Was anyone else at the Barbican last night and saw Divine Comedy perform this? 😄

What absolutely joy!! 😭

My lovely, lovely, lovely horse!

Speed 3 is my favourite episode, but Eurovision comes a close second.

nohopenoharm · 02/09/2022 22:15

I actually sing this to my horse on a regular basis and he loves it 🤣.

Caminante · 02/09/2022 22:32

@ShinyPikachu Yes and he won his round! He mentioned it tonight because he sang 'Mastermind', which is a beautiful song.

He has a full band and classical musicians too, it's such a rich, full sound, I wish I was bet at describing. Anyway it's just amazing..

Only a couple of other people will remember this but we sang this through the middle of a town in New Zealand (alcohol may have been involved!) because of a Lloyds bank poster. Happy memories.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 02/09/2022 23:02

That's made me happier than a lovely horse! Neil did a long interview with Colin Murray earlier this year (it's still up on BBC Sounds) & he was AMAZING. Just absolutely exactly how you'd expect him to be - and he did mention My Lovely Horse Grin

harriethoyle · 03/09/2022 10:39

Bloody love the Divine Comedy. When my DM died, her sheep were in the paddock outside her bedroom window, my dogs were at her feet and the cat was on the bed. It was EXACTLY like the amazing DC song "The Dogs and the Horses" which I played that evening and sobbed to, but in a weirdly therapeutic way. It's an utterly beautiful, haunting song.

Doorhandleghost · 03/09/2022 10:55

Ah this was my favourite Father Ted moment!

iklboo · 03/09/2022 10:58

This is one of my favourite episodes. 😂

Whatwouldscullydo · 03/09/2022 11:02

WE ARE NOT WATCHING ALIENS!!!

I love Father Ted. I've got this song in my head now. Thanks for that 🤣

viques · 03/09/2022 11:03

Goodness! Anyone remember those Hot Italian Priest calendars? This is nothing like a hot priest calendar.😀

Rider, horse, and de identified crew in our Lovely Horse T-shirts. Although to anyone who knows, it is bloody obvious despite the black and I have to change username again now!

I showed our au pair Father Ted when she first came over, as she wanted to see what comedy was like in Britain. I should have realised it was never going to work when she just didn’t get Father Ted!

With a man on your back, like a train in the night….😻

It must be a bit baffling when you're mentally translating as well as trying to work out what on earth is going on with these priests 😂😂

On my way to night 4.

Last night (for DC fans) was Fin de Siecle and Regeneration albums in full plus encore of When the Lights Go Out All Over Europe plus Tonight We Fly.
Regeneration in particular was just a beautiful swell of sound.

Tonight is Absent Friends and Victory For The Common Muse (possibly the other way round) plus maybe something unusual for encore? Or maybe Generation Sex and/or National Express.

I don't think we'll have a repeat of My Lovely Horse sadly! There were a few extra tracks that night because A Short Album About Love is...well, short. An unexpected treat!

I am deeply envious - enjoy!

DFOD · 03/09/2022 22:39

I was there at The Barbican on Thursday - was magnificent, deeply sensory and emotional - loved every moment. Also went to the Best Of concert at The London Palladium a few months back and it was so magnificent we went again to another concert. Wel-Jel you have done all 4 nights - I bet tonight was amazing …. was thinking of trying to get to Paris somehow ….

Years ago my dd was gifted a cuddly horse, he was always known as the lovely horse Grin. We quiet often quote "near, far away" in our house.

That really is a lovely horse though!

"Small... far away", are I believe the most funny three words ever written in the English language. I giggle just thinking about Dougall's face.

AuntMasha · 02/09/2022 19:08

Sheep’s tea!

Dougal: “God Ted, I’ve heard about those cults. Everyone dressing in black and saying our Lord’s going to come back and judge us all.”

Ted: “No… no Dougal, that’s us. That’s Catholicism you’re talking about there.”

😂😄 I'm laughing just thinking about it!
Which episode is the one where Mrs Doyle falls out the window? I remember watching it the first time practically rolling on the floor laughing! The priests lost in the lingerie department! I need to watch them all again.
Graham Linehan is an absolute genius, DH loved the IT Crowd as well

IcakethereforeIam · 04/09/2022 09:53

'I hear you're a racist now father', kicking Bishop Brennan up the arse, it was just resting in my account, a jumper in a cake, hairy babies.

Definitely overdue a rewatch.

OnlyEverAutumn · 04/09/2022 10:02

@LouLou198 dh and I always do near small and far away when we walk through a field of cows 😂. Having recently watched Father Ted our kids now understand the joke 😂
