Scammed on vinted!

Please read! I’m a bit stressed out and unsure what to do…I bought a Dior bag on vinted 2 days ago for £150 the seller had no reviews but I’ve bought from sellers without reviews before so thought nothing of it until I got a message from the seller that seemed a bit automated almost like a robot had written it I decided to brush it under the carpet however I bought another designer bag on vinted again today for around the same price and I was suprised to see straight after purchasing I got a message from the seller almost identical to the seller of the dior bag and now I’m worried that these “sellers” are actually bots or whatever scamming people and I’ve fallen for it twice! I’ve messaged the sellers but haven’t had any response they’ve not even read my messages…I did get an email today to say the bag I purchased 2 days ago will arrive by end of tomorrow but on vinted it says the bags not been posted so not sure if that emails part of their scam. I’m feeling rather upset about it all as I spent about £300 in total on these two items and can’t afford to lose that money please can anyone give me advice or any help towards this not looking to be judged. Was thinking if the items never show up then I can let vinted know and then I’ll get my money back or if they show up (doubt they will) and aren’t what was described I can show vinted and get my money back but just a bit stressed still.

thanks, Megan

I just used the contact function on the website - it's a messaging thing, no phone number etc. I told them I think I'v been scammed because of x y z so you just tell them it's very automated. They then said they'd pause the transaction in case it didn't turn up. Obviously nothing turned up in my case so I contacted them again. It did take too long to get the money back really but I'm just glad that I did get it back. Mine wasn't for designer goods but something of a similar price point. I set up vinted mainly to sell my things but in future I won't buy anything more than £30 on there now.

HardRockOwl · 22/08/2022 15:33

The names, the lack of reviews and the odd pricing of the bags should all have rung alarm bells. You didn't think they were genuine at this price did you?

Anyway, providing you kept both of the transactions on the vinted site you will get your money back

I've seen multiple postings of the same wedding dress on Vinted, all sellers with usernames such as gei63hekf8 and with no feedback. I've reported the listings several times but Vinted do nothing!

Thanks for the help really appreciate it I have anxiety so it’s making this whole situation a lot more stressful for me. I just contacted vinted about the order and got sent an automated message by them saying that the seller has 5 days to post the item etc I then said I still need help and sent pictures of the messages the sellers sent me and now waiting for vinted to get back to me about it dosent sound too good as seems like they just want me to leave it till the item dosent show up.

It amazes me how many people think something is a 'bit odd' or not quite right yet still hand the money over!

Popsicle33 · 22/08/2022 15:48

What do you actually want Vinted to do?! If the item doesn't turn up or you're not happy, you'll get your money back. It seems bizarre that you have 'anxiety' yet still hand over cash for something you have a feeling is dodgy!

MeganRobs · 22/08/2022 15:50

It amazes me how people take time out of their day to post unnecessary comments! Literally said in my post no judgement for a reason your comment dosent help one bit. I didn’t think it was odd maybe I’m guliable but only thought it was odd after second purchase so don’t comment if you’re just going to judge me

OP posts:
MeganRobs · 22/08/2022 15:52

As I said I didn’t think it was dodgy till my second purchase you clearly don’t listen and are enjoying this conversation with me too much which I’m not trying to entertain any further

I will also judge you for buying tacky fakes from a sweat shop where women and children are exploited.

Judge me all you want I don’t know you and I don’t give a damn about you and your snobby self you’re completely irrelevant to me clearly have no life sitting at home commenting unnecessary things I’m not entertains this any further you don’t know me to be talking to me the way you are 😂

You can't dictate what someone contributes to a thread on a public forum Hmm

As a PP notes, if you've got anxiety why are you partaking in such risky behaviours as purchasing from obvious scammers? Your money is safe, Vinted has buyer protection - you might just be with out it for a while. And if you can't afford to be without the money for a while, it may be worth reconsidering your spending habits.

Also "Karen" is a most unpleasant misogynist term, think about it before throwing that around.

RooniIWazlib · 22/08/2022 15:57

Don't buy from sellers with no reviews or sellers with names that look like superstrong passwords i.e. random numbers and letters.

I wouldn't personally buy designer clothes on Vinted but that is up to you if you want to take that particular risk.

MeganRobs · 22/08/2022 16:00

I literally said in my post no judgment I’m not here to be judged yet people wanna take the time out of their day to try and make me feel worse about the situation it’s just unnecessary just because people have anxiety dosent mean they don’t do anything stupid I didn’t think about it I was being gullible only thought about it when I made the second purchase and realised I’d been scammed hence why I started stressing and thinking the worst. It’s not that I can’t be without the money it’s the thought of losing the money which nobody would want. Like I said to the other lady commenting I’m not entertaining unnecessary comments further

You can tell from the usernames and cheap designer goods that this is a scam. Not a very well disguised one.

You might get paper plates sent to you that’s what others have reported from these kind of sellers!

Easier said than done but try not to worry. Wait until tomorrow. I think you'll be fine. Like PP have said just report it to vinted. But can I ask what Dior bag you got for £150? I'm amazed, that's a blood good price! That only gets you a Dior Key holder on most other sites.

Mol1628 · 22/08/2022 16:06

Should also add vinted have known about these fake goods for ages and aren’t taking any action. When looking at trainers for my son we came across loads of fakes under similar usernames. Hundreds! When we told vinted they asked us to report each listing individually….. erm no I think that’s your job to weed out scammers on your site!

I've just had a quick look on the forum for you. One bit of advice given is to watch the progress of the order as if it changes to 'delivered' you only have two days to report an issue. After this date the funds will be released to the seller .
