CF sitting in our reserved seats

We made them move, obviously, but now I'm getting death stares off one of them while they stand in the gangway of the rammed train. Apparently, they didn't think seat reservations were a "thing"

Awkward, long journey ahead!

I once had a seat booked in a long distance train. I was a young woman at the time. A man was in my reserved seat and refused point blank to move. He called me names and belittled me. I spoke to a guard to who spoke to the rude man. The guard then gave me a set in First Class because the man was such an obnoxious cunt. Obnoxious cunt then said I could have my seat and he’d take the First Class seat as it was going spare. The guard laughed at him.

Loudly shout “So glad I used my initiative and pre reserved seats, so easy to do, and means you don’t end up bitter and angry standing in the gangway.”

Jesus @Allthegoodusernamesareused please don't ever do this

Iknowforsure1 · 29/08/2022 14:38

It happens with me when I go to the cinema all the time. Can’t believe people do that.

kimchifox · 29/08/2022 14:41

Some people are utterly ignorant twunts. If they are decent they will feel embarrassed about it later - if not they will seethe about it later. Either way - not your problem, ignore them.

Every time I used to book with virgin, and someone was in our seat's, they used to move us to first class. Loved it lol

It was Virgin!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/08/2022 14:50

There is seat reservation information above each sit, it's pretty hard to miss

Not to CFs it's not, and if you chance it hoping that the booked passengers don't turn up, you don't then argue about it if they do

Surprised (though glad) that other passengers backed you though; all too often folk just stare into the middle distance ...

PAFMO · 29/08/2022 14:50

Just had exactly this. St Pancras to Nottingham
Coach A, 23 and 24 reserved. CF in 24. Says "do you want me to move?" With sighing and huffing. Above her head is "reserved from London to Nottingham"
Across the aisle are 2 non reserved seats which she could have taken, but no. (and yes, I could have taken them as well, because they were there, but all too often they aren't)

Notfancyfree · 29/08/2022 14:51

Avanti west coast have double or even triple booked reservations so much kerfuffle on these routes throughout august

Scepticalwotsits · 29/08/2022 14:51

had this before where people did have reserved seats, but were to chicken to ask people to move, train filled up and they got turfed out. They then tried to turf me out my seat when they grey a pair, however I also had reserved the seats. They had got on a later train and expected their reservation to still apply!

Longingforatikihut · 29/08/2022 14:51

Last time I had train reservations a guy refused to move out of my seat. I made to sit on his knee (I'm a morbidly obese fugly, no one wants me on their knee). He moved pretty sharpishly and went to get a train guard who just laughed at him and gave me a high 5.

LIZS · 29/08/2022 14:52

This is so annoying. Travelled on long distance train the other day and a family group had not prebooked(or had done so too late to reserve seats together) and guilted a young bloke into giving up his. They then took over a table when a group got off, despite the seats being clearly marked as reserved again, but eventually were turfed out by those who had. They sheepishly moved on down the train. Another annoyance is those who reserve in the Quieter coach then noisily prattle to each other and take phone calls.

Booking a seat isn't always possible“

it was on this service, obviously.

Not if you're buying tickets at the station. 🤷🏻‍♀️

maddy68 · 29/08/2022 14:53

Be so so nice to them. It's very difficult to be a dick to a nice person

MissConductUS · 29/08/2022 14:53

This often happens when I book a seat in business class on AMTRAK in the US. It's a separate car, with larger seats and more legroom. If coach class is full or nearly full, people walking through will often just plunk down in an empty business class seat, despite the signage indicating that a business class ticket is required.

When the conductor comes through, he explains that seats in that car are reserved and more expensive. Usually, people move, but the last time I saw it happen, two blokes refused to move. The conductor told them he'd radio ahead to the next station and have the railway police waiting to take them off. They moved.

But it clearly was on this particular train, though.

On the list of things that never happened 🤣

SunshineLoving · 29/08/2022 14:57

Arguing with you wasn't fair.

I get the train a lot and I often sit in reserved seats as in my experience people don't turn up who have booked them or must sit elsewhere. I have never been asked to move because someone booked the seat. I would move if asked and wouldn't argue. They must have been annoyed that they would have to stand for a long time which I can understand but it is the train company's fault for not putting on enough trains, not yours. Did they find seats somewhere else?

mumda · 29/08/2022 14:57

I had discovered asking someone on the platform which will be the un-reserved carriage is very helpful. You'll know which end of the platform to stand on.
I've not been on a train since Covid though!

You can reserve seats up to 5 minutes before you board train with LNER and Virgin.

Last time I reserved two seats and two rough looking men were sat in them and refused to move, even after I showed them my ticket. They were quite sweary too. Tossers!

I went and found the conductor and explained the problem and she kindly moved us to First class for the rest of the 3 hour journey. We got free drinks and newspapers too. My unassertive pal was really anxious when I tried to get the men to vacate my seats but she was delighted that we got seats in first class.

I nipped to the loo at some point and casually thanked them for getting us bumped into First Class. 😂

Love it Grin

What did they say ?

We had that in July. Their train had been cancelled so they had to get on outs and sat in the seats they had reserved on the other train. They weren't rude or unpleasant but they were genuinely mystified that their reservations hadn't
magically transferred and that this would somehow have worked with the next service and its existing reservations!Grin

PeekAtYou · 29/08/2022 15:05

This really annoys me too. Well done for asking them to move.
