CF sitting in our reserved seats

We made them move, obviously, but now I'm getting death stares off one of them while they stand in the gangway of the rammed train. Apparently, they didn't think seat reservations were a "thing"

Awkward, long journey ahead!

Loudly shout “So glad I used my initiative and pre reserved seats, so easy to do, and means you don’t end up bitter and angry standing in the gangway.”

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/08/2022 13:42

Get absorbed in a juicy mn thread and ignore them.

ImperfectAlf · 29/08/2022 13:44

Start practicing your own death stare.
Well done for making them move.😁

GreenWheat · 29/08/2022 13:45

Not sure this qualifies them as genuine CF's. It's quite easy to miss on some trains, plus sometimes the people who have the reservations don't turn up. Often people sit there for either of those reasons. You asked them to move and they did. A real CF would have refused to move!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 29/08/2022 13:45

Smile sweetly every time they catch your eye.

lemmity · 29/08/2022 13:47

Do biiiiiig arm stretches, wiggle around a bit then loudly and repeatedly declare how very comfortable you are 😁

I assure you, it was not without argument! Other passengers also got involved. Was very embarrassing.

If it's LNER they had system issues today which led to reservations being turned off, when they fixed it and reinstated reservations mid route it would have been a nightmare.

Say I board a train at Inverness, no reservations show until after Edinburgh, someone gets on at berwick, I'm in their seat, the reservations sign above shows I'm in their seat. I had no idea because the thing only lit up after I had been on the train for a few hours. It happens.

Today would have been carnage for seats on LNER

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 29/08/2022 13:49

Also, there is seat reservation information above each sit, it's pretty hard to miss.

I’m glad you made them move. We used to reserve seats for our dses to get to their uni towns hours away - they weren’t confident to ask people to move if they were in their seats. Used to make me so cross!

I'd absolutely be sympathetic in those circumstances. That's not the case here, though.

Too bad, they should have booked a seat. Enjoy your comfortable ride.

TigerRag · 29/08/2022 13:58

Booking a seat isn't always possible

Cheeseandlobster · 29/08/2022 14:03

Cf's rely on the politeness of others not to make a fuss. Good for you!?

KangarooKenny · 29/08/2022 14:08

Well done in shifting them.
My DH would have left them there because he wouldn’t want to make a fuss 🙄

DelorisVC · 29/08/2022 14:09

They're twats.
Can you do that thing where you stick your fingers up but on the side of your face. That'll bloody learn em.

SunnyD44 · 29/08/2022 14:10

Just ignore them.

Well done for getting them to move.

it was on this service, obviously.

TabithaTittlemouse · 29/08/2022 14:12

This really annoys me. I have it often, they always argue after I have politely pointed out that we have reserved the seats. Surely you just apologise and move?

Malie · 29/08/2022 14:13

You booked seats. They moved. No problem.

Floralnomad · 29/08/2022 14:14

Just ignore them , engross yourself in a book / paper / phone .

Booking a seat isn't always possible

It clearly was for this journey though as OP managed to do it.

I don't know why people tie themselves up in knots and make up additional scenarios or rationales to defend a stranger rather than accept the word of the OP who was actually there.

It was a train where reservations were possible
Reservations weren't cancelled and then switched back on part way
The CF put up an argument

balalake · 29/08/2022 14:16

If you know where they are sit (coach and seat numbers), I'd be tempted to text the BTP on the number. If this death stares continue for more than a few minutes. After all if others got involved, you might be peaceful, but they might not be.

KatherineJaneway · 29/08/2022 14:18

You get lots of CF's on trains. Had a man walk up to me in a train carriage once and with total confidence tell me I am in his seat. I knew I wasn't so very politely said, no I am not, here is my ticket and this is my seat. I was polite but he knew not to mess with me. He soon moved off.

SewinginIreland · 29/08/2022 14:25

Last time I reserved two seats and two rough looking men were sat in them and refused to move, even after I showed them my ticket. They were quite sweary too. Tossers!

I went and found the conductor and explained the problem and she kindly moved us to First class for the rest of the 3 hour journey. We got free drinks and newspapers too. My unassertive pal was really anxious when I tried to get the men to vacate my seats but she was delighted that we got seats in first class.

I nipped to the loo at some point and casually thanked them for getting us bumped into First Class. 😂
