Just watching BBC1, I think it looks like NW is going to cry.
I know the RF (Charles particularly) don't like him, but he's followed the late Queen for years and must be feeling upset.

Very sad. So hard to report this type of news.

Is his big day. Must be bloody weird because presumably he has practised many times.

velvetblanket · 08/09/2022 19:46

Huw Edwards was certainly filling up whilst making the announcement. A difficult job.

AtomicBlondeRose · 08/09/2022 19:48

I felt for Huw Edwards. Witchell is the worst kind of parasite though.

IDespairOfTheHumanRace · 08/09/2022 19:48

Because he is an odious sycophant who, because he is disliked by Charles, will probably lose his gig as a royal correspondant.

Reallyreallyborednow · 08/09/2022 19:49

I don’t get why they still keep dragging him out, or why he’s kept that job for so many years when it was clear the RF disliked him so much.

why would you even want to put yourself in that position. He’s probably the last person the queen would have wanted holding forth about her life and death.

Stopsnowing · 08/09/2022 19:50

Why all the hate?

LimeTreeGrove · 08/09/2022 19:51

There was no need for his snide comments about MM not going up with Harry earlier. She probably wanted to stay with her kids like Kate.

MomwasCasual · 08/09/2022 19:52

I'm constantly surprised how he keeps that gig, considering that Charles (albeit unwittingly) expressed public dislike of him.

Usually Royal correspondents have to at least hint at having 'insider' insight, how do you do that when one of the Top Dogs has announced how much he cant bear you?

Haudyourwheesht · 08/09/2022 19:52

Surely he's at retiring age? This will maybe be his last job.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 08/09/2022 19:53

He said of her corgis earlier on today: 'they know nothing of her status'

SpringCalling · 08/09/2022 19:53

i have an irrational dislike for him. so avoiding BBC

GreenClock · 08/09/2022 19:55

His obsession with the Royals is a bit odd.

FayeGovan · 08/09/2022 19:56

His obsession with the Royals is a bit odd.

Specially since they cant stand him

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 08/09/2022 19:59

There was a thread about him on here a few years ago, and I've never seen vitriol like it!

Is he actually obsessed and sycophantic or just well aware that it's his job on the line if he doesn't appear so? I mean, they've got him boxed into the royal correspondent role, what else is he supposed to do?

catzrulz · 08/09/2022 20:00

Fair point, I'm definitely not a fan but I did feel a wee bit sorry for him. Not so much now reading these comments.

GuyFawkesDay · 08/09/2022 20:04

My post was deleted though lord only knows why. He's a very unpleasant man indeed.

The coverage doesn't need his particular brand of sycophantic, trite journalism.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 08/09/2022 19:53

That's just a fact 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wordwatcher · 08/09/2022 20:09

I didn’t find him an odious sycophantic man. Quite the opposite. He’s doing a job.

Crunchymum · 08/09/2022 20:11

Why does Charles hate him?

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 08/09/2022 20:13

GreenClock · 08/09/2022 19:55

His obsession with the Royals is a bit odd.

He's the BBC's royal correspondent, so it's kind of his job 🤔

Just like Chris Mason is "obsessed" with politics.

His obsession with the Royals is a bit odd.

It’s literally his job!

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 08/09/2022 20:17

That's like saying I'm obsessed with boilers because I've spent weeks building a website about them; it's just my job.
