My brother said they were told early, doesn’t make sense?

They find out before we do, for sure. There’s a protocol to follow.
If Lady Colin Campbell is to be believed (I can’t bring myself to take much of what she usually says with more than a pinch of salt!) she died at 14:37 this afternoon, according to a YouTube video she released hours before we all found out.

If by "they" you mean all government employees, no they definitely don't.

Only those who need to know for protocol / preparation reasons would be told. That will include some government employees in specific roles, but not all of them.

Entertainingandfactual, looking at my emails it was...12:47.

That's interesting... I do think she passed away around midday. A few hours later family arrived at Balmoral. It wouldn't shock me to learn that she just didn't wake up from a late morning nap. I hope that is what happened. Best way to go is to just drift away.

Huw Edwards - BBC Newsreader was wearing a black tie, when announcing the Queen was unwell and family were arriving at Balmoral. This was a number of hours before he reported later she had died!

I said in work he knows something. He kept choking back tears bless him. They were all wearing black.
I heard on the rumour mill from a friend who friend works at the palace they she died around 2/3 pm, they were trying to get the family there ASAP.

sunglassesonthetable · 08/09/2022 23:05

Most people can be told when everyone else finds out. this nonsense that ‘my cousins brother found out’ is crap because the risk of it getting out is too high.

How do you think all the people at TV stations get the rescheduling done and get the content in place and all the technicians get stuff in order?

How did the National Anthem play after Huw made the announcement?

What is the risk of 'it' getting out? We were literally talking hours between 1st statements and announcement.

ReluctantCourier · 08/09/2022 23:05

Would H.E cry?! Doesn’t strike me as a huge royalist…

An entire government building was cleared late this morning. No mean feat due to what that building is.

We didn't know why, we just had to deal with a very odd situation.

Now it's bloody obvious.

What purpose would clearing a government building have today?

What are you suggesting they’re doing/planning to do with the building, is it still cleared?

bottleofbeer · 08/09/2022 23:06

I think she died around noon.

I agree... that is how I would hope to go. Better to die swiftly and as painlessly as possible than to linger on past the point of being able to appreciate and enjoy life.

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 08/09/2022 23:07

It can't have been imminent because surely all the family would want to be there? It seems like they didnt make it in time..
Only Charles/maybe.

bellac11 · 08/09/2022 23:08

I hope she died in her sleep too, or at least had a huge dose of someething to send her on her way, didnt they do that with her grandad?

Or a quick heart attack, mind you wouldnt that have necessitated her going to hospital?

Good point. Clearly they couldn't tell it was coming.

bottleofbeer · 08/09/2022 23:02

That's interesting.

There would have been a delay in emails while staff were being told that the building needed to be cleared.

Nothing stays secret.

I’m struggling to understand why a building being cleared could be relevant? I’m assuming this is a London building?

Can you really not imagine what they might need to clear space for?

She's going to lie in state - that will be in a building. There are likely to be books of remembrance - that'll need to go somewhere too. And the logistics of getting the funeral ready will likely require space for storage preparations etc.

Plenty of other things as well, I'm sure.

bottleofbeer · 08/09/2022 23:09

Hotandbothereds?

Protocol probably.

I'm genuinely not trying to be mysterious but I can't say what kind of government building. I'm not fkn important to the whole machine but I happen to work there.

There was just a flurry of emails where we had to move people out of a building and it was problematic. But we had absolutely no information why we had to do it.

Novum · 08/09/2022 23:10

When I saw my son at around 4 he said a friend had told him that police leave had been cancelled. Any police around who can confirm that? I suppose it could well have been based on an informed guess rather than actual hard information.

bottleofbeer · 08/09/2022 23:10

No, not London. Probably something you wouldn't even consider. I wouldn't have.

No, someone aged 96 would normally be resuscitated from a heart attack. They would be too frail, and it would be cruel.

I know its ridiculous, unless its Westminster Abbey!!!

But if its a bog standard government building, what are they going to do with that, use it for storing the coffin or something, hardly!

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 08/09/2022 23:12

It must have been something suddenly

ReluctantCourier · 08/09/2022 23:13

She may have had a DNR

miserablecat · 08/09/2022 23:14

On a different thread 99% of MN in high up jobs "knew" she died at 3.27pm....Confused

sunglassesonthetable · 08/09/2022 23:14

*And apparently he was officially told around the same time as the PM? Despite him not needing to know at all. And first thing he did was text you to tell you. Even though any official communication would have been confidential.

I find this sort of thing quite funny, personally.*

No idea if the first thing he did was Wapp. But believe me he wouldn't be that bothered anyway.

Don't know why you presume it was confidential or even why he wouldn't break that if it was.

Don't know why you're sure you know when Liz Truss found out.

Don't know why you think you should know who told him.

Don't know why you're so bothered tbh?
You really don't have to be believe me. 😀

bottleofbeer · 08/09/2022 23:15

Not Westminster Abbey 😁

Not even close. Hundreds of miles away.

The Queen was the Head of lots of organisations. Think the justice system.

lovescats3 · 08/09/2022 23:16

What time did BBC go to rolling news? When did huw Edwards appear wearing all black ?

I think she died around noon.

I agree, I came back from lunch to be told that they thought she had died
