If my son likes polishing coins, what else might he like?

He loves to get a bit of duraglit/brasso and polish coins. It’s all a bit pointless but he likes it. What else might be just as satisfying?

hes 13, very Asperger’s.

Cleaning windows? Making all the smears go away so it's perfectly clear? I find that strangely satisfying

PinkBuffalo · 21/08/2022 21:00

Would he like Meccano? That is like metal Lego my brothers loved it when they were that age

Winter2020 · 21/08/2022 21:01

Metal detecting then cleaning up his "treasures"

Gaveitall · 21/08/2022 21:02

Building balsa wood models & planes? I know an autistic lad who loves the process, the detail and the finished product. Keeps him occupied for hours & is proud of his efforts.

Tumbling rocks?

Acheyknees · 21/08/2022 21:05

Brass rubbing?

NatWestPigFamily · 21/08/2022 21:10

I second Rock tumbling.

MuffinMcLayLikeABundleOfHay · 21/08/2022 21:12

Pressure washing?

mackthepony · 21/08/2022 21:13

Padlocks

JuvenileEmu · 21/08/2022 21:14

Fossils?

mathanxiety · 21/08/2022 21:14

Smoothing out balled up tin foil.

Lovemusic33 · 21/08/2022 21:15

I was going to say ‘tumbling rocks’ and ‘gem stones’, my 16 year old dd (ASD) collects gem stones.

A free that metal detecting could be fun too.

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/08/2022 21:16

Brass rubbings in churches?

Lovemusic33 · 21/08/2022 21:17

I used to enjoy varnishing pebbles when I was a kid 🙂

Hellocatshome · 21/08/2022 21:18

Washing/polishing cars? I've seen some YouTube videos of the fine detailing they do on the inside of cars and it looks very satisfying if you like that sort of thing.

Polishing trophies etc, I bet if you tried local rugby clubs/cricket clubs etc they would be grateful for someone to take care of their trophy cabinet for them.

Mudlarking?

Ffordecortana · 21/08/2022 21:20

Oooo loving these! We do field walking and metal detecting and he’s desperate to get to Lyme Regis for a fossil weekend!

Mudlarking?

I read that brilliant book about it. Going to see what’s local to us! Thankyou for reminding me

Geocaching?

gogohmm · 21/08/2022 21:35

Talk to your local church - they may be able to get him to help (all our volunteers are elderly but a couple would be very patient and be able to help someone with fairly severe sen, we have volunteers with various sen already

We are involved with the local history society so are already church-friendly! Great idea though!

We took the dogs out earlier and he gave me a cool stone but I didn’t have any pockets and I’ve just remembered it’s tucked in my bra! Ahhh!

My cousin when younger had similar interests, also loved rock/gem tumbling, purfleet painting and barcoding and leaving them for people to find. Then moved into dungeons and dragons and magic the gathering, still plays as an adult and paints his own miniatures in excruciating detail. His car is also his baby and always gleaming. He has no diagnosis, but displays a lot of ASD traits, school recommended diagnosis but my aunt declined. He's happy though, has a small but very good group of friends and his own business buying and selling rare trainers of all things!

I think I’m looking for something to do at home
