Anyone else used to love the Past Times shop? I miss it. It was like a museum but you could buy everything as it was just fake old stuff. I loved it as a child.

I loved it as a child also. I used to get a Christmas present from there most years from my grandmother.

Yes, it brings back lovely memories of going browsing with my grandma.

44 here and I loved Past Times too, as a teen - loved their Victorian nightgowns, jewellery, shawls, loads of stuff. I’d always get a few things from there for my birthday.

hedgehogger1 · 28/08/2022 09:25

As a teen I always used to go there first when I needed to buy a present for my mum :)

My now deceased MIL bought me a mug which gently poked fun at my DH, her son. The mug is faded but I love it and it’s thin china. Miss my MIL and am incredibly careful with the mug, DH is not allowed to touch it.

I still listen to the three "Sophistication" CDs with the Art Deco lady on the cover!

I always used to lust after the silver "gimmel" ring with two hands that pulled apart to reveal a heart.

I had that ring! My dad bought it for me when I was around 11 I think, I'm nearly 39 and I can't believe how long ago it was - I can still smell the Past Times shop in Bath!

woodhill · 28/08/2022 11:03

There was always unusual gifts for people, just a wonderful shop

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/08/2022 11:04

I still have some PT Christmas decorations, inc. 2 garlands made of cardboard robins - detailed Victorian C. card style - on a cord. They come out every year.

ValBiro · 28/08/2022 11:10

@ChagSameachDoreen me too! The claddagh ring in three parts! I circled it in the catalogue and left it open for my Mum to see but never got it for Christmas. I can't have been more than 13? I love Past Times too (37 now) and that ring is the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread.

ValBiro · 28/08/2022 11:11

@BeautyGoesToBenidorm I'm so jealous!

Freeasabird76 · 28/08/2022 11:14

Funnily enough,I mentioned this to my sister just last week, was my favourite shop in Cardiff and I loved it.

EBearhug · 28/08/2022 11:18

My favourite silk dressing gown was from there, and a watch, on which sadly the strap broke on a travelator at Malaga airport, which I'm still sad about. And want to replace it with a genuine 1930s cocktail watch, only I can't afford it.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/08/2022 11:37

The online Museum Collection is lethal! (For the pocket)

This wipe-clean tablecloth is just one thing I’ve decided on, for a dd with 3 messy little dcs and a long wooden kitchen table. She decorates from at least 1st Dec, so it’ll be well used.

I've never been to Past Times shop
you have memories, I have nothing <sniffle>

that Museum thing is very pricey, is it good quality?

I wasn’t aware of Museum Selection until this thread but I’ve just bought some tea towels from there. It was £12.99 for a 2 pack.

OhTheLeetleHandsAndFeetle · 28/08/2022 20:18

Thank you for the Museum Shop suggestion! Love it. I have my eye on a fancy jacket.....which, if I buy it, I will have to wear to watch the telly in, in lieu of the heating I won’t be able to afford!

woodhill · 28/08/2022 20:20

I think being in mumsnet makes me buy stuff

Jacket sounds 😊

Nagado · 28/08/2022 21:31

I loved this shop. I still have a set of six silver rocking horses with red velvet ribbons that go on the tree each year. I’ve just found the Museum Selection and now have half the site in my basket!

Is anyone else slightly suspicious that @chillipenguin and @ILoveAnOwl aren’t actually random posters talking to each other for the first time, but are actually very canny colleagues in the Museum Selection’s marketing team? 😉

Rummikub · 28/08/2022 21:42

I loved this shop too. I have some of their Celtic jewellery and a (thin) mug.

Im tempted to see what I can get on eBay if my dds don’t want them.

It did feel like quality stuff to me.

Rummikub · 28/08/2022 21:47

Someone’s selling a vintage past times carrier bag for £2!

it was nice to see even the boxes.

chillipenguin · 28/08/2022 22:20

It smelt nice

My mum used to buy loads from there.

I still have (and wear) some lovely jewellery she got me.
