If you screamed right now, would your neighbours come a check it out?

Like a top of your lungs scream.

In the apartment I’m in now, probably not because the window to the back courtyard is open and there’s 100+ apartments so wouldn’t know where it came from

last apartment, next door totally would kick the door in even if it was open. Mainly because he fancied himself as a bit of a hero 😁

I lived in a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere and looking back i realise no one would have heard my screams which is actually pretty frightening

I now live in a street where there is pretty much drama everynight 😓 but I think my next door neighbour would maybe check on me….or maybe not 💁

RicherThanYew · 25/08/2022 23:45

I want to say first that I love my neighbours on both sides, they are all lovely people in the whole street on our side. On OUR side. On the other side there is a half way house (of sorts) for very troubled souls with addictions and violent behaviour issues, so screaming/shouting/violence and death on our street is sadly normal and no I do not think any of my neighbours would check because they'd assume it was that buildings tenants and we are all too scared to go out there.

FlyingSaucerss · 25/08/2022 23:46

No When my ex attacked me outside my house not one of my neighbourS called the police.

FlyingSaucerss · 25/08/2022 23:46

Or checked in any way

Smileytess · 25/08/2022 23:47

They sure would

LovinglifeAF · 25/08/2022 23:49

Yes, they are an older couple and always looking out for people. I’m certain the husband would. I would too if I heard the same from theirs.

Regalhen · 25/08/2022 23:54

Yes absolutely; had a large spider on the ceiling this year and was trying to catch it when it dropped on me so i screamed (loudly)

Under ten seconds later i had both neighbours at my door checking if everything was ok. I have really nice neighbours 😀

CredibilityProblem · 25/08/2022 23:56

Probably not, but if I managed to type Help on the neighbourhood WhatsApp group there would be a posse of young male rugby players round in 2 minutes (it's that sort of demographic).

LightsDownLowDancingSlow · 25/08/2022 23:58

Our screams would go unheard, our nearest neighbours are too far away.

RoseMartha · 25/08/2022 23:58

Possibly as they sometimes check on us as my eldest is violent.

QuestionableMouse · 26/08/2022 00:00

I heard my neighbour four doors down calling for help in her garden. She'd slipped and hurt her back. So yeah, I guess it could happen in reverse.

newtb · 26/08/2022 00:08

No

Athenajm80 · 26/08/2022 00:11

Generally yes, my neighbours are mainly great and I would also go to help them, but as per my post on another thread, I did hear a scream one morning but it was so quiet out that it was impossible to work out where it came from. There wasn't anything happening outside so I didn't do anything as I thought I can't call the police to say I heard a scream but no idea where from and there are no other signs of a disturbance. Now I know what happened, I feel really guilty.

This was the first time I ever "did nothing" and it will be the last.

Lemoncurd · 26/08/2022 00:11

I screamed loudly a number of times this evening (cat brought us a giant mouse and it kept running towards me as we attempted to remove it).

Nothing happened, 13 year old was terrified that the police would appear at the door!

DeePlume · 26/08/2022 00:35

No. My neighbour doesn't even make eye contact with me if we are both at out front doors which are inches apart!

Flatmountains · 26/08/2022 01:16

Yes. I fell down the communal stairs and probably pissed off my old neighbour screaming all the way down. This one would actually try to help.

Cas112 · 26/08/2022 01:20

Nope

NeedToLeaveNow · 26/08/2022 01:21

No neighbours would hear me

commondebt · 26/08/2022 01:41

Heard screaming one day, looked out the window to see neighbour opposite threatening to throw herself out of her window. Took the police / ambulance / fire brigade 3 hours to get her down and she was in hospital for months.

Dobbysgotthesocks · 26/08/2022 01:58

They would hear yes. Come to help - probably not as I don't get on with them. I'm autistic and they took against me from day one because I'm not a social butterfly and don't get involved in village gossip.

But they would definitely hear. They are pretty quick to come out and separate cat fights in the middle of the night (at least once a week).

Iamthewalnut · 26/08/2022 02:00

Probably not, but when my neighbour screamed at 3am two nights ago I was there. Her relative (aged 58) had stopped breathing and was beyond resuscitating by the time the ambulance reached us.

GuerlainHo · 26/08/2022 02:03

No, although a bunch of nosey f*ckers.

DaisyJoy1 · 26/08/2022 02:16

I live in a gated complex abroad with security so someone might call security but not a chance anyone would come over. There are these really strict sort of social rules about being cautious to not embarrass each other, so nobody would come in case I felt embarrassed. It's really hard to explain the social set up, it took me a few years to figure out! Also because it's so secure I think people would think it's doubtful that I've been murdered, unless by a family member, in which case they'd not want to embarrass the family member so again, wouldn't come over 😂

Maybe if I was literally screaming "Can someone help me??? Someone come here and help me!!!!" then they'd come because there was less chance of it being a faux pas and them walking into a situation where they'd embarrass someone

Nat6999 · 26/08/2022 02:43

No, 5 years ago a lady was murdered by her partner in the block of flats I live in, neighbours heard shouting & thought it was just an argument. Her partner had strangled her & put her in the bath behind the shower curtain before slashing his wrists & staggering out of the flat. It took police going in twice before they found her body.

AgathaPastie · 26/08/2022 02:53

I fell down the stairs once, and screamed all the way down and landed with a massive THUD at the bottom
The cat slinked up to me, meowed then pissed off through the catflap
There were 3 other adults asleep, I had to shout several times for one of them to help me up
So no
Probably not
