Weird noise from neighbours empty house...

EllieRosesMammy · 09/09/2022 20:48

So a bit of backstory, we live in a "rough" area & I haven't seen my neighbour in over a month (6 weeks ago is when our cctv last saw her) which was also the same time someone spray painted the word "grass" on her window. I know she's involved in drugs, as most people round here are, so we assumed she had told on the local dealer and been ran out of her house. We mentioned it to the housing officer of our housing association the other day that we hadn't seen her in a while and we were concerned and she didn't know anything about it. And now in the last couple of days there's been a weird noise coming from her house - sounds like an old printer that's ran out of ink on repeat, but only at certain times of the day, and now it's a continuous humming sound like a hair dryer. I'm 100% certain she is not in that house, what the hell could the noise be?! And should I ring the non emergency police number or would they just tell me to contact the local council?

Could it be a heater if they are growing cannabis? Something like that.

FrazzleDazz · 09/09/2022 20:52

If you are worried for her safety, the police will do a welfare check. As for activity going on the in house, have you seen any comings and going's on the cctv?

YesitsBess · 09/09/2022 20:53

Someone growing drugs and using a fan heater?

or

Photocopier ghost.

Contact the Council in the first instance. Actually as it’s a weekend call in a welfare check with 111?

5zeds · 09/09/2022 20:53

I’d call the police and explain your concerns.

EllieRosesMammy · 09/09/2022 20:57

Yep the printer sounding noise growing drugs was our guess too! I believe it's the house next door but one who are the dealers, our theory was that they've ran her out of her house so they can use it to grow in 🤦‍♀️

Absolutely nothing on the cctv of her from the last 6 weeks and no one to and from the house! It's like she left in the middle of the night too, half the curtains are ripped down and they haven't moved position in 6 weeks

Just call the police and get them to check. Why wouldn’t you?

oakleaffy · 09/09/2022 21:03

Weed farm. Fans and ventilation? But they would need looking after, Often there is a person kept as a 'Slave' {Modern slavery } to look after them who aren't allowed to leave the premises.

twoandcooplease · 09/09/2022 21:10

Your exact theory is what happened in my MILs quiet little culdesac. You could well be right

The neighbours had the involved the HA prior to this so they sort of expected the reports

Hellocatshome · 09/09/2022 21:17

Tell the neighbours you are concerned fkr her safety they will come and do a welfare check i.e break the door down if there is no answer. Dont tell them you think she has moved out and there is a cannabis farm in there as that probably won't lead to much action. I reported a cannabis farm, I had photographic evidence, they did nothing.

Hellocatshome · 09/09/2022 21:17

Tell the police obviously not the neighbours 🙄

Oh don't say that 😭 I've just rechecked the footage and there's nothing of her leaving the property, just the last day she went in there, I really hope that's not the case :(

Yeah I think that's our plan. I've panicked a few times thinking oh my god what if she's dead in there, but I honestly don't think she would be as she has family and friends round here who would of already had the police round if she was genuinely missing.

This is very worrying. The police will do a welfare check. But as PP has said, I wouldn't mention the criminal activity. Just that you haven't seen her and are concerned for her safety.

Did you cctv pick up her last leaving? Did they have a bag or anything with them ?

Nope the last thing it picked up was her and her children playing in the front garden that afternoon. And then 2 days later it picked up two teenagers going in to her house (I think they're related to her somehow, possibly neices or sisters I've seen them come and go before) and then absolutely nothing since then :|

But in the day between the two incidents there was some sort of drama going on with next door but one, the guy that lives there that I'm sure is a dealer had done something ti upset his mum (who lives directly opposite over the road) and she was stood at the garden gate talking to his girlfriend about how she "can't cope with him anymore and he's going to end up dead"

Oh god I missed the bit of her having 2 children. I would say that's even more reason to call the police asap.

I'm assuming you haven't seen them either ?

Nope haven't seen them but this is why I'm thinking she must be okay, because she has a sister that lives down the road, and her mam lives by too. And surely if she was actually missing then one of them would of noticed by now 😬

Tell the police you haven’t seen her leave the house on your cctv, they will come by to check. I don’t mean to alarm you but at my old house we heard a similar noise and it turned out the lady had committed suicide. I hope that’s not the case here but it’s worth ruling out, I’m sure she’d be grateful someone is looking out for her.

Oh my god, what on earth was making the noise?!

My first guess was its the boiler but my partner thinks it's someone growing drugs :|

Call the police to do a welfare check OP, at least you’ll rest knowing what’s up.

YesitsBess · 09/09/2022 22:38

The old lady had committed suicide and subsequently started making the noise of a hairdryer? Give over.

The amount of people on this thread trying to create a livestream drama is insane. Welfare check is sufficient, she’s clearly gone as are her kids.

Agadoodoododont · 09/09/2022 22:41

Is the house of the “ suspected” drug dealer joined to the house of missing lady? Thinking they could have taken over her house for drug growing and accessing it via the loft/ roof space or even knocked through the wall.

TempNameChangexx · 09/09/2022 22:45

Just call 101 and talk to the police - stop faffing around.

Turn the situation around - if this was you and your children, would you want your neighbour to be concerned enough to actually take action?
I would!

Frances0911 · 09/09/2022 22:47

If she has children have they been away for school holidays, and just not back yet?

Yep they're terraced houses and this was our thinking too, or he's just straight up broke in through the back door
