What a woman, she is 72 years old !! I can’t believe how amazing she has been in the last few days.

I always knew she was the most hardworking royal , but this week she has been outstanding.

I love the fact that she wears clothes that she has had for more than 40 years. I think it sends a message of being frugal, but I also suspect that it's her small vanity to let people know: "See, I can still get into something I first wore when I was young." Good for her, I say.

Who cares about that...
@ let people know: "See, I can still get into something I first wore when I was young."

So pleased she broke with tradition at the Prince’s vigil and took her place there. I have always liked Anne, no nonsense, no royal titles for her grandchildren, I love her grandchildren, they are all so free spirited and look like they are always having fun, dressed in leggings / T-shirts etc. Must be incredibly tough for all of them right now, no matter how old your mother was, losing her is always tough. Especially with the eyes of the world on you

Her grandchildren can’t have royal titles… traditionally only fathers can pass on royal titles.

OriginalUsername3 · 13/09/2022 20:52

I'd much prefer her than Charles. And I'm proud she took her rightful place at the "Princes" vigil.

Well traditionally the males are first in line to the throne regardless of order of birth. The queen changed that when Charlotte was born so surely she could have given Anne's children titles if they all wanted them

Backtoblack1 · 13/09/2022 21:05

She hasn’t left her mother’s side. Very touching x

Imissmoominmama · 13/09/2022 21:05

She’s brilliant. My favourite definitely.

Theskyoutsideisblue · 13/09/2022 21:10

@LoveHamble but why did she choose Anne

THEDEACON · 13/09/2022 21:16

I've always liked Princess Anne She's awesome

Dinoteeth · 13/09/2022 21:16

Just my guess did she maybe choose Ann as next eldest, Knowing Charles would be busy visiting the countries of the UK?

The Queen didn’t unilaterally change the primogeniture rule. That was all in progress to happen before George was born. Charlotte is just the highest profile female not to be pushed down by a younger brother.

It was changed wef 28 October 2011, in the Succession to the Crown Act 2013 (not retrospective legislation, the then PM announced it (on behalf of Her Maj) with the law following, though only fully ratified by all realms in 2015)

All done before any of the Cambridge DC were born, just to be on the sae side.

And yes, the Queen can ennoble anyone she wishes and some titles are on her say-so only (though main Honours List are done hand in glove with the Govt)

But they had no titles to use when born as none were available to them (because their father declined a title for himself). And clearly none have been conferred since

Twizbe · 13/09/2022 21:32

@EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall her first husband was offered a title when they married but he declined it.

Anne can't pass on hers as she's the female line so they would only have got one from their father.

I think as they aged they just didn't want one. The Queen could well have offered them something on their marriages but they said no.

I'm not sure she could. Only male-line grandchildren get to be Prince and Princesses, I believe. Wasn't there some complication with Harry's children being great-grandchildren and Harry not being a direct heir (and so not able to be HRH until last week)?
That said, I am fairly sure if the Queen wanted to, she could have issued letters patent to make it happen. But Anne is too sensible and probably realised it's all made up nonsense anyway!

Dinoteeth · 13/09/2022 21:55

What would be the point in Harry's kids having HRH?
They are low down the packing order the same as the York girls, and the Philips they will have make their own living. It's probably easier to live in the real world without being superior to your boss.

I think that's one reason Lady Louise hasn't taken hers up.

She is entitled to be HRH Princess but her parents decided not to use it for her. Now she's 18 it's her decision but so far hasn't done so.

I completely agree, but as grandchildren of the monarch now, they are now I think automatically/technically HRH. They may of course decline to use them like Edward and Sophie have for their children.

derxa · 13/09/2022 22:09

I know this is shallow but Tim Laurence is an extremely handsome man.

Whoops1 · 13/09/2022 22:15

I just remember being so excited when she got married and trying to design a dress she might wear! Then I believe I remember our delightful press slagging her off - I think about the time Diana appeared on the scene and I think maybe they tried to create a rivalry? I think they said she was fuddy duddy , dreadful hair do etc. then for some reason she was suddenly in favour again. So manipulative. The press.

ChagSameachDoreen · 13/09/2022 22:26

Her brothers are pathetic little men. Anne is proper queen material.

travellingfamily · 13/09/2022 22:27

It is clear now that Harry’s children are ‘low down the pecking order’ but the rules are drawn up for the ‘general’ rather than ‘particular’ circumstance. If Harry had had children first, but after the Queen had died, the child would have been 3rd in line to the throne at birth.
Having said that, they were changed for Prince Charles’s birth I think because he was second in line at his birth, but as the son of a daughter of the monarch, not automatically entitled to HRH.

They were also changed for the (then) Cambridge DC.

This was because male primogeniture had ended but the existing Letters Patent did not cover that. They provided only for the eldest son of the grandchild of the monarch in direct line of succession (ie William's eldest son) would be styled HRH Prince.

But now the eldest son would not necessarily be the next heir - which would lead to the anomaly (if Charlotte had been born first) that she would have been direct heir styled 'plain' Lady Charlotte, whereas her younger brother, further down the succession would be HRH Prince George.

So they changed them They could have decided, I suppose, that it would be that the eldest child would be HRH Prince or Princess, but they chose to have the same form for all DC of the grandchild in the direct line

BoffinMum · 13/09/2022 22:41

I think we should have changed the succession rules so it went down the eldest female line. So Anne, then Zara, and so on. Much better, This country always does really well when it has Queens.

Nomorefuckstogive · 13/09/2022 22:42

Strong woman. I like her too.

I'm not sure Mary I was a roaring success 😂(lighthearted!).
We're 50:50 on the Charles outcomes too. Anne and Zara would both be great though.

I still find it very interesting that the Queen didn’t actually change the 1917 Letters Patent.

She simply issued LP’s for Prince William’s children.

So when they start talking about george having a family the potential issue is still there.
