There was a chap at the 2nd proclamation today wearing such an outfit.
My dad, a history buff, is stumped and won't be able to sleep tonight give it now transpires he doesn't know EVERYTHING!
Is it a religious leader? Or some sort of court judge?
Can anyone help him?
Thanks

Sorry don't know but intrigued! My first thought was some sort of religious leader - the colours seem to match certain C of E schemes I'm sure I've seen before.

ilovepixie · 10/09/2022 21:04

A bishop?

MarmiteCoriander · 10/09/2022 21:04

Isn't he a clergy of some sort?

DoAllMyOwnStunts · 10/09/2022 21:06

I wonder if his wife is on here and can assist!

I think it’s a Monsignor? They have them in the Catholic Church not sure in C of E

Narcheska · 10/09/2022 21:06

Pretty sure he’s a member of the clergy

DoAllMyOwnStunts · 10/09/2022 21:07

@Oinkypig I think you have it!
Google image bring up same sort of outfit.
Thanks!

Definitely something religious

picklemewalnuts · 10/09/2022 21:08

Catholic bishop of some sort, I think.

OrangeSmartiesTasteDifferent · 10/09/2022 21:10

Monsignor?

HelloMrBond · 10/09/2022 21:10

A RC Bishop

yoshiblue · 10/09/2022 21:11

Clergy but C of E not Catholic. Charles is Head of Church of England!

TeacupDrama · 10/09/2022 21:13

I think it might be Vincent Nichols the catholic archbishop of westminister and london

seething1234 · 10/09/2022 21:14

Catholic Monsignor

Oinkypig · 10/09/2022 21:14

@DoAllMyOwnStunts I’m ridiculously pleased I got in first with the answer 😂

Littlebelina · 10/09/2022 21:15

I think it might be David Hoyle, Dean of Westminster which would make sense (as apparently answers to the Crown). It's highly unlikely to be Catholic minister given the situation

TeacupDrama · 10/09/2022 21:17

actually the face does look more like David Hoyle than vincent but anglicans tend to wear red more than purple

Turtletortle · 10/09/2022 21:17

Monsignor James Curry from Our Lady of Victories RC church in Kensington. Wearing a bishops cassock.

I doubt it!

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/09/2022 21:18

I want to know who the chap in the long black robes, wearing a fur Russian-type hat and carrying a sword is.

notprincehamlet · 10/09/2022 21:23

The chap on the left looks like d'Artagnan Confused

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 10/09/2022 21:24

Apparently he is the Lord Mayor's Chaplain, Monsignor Jim Curry

DoAllMyOwnStunts · 10/09/2022 21:26

Thanks for all this info, I knew you wouldn't let me down!
Assuming he is indeed Catholic, then I am further intruiged - what is his role, esp as the Proclamation stuff said about upholding the Protestant religion?

Littlebelina · 10/09/2022 21:37

James Curry does look a better facial fit and makes sense since he is Lord Mayor Chaplin but must be a bit weird as a Catholic to be involved in proclamation of head of CofE. Also weird in how hard it is to find a source to confirm!

SquirmOfEels · 10/09/2022 21:43

King Charles has just assumed the title of "defender of the Faith" which is an RC title conferred by the Pope (pre-Reformation)

So I think having their representatives in procession makes sense - there are lots of representatives of other faiths participating in various elements of the many ceremonies too)

The others in the procession will be representatives of the City of London probably the various Guilds and Orders.

The Sword looks a lot like one from the Order of St John, but I'm not totally sure
