Disney Plus doing Jilly Cooper's Rivals

This is just the best news. I've been waiting for an adaptation of Rivals since I first fell in love with the bounder Rupert C-B in circa 1997.

But the question is who will play him? I can't think of anyone off the top of my head who can fill those boots - any suggestions?

The red shoe is wrong! They have a slingback and the bottom of a trouser leg. The original was a high heeled, closed back shoe and no trousers in sight.

And I can't see Billy and Janey Lloyd-Foxe on the cast list. Have they been axed? I'm not liking this

Billy and Janey play fairly minor roles in Rivals so I suspect they have been cut out. It would be too complicated to explain who they are for viewers who aren’t familiar with the books.

Patrick being cut out is concerning though as he’s fairly important to the plot.

True. I'm sad about Billy and Janey though. I love his friendship with Rupert. I suppose it is impossible to have every character in it, there are so many.

He can be included in the end without having to be any sort of famous actor.

Yeah he did re Caitlin - I'm wondering if they're eyeing up the Patrick plot like for a potential series 2. You know if it's a big hit they might mix an 'inspired by rivals' set of characters and merge with some plots from other books.

Yes although I suspect they have had to cut a lot of these subplots - it would require a much longer cast list and series.

Oh yes, I’m sure anyone who doesn’t contribute in any meaningful way to the main plot has been culled from the programme.

Shame really because I love the little subplots. But shouldn';t be greedy. It was inevitable that they'd need to trim elements.

I don’t think I’ve seen Archie in any cast lists either, so maybe that sub plot has also gone out of the window. I suppose in order to make it completely faithful to the book it would need to be about 800 episodes long!

Patrick is Cameron's happy-ish ending though (we do see her sobbing to Patrick about Rupert in TMWMHJ, hence the ish). What happens to Cameron without Patrick?

He can stlll be it. Just arrive at the end so the audience can guess the happy ever after? They can mention "3 kids, Patrick is at university"

There will be tons of "one line" actors in this. (As in every show)

Looking at the full cast details on IMDB, both Archie and Patrick are there.

Blimey, they’ve cast literally everyone! Fergus Penney, Charles Fairbairn, Wesley Emerson, Mrs Makepiece…perhaps we are getting the 800 episodes I wanted! 😄
