Was anyone else at the Barbican last night and saw Divine Comedy perform this? 😄

What absolutely joy!! 😭

I saw Moby and Ardle O'Hanlon perform the 1 note version at Slane Castle maybe 20 years ago. It was great!

I went to the Father Ted House this summer for a quick pic at the gate and saw the Plassey shipwreck on Inis Oírr too from the opening credits.

I won't comment on Graham Linehan 🙄

AuntMasha · 02/09/2022 14:22

Just play the fecking note!

bigfatfeet · 02/09/2022 14:24

I was there and it was AMAZING - even though I was on my own, I was dancing like a loon. There's a video on YouTube (not mine) if you want to relive the experience...

OrlandointheWilderness · 02/09/2022 14:24

As soon as I read the thread title that's exactly what I thought of!! 😂

Most amazing intro ever 😂

My horse is actually named after a Father Ted character, and is quite well known in certain circles (cannot say more than that because I’ve probably outed myself already!) When we took part in a particular high profile sports event, my entire support crew were dressed in T shirts with the psychedelic horse’s head on the front and the words My Lovely Horse emblazoned across the chest. The number of people who came up to us and professed a love of the song was quite pleasing. I’ve lost track of the number of people I’ve made watch the YouTube video of it. 🤣

This is lovely! People really do love this song.

It may just not be to your taste!

It's from an episode of Father Ted where the characters enter a song into "Eurosong" and it's My Lovely Horse which in real life Neil Hannon wrote.
It's just silly and funny...nothing complicated. Because it's Father Ted a lot of people have great affection for anything related.

God the cancellation of the musical is so bloody sad!!

It's really heartbreaking

Noooooooo. They refused in Manchester!!!!

Pebbledashery · 02/09/2022 15:06

Where are you going with your fetlocks blowing 🤣

SingingSands · 02/09/2022 15:16

Could not love this more! We still regularly sing "my lovely horse" in our house 😄

Igotmylipstickon · 02/09/2022 15:27

Ah feck that's stuck in my head now and I haven't even clicked on the link 😂Pity Dermot Morgan left this earth so soon. Father Ted is a classic.

That's one of the most bizarre things I think I've read on MN!

picklemewalnuts · 02/09/2022 15:31

@Caminante just that little bit of context really helps! Yep, a worthy Eurovision entry!

ShinyPikachu · 02/09/2022 15:35

I only came here in the hope it was about Father Ted and I wasn't disappointed. Absolutely loving this thread and I now need one of those t-shirts with the horse on it. Grin

Haggisfish3 · 02/09/2022 15:37

It was so bloody brilliant. And I love divine comedy too!

REP22 · 02/09/2022 15:56

Like a train in the night. Yeah.

Brilliant. If the sole output of The Divine Comedy was this, the Father Ted theme and 'National Express', they'd still be utter legends. Them and Nin Huugen and the Huugen Notes. 😉

Omg my partner got me a Valentine's Day card that said my lovely girlfriend on it - I thought it was a bit crap but didn't say anything. Later that night he told me this year he tried to find a really thoughtful card and he said that one really spoke to him but he didn't know why. Then I clocked, we'd been watching A Song for Europe last night Grin🐴

I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😊

it's totally not my sense of humour, but as long as it's yours & you had a good night, that's all that matters!!

I appreciate that, thank you!
