Just watching BBC1, I think it looks like NW is going to cry.
I know the RF (Charles particularly) don't like him, but he's followed the late Queen for years and must be feeling upset.

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 08/09/2022 21:47

Of course it's not, but if that's the job they were willing to give him, what else is he going to do? He's obviously not a well liked guy so has few options, they've put him on the shitey beat, but people seem to think he should render himself unemployed instead, for some very odd reason.

DorritLittle · 08/09/2022 21:50

What is the evidence that NW is not a well liked guy? Aside from possibly the RF which is surely irrelevant.

ShaunaTheSheep · 08/09/2022 21:39

Huw Edwards and NW were on air all afternoon., doing a sterling job of reporting not very much at all. Clive Myrie briefly appeared and was obviously out of his comfort zone. Huw Edwards swiftly returned to show how him how it's done.

I think that was for Huw to have some food and a wee.

No idea, except every time there's a thread about him on here he gets ripped apart 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah he should have resigned and lived in poverty. For the sake of his dignity.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic here, but he would hardly have been living in poverty, as an ex BBC royal correspondent, if he had resigned!
If not, then I agree with you completely. I think the skiing comments made by Charles made him seem more human and relatable.

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 08/09/2022 22:02

Yes, sarcasm 😁

It's a weird thing people say about him, as if anyone would want to become unemployed and irrelevant when they've been used to a high profile career.

It's either he should quit or he's a big royal family sycophantic arselicker.

Reallyreallyborednow · 08/09/2022 22:07

he had a high profile career with the BBC before becoming royal correspondent. Spitting image puppet high profile 😂. Don’t know why you’d give that up to do a job where you’re disliked…

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 08/09/2022 19:53

He said of her corgis earlier on today: 'they know nothing of her status'

This is absolutely GOLDEN 😁

velvetblanket · 08/09/2022 19:46

Huw Edwards was certainly filling up whilst making the announcement. A difficult job.

I was watching ITV and Mary Nightingale could barely speak. I knew the news before she even announced it which made it all the more shocking as you were just waiting for the words.

declutteringmymind · 08/09/2022 22:09

I think her corgis would have realised, actually. I'm sure they will mourn her.

GaffNest · 08/09/2022 22:16

DorritLittle · 08/09/2022 21:45

How is he a sycophant if the RF don't like him because he asked them awkwad questions? He's been a serious journalist for years. Presumably the RC job just suits him. I remember him on the Six O'Clock news. I expect has some pretty good stories to tell.

I also remember him as the main anchor (later 80s). Being royal correspondent is a step down but still a cushy number nonetheless.

Speaking of anchors the best ever is Sir Trevor McDonald.

ImAvingOops · 08/09/2022 22:28

My now 25 year old loved Trevor McDonald. Wouldn't go to sleep until he'd seen news at ten. Odd child 😁

daisyjgrey · 08/09/2022 22:43

Witchell is an odious little prick and Charles doesn't like him. The sooner he shuffles off the better.

bellac11 · 08/09/2022 22:44

SpringCalling · 08/09/2022 19:53

i have an irrational dislike for him. so avoiding BBC

I cant abide him

Actually I cant abide 'royal correspondents' at all, they're all the same, all think they're something they're not

bellac11 · 08/09/2022 22:52

I like Clive Myrie, seems very human. I liked his documentary about the crown jewels, he interviewed the queen for that. And earlier he was talking about his mother who saw the queen in Jamaica

EnjoyingTheSilence · 08/09/2022 23:00

He’s annoyed me so much today. That awful voice and then questioning why Harry and Megan hadn’t travelled up with the others then why Megan hadn’t gone up at all after just saying that of course Kate couldn’t go up as she had to stay with the children.

OhLordyWhatNow · 08/09/2022 23:26

Nicholas Witchel should be made to retire now.

His 'tribute' summary of the Queen's life was sneering in parts. Has he not heard the saying 'never speak ill of the dead'?

His personal feelings/ bitterness are not warranted today.

Let's just reflect on the life of an elderly woman who made a lasting impression on most peoples lives; whether they supported her or not she was a constant.

Twentypast · 08/09/2022 23:36

LimeTreeGrove · 08/09/2022 19:51

There was no need for his snide comments about MM not going up with Harry earlier. She probably wanted to stay with her kids like Kate.

Their kids are stilll in the US.

Exactly, he seems like a proper gentleman. His Crown Jewels programme was excellent, he came over like a regular "Joe public" and was totally in awe of the jewels.

Absolutely and what was interesting is that so did she seem in awe of them and curious and interested, it was such a genuine interview

blockpavingismynightmare · 09/09/2022 00:29

I can't see anything odious at all about him. He's doing a job. The fact that Charles dislikes him is not a free pass to make rude remarks about a man doing his job - a man we do not know !

GaffNest · 08/09/2022 22:08

They all practiced for the Queen's death for decades but it's a shock that it actually happened. That's why they were all bumbling and/or crying.

I was listening to the radio and knew something was up when one of the ex-beeb journalists came back on air two hours after she finished.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 09/09/2022 00:37

NW just strikes me as someone who can’t resist the urge to get a dig in. I remember one of the royals had a health scare and he was wheeled out to be super indignant at not being kept personally informed by the Palace. Plus he looks like a fucking gecko.

whynotwhatknot · 09/09/2022 00:46

dont like him nor does charles hopefull thats the last we see of him reporting on the royals

He was sounding really quite bitchy when he was talking about MM. Unnecessary and inappropriate
