If you screamed right now, would your neighbours come a check it out?

Like a top of your lungs scream.

In the apartment I’m in now, probably not because the window to the back courtyard is open and there’s 100+ apartments so wouldn’t know where it came from

last apartment, next door totally would kick the door in even if it was open. Mainly because he fancied himself as a bit of a hero 😁

Yeah, this once actually happened on our street. Woman clearly screaming, crying and pleading with someone. We had at least 4 of the neighbours out trying to find out what was happening.

NiceTwin · 25/08/2022 22:16

Nearest neighbour is a quarter of a mile across fields, he wouldn't hear me.
If I rang him though, he'd be down like a shot.

EllenWaiteourkid · 25/08/2022 22:16

No

AnneLovesGilbert · 25/08/2022 22:16

Probably. The couple next door have horrific rows and I’ve called the police a bunch of times about screaming and death threats between them and often other neighbours have also called. It’s very very quiet where we are which helps.

kimchifox · 25/08/2022 22:18

One scream no, a lot of screaming - I think they would come out to see what was going on.

Hellocatshome · 25/08/2022 22:19

No. I live in a terraced house but they are actually quite sound proof. Even if they heard the neighbour on one side is an alcoholic and generally not with it enough to answer a knock on the door let alone come to our aid because of a scream. The house the other side is flats and I think empty at the moment as its usually students living there.

Where I lived in an ex council house Semi by joined on neighbour would definitely have come. He was in his 80s and walked with a walker but would come over if our smoke alarm went off to see if we needed help (no im just crap at cooking) he also used to pop over if the baby had been crying a lot to offer advice by the way of old wives tales etc, he also used to bring biscuits. I miss him.

Leafy3 · 25/08/2022 22:19

Nah.

But op if you're single and fancy your neighbour, get screaming I say!

EllenWaiteourkid · 25/08/2022 22:20

Our house is 70 years, detached and solid, they wouldn't hear me.

Blackdiame · 25/08/2022 22:21

Wouldn't hear me. Solid walls and nearest house is far away.

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/08/2022 22:23

Yes, if my screams reached the lower floors which they would. The one below me would probably just bang on the ceiling, although I spose I could stamp SOS back

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 25/08/2022 22:23

Not sure. Mostly quite elderly so would probably be scared to come out and try to figure out where the scream came from. The younger ones would probably be on FB asking 'did anyone hear that scream just now?! So unnecessary!'

Thinking about it a single 'scream' is pretty useless isn't it?? I'm making a mental note to try to remember to shout a word/s - 'help!!' at the very least - should the occasion call for it!

HJ40 · 25/08/2022 22:23

Eventually, but at first they'd probably just think I'm shouting at the kids again.

UrsulaPandress · 25/08/2022 22:25

Nobody would hear. But if I went outside, possibly.

YewandOak · 25/08/2022 22:27

No. We don't really know each other except a ''hi'' in passing,

HMSSophia · 25/08/2022 22:28

Yes. Absolutely.

bloodywhitecat · 25/08/2022 22:29

Yes they would.

DramaAlpaca · 25/08/2022 22:31

No, they wouldn't hear me.

Arenanewbie · 25/08/2022 22:31

I’m not sure but neighbours opposite will probably go out if it’s after 10 pm. It’s too much noise on the street in general before that.

MsMarvellous · 25/08/2022 22:33

Not sure they'd hear so no. If I was in the garden and they were out too and they heard then they would.

LubaLuca · 25/08/2022 22:36

They wouldn't hear me if I was inside and they were.

I once went to theirs because I'd heard bloodcurdling screams from their house when I was in my garden. They were cutting their autistic son's toenails and he didn't want them to.

comedycentral · 25/08/2022 22:36

I was a victim of a violent stranger crime and when the police went door to door many people heard me screaming but didn't help. I would always help, even if it was a bang on the window, calling the police- anything.

comedycentral · 25/08/2022 22:37

I shouted help as well as screaming. I've since heard you should shout fire instead.

PeloAddict · 25/08/2022 22:38

Don't think so
But one of my neighbours is doing horrific karaoke at the top of her lungs and nobody has yet shouted at her to STFU, so I would probably be drowned out
If I banged on their door though, they would open it

pinkstripeycat · 25/08/2022 22:38

Most of them I think. There’s 7 houses next to and opposite and down the road to us. Everyone helps eachother out altho’ we don’t socialise together. Next door have 3 tiny DC and everyone is keen to lend them things and help out. The man is quite burley and he’d come running if I screamed. DH would sleep through if I screamed 😂

Useitorloseit · 25/08/2022 22:38

Yes, we're all a bunch of nosey bastards!
