotionally.

ajandjjmum · 14/09/2022 18:03

When she curtsied to her Mum as she entered Holyrood - and again at Northolt - that did it for me!

And Tim Lawrence looks like an amazing support - quiet, not attention seeking, just there.

Anne fan here too
MiL has met her a few times - she is heavily involved in Gloucestershire WI - and speaks very highly of how down to Earth she is.

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads
I wonder if I know your MiL! I also met Princess Anne at the Gloucestershire's WI Annual Meeting in the spring. She was VERY impressive and all of us who met her came away as fans.

Women have been able to serve in the army since 1938 and combat roles since 2018. The WRNS was formed in 1917 and the WRAF in 1918.

Does amuse me all this 'women didn't do this/couldn't do this 50 years ago' when there are lots of us around who actually were doing it.

But a woman's career was limited. She would not get a top post and if she wanted children she had to resign.

Exactly this. She does come across as a nice woman but only because the rest of them don't impress us that much. As for hard working...we shouldn't mistake hard work with being active. She does quite a lot of engagements but the hard work of arranging it falls on others. I'd say a lot of the stuff she does is enjoyable and what the rest of us might have to pay to do.. She won't have housework and meals to cook when she gets home either

Floralei · 15/09/2022 15:07

Anne almost certainly has a cleaner but I doubt she has a chef. More a ready meal type, I imagine! She doesn’t look like she cares about food at all and she doesn’t drink.

Dinoteeth · 15/09/2022 15:49

I'd think she'd have some sort of kitchen staff, to keep the house stocked up, let's face it she isn't going round Tesco with her trolley.

Dinoteeth · 15/09/2022 15:51

Which gets me thinking would someone like Beatrice or Zara be doing their own shopping?

Fizbosshoes · 15/09/2022 16:00

I'm pretty sure there have been pics in the paperwork, of Kate, (now Princess of Wales) shopping in Waitrose, when they lived in Anglesey and a friend who works in a shop in Central London has seen her in there, shopping (with security)

Fizbosshoes · 15/09/2022 16:01

Paperwork = papers!

ClaudiaNaughton · 15/09/2022 16:09

Charles is having some (well deserved) time out today at Highgrove. Anne is on the move again visiting Glasgow and the Borders.

There was an article not long ago about what she eats. You are right, she's not really interested in food.

Apparently she gives visitors a choc ice for dessert because then they can eat it on their way home!

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 15/09/2022 17:27

Though she's partial to a fray bentos pie apparently too

Hahaha 😆 the only frey bento pie 🥧 I've ever eaten was quite literally inherited from an elderly uncle!

Dave20 · 15/09/2022 21:25

Does Anne and Tim have protection then? Guards outside the house? And Zara and and Peter? Do they have staff? And security staff for their every move ?

Dave20 · 15/09/2022 21:27

What about Andrew? Who does his shopping? Where does he go or what does he do all
day? Does someone go to Waitrose for him or do they get it delivered for him ? ! Does he live alone?

Dinoteeth · 15/09/2022 23:35

@Dave20 Haven't a clue about his shopping habits.
But he lives with his ex wife Fergie. An odd arrangement but it seems to suit them.

Oh, didn’t know they still lived together. I wonder why?
