If you screamed right now, would your neighbours come a check it out?

Like a top of your lungs scream.

In the apartment I’m in now, probably not because the window to the back courtyard is open and there’s 100+ apartments so wouldn’t know where it came from

last apartment, next door totally would kick the door in even if it was open. Mainly because he fancied himself as a bit of a hero 😁

I don't think anyone would hear me. Semi detached but the attached house is currently empty.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 25/08/2022 22:23

Not sure. Mostly quite elderly so would probably be scared to come out and try to figure out where the scream came from. The younger ones would probably be on FB asking 'did anyone hear that scream just now?! So unnecessary!'

Thinking about it a single 'scream' is pretty useless isn't it?? I'm making a mental note to try to remember to shout a word/s - 'help!!' at the very least - should the occasion call for it!

Fire is usually the best
It's like car alarms/house alarms, I mean who would check one of those now

pinkstripeycat · 25/08/2022 22:39

Oh yes the fire thing pp has put.

Gooseysgirl · 25/08/2022 22:41

Immediate NDNs wouldn't because they are utter bastards. Other neighbours would though.

WarrickDavisAsPlates · 25/08/2022 22:41

Mine would definitely hear me as the walls are so thin I can hear them moving around in their house and hear when their baby cries.

They wouldn't come round though.

I gave birth at home with assistance from my daughter and finally my husband who just about made it in time. I was definitely making noise and I know they were in.

The next time I saw the neighbour he even mentioned there being a "bit of a commotion" and the ambulance appearing last week and asked if we had been OK.

So, based on that experience I wouldn't be waiting to be rescued by him.

ClownSchool · 25/08/2022 22:45

Ours would discuss it on the WhatsApp group first but then all come out once they worked out who it is. We have good neighbours mainly.

Just on a side note, I once fell downstairs and found out that an emergency scream is done on an inhale rather than an exhale. I only found out because nobody heard me because I inhaled half my hair and muffled the sound 🤦‍♀️

ImHavingAnOldFriendForDinner · 25/08/2022 22:48

No because on one side she's 80 and deaf in one ear and the other side have moved out and new people not moved in yet so I'd be stuffed really 😂

XenoBitch · 25/08/2022 22:50

I have. Nothing happened.

germsandcoffee · 25/08/2022 22:55

Yep definitely

CornflowerBlue62 · 25/08/2022 22:55

They’d probably think it was foxes.

GoldPig · 25/08/2022 22:56

Probably as immediate neighbours in my small block of flats know each other’s normal noises so someone would likely knock or call the police if there was sustained screaming or sounds of distress. However we live in the middle of an inner city nightlife area where people scream in drunken reverie plus there are some loud couples rows and parental yelling goes on all the time. And there are a few on my estate with MH issues. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s police worthy or regular everyday shrieking.

PrettyIndigo · 25/08/2022 22:59

Yes they'd be round, not because they are worried and want to help, but because they are the nosiest pair of old buggars I've ever met. If there's something going on they have to have front row seats.

FantasylandEnthusiast · 25/08/2022 23:00

Mine would probably hope I was being murdered.

ChipsRoastOrBoiled · 25/08/2022 23:02

I don't think they'd even hear me. They live in an 18th century house which has walls about a foot thick.

Keladrythesaviour · 25/08/2022 23:05

Yes, if I had the windows open and someone was outside. I don't think you'd hear otherwise.

Wbeezer · 25/08/2022 23:07

My lovely old neighbour died in hospital this morning, so no he wouldn't 😥
I'm going to miss him.
I'm not sure my young adult children would hear me scream in the same house, they always have noise cancelling headphones on and never hear the doorbell.

LillyBugg · 25/08/2022 23:07

I hope yes. I recently heard a 'help help help' at 3am and went to help a neighbour who a couple of hours later had a massive heart attack in hospital. Had I not gone and helped her she would have died on her drive ☹️ I hope anyone else would do the same for me if I screamed for help.

WeAllHaveWings · 25/08/2022 23:11

We had it in our street last year, mid day. Womans scream, dh/I and a couple of other houses ran out our front doors and saw a couple lads/hoodies up scambling over a 6ft fence and jumping in a car. They had broken into a house across the road, must have thought it was empty. They scarpered as soon as she screamed and we were too far away /wrong angle to get the reg.

It was surreal hearing it, dh and I turned and looked at each other without saying anything for what felt like ages, but it was only a split second before we both ran to the door. It was such a relief when we knew no one was actually hurt.

torquewench · 25/08/2022 23:19

The ones I'm joined on to are elderly and deaf.
The ones on the other side would complain about the noise. If it was her screaming I'd twitch the curtains then carry on with what I was doing.

Pallisers · 25/08/2022 23:22

Yes. the ones on either side, the one behind me (and possibly a couple of his neighbours too), and if they heard me the two houses across the street. I love our neighbours.

CoffeeIsForClosers · 25/08/2022 23:24

I think so. The walls are quite thin and she's a responsible sort.

In my previous house, years ago, my toddler son fell down the stairs and my NDN heard the thuds and came straight round. She said it was so loud she was afraid it was me. That was really nice, and we were only really on hello-in-passing terms.

ForensicFlossy · 25/08/2022 23:25

Mine absolutely would, my dh was recently working away and my dog started barking in the middle of the night (she NEVER barks), my neighbours got up to check everything was OK. My dh and I would also respond.

Citycentre3 · 25/08/2022 23:32

Nope. Old house can't hear a thing.

Thismummyrunstheshow · 25/08/2022 23:36

No but I could bet it would go on the local group Facebook page

GiveUsACoffee · 25/08/2022 23:40

Nope...elderly neighbour is deaf!
