I need a new egg kettle. Is it worth spending lots of money or are all kettles created equally?

My faithful egg kettle has gone to the small-appliance skip in the sky. It was a Russell Hobbs.

My other kettle (for tea etc) is a fancy Kitchen Aid one that I got as a present from my mum a few years ago.

M very tempted to splash out on another KA to have coordinating water and eggs kettles in nice, but different colours, but that is probably a big waste as I only use the egg kettle once or twice a week.

Are cheap kettles just as good? I had the Russell Hobbs one for about 15 years, but remember it was expensive at the time.

Yarnasaurus · 17/08/2022 22:10

HappyHappyHermit · 17/08/2022 22:11

addler · 17/08/2022 22:11

Use a pot?

Ziggerty · 17/08/2022 22:12

Following to find out what an egg kettle is!

ThereIsATInWater · 17/08/2022 22:12

I'm going to take a guess that OP boils eggs in a kettle??

Otherwise I'm stumped too.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 17/08/2022 22:12

I’m told prisoners boil eggs in their kettles. Is that what you mean?

Flapjack637 · 17/08/2022 22:13

You only need one kettle OP. Especially if if cost in the region of £100. HTH.

MuddlerInLaw · 17/08/2022 22:16

I thought I had never heard of an actual egg kettle. I googled. And realise this must be one of the reasons I inspect the inside of hotel kettles before boiling some water for tea.

Sorry, nothing else to say.

WeAreBob · 17/08/2022 22:16

Do you mean egg cooker? The little thing with a dome that you put eggs I'm after piercing them?

There really isn't much different. I had an expensive one and an £8 one. Exactly the same.

KateBushyTail · 17/08/2022 22:17

No one needs an egg kettle

PowerPack · 17/08/2022 22:18

My mind is blown too. Don't you boil eggs in a saucepan?

youngestisapsycho · 17/08/2022 22:19

A what now?

AKnitterofThings · 17/08/2022 22:21

What is an egg kettle or even a tea kettle. A kettle boils water for tea, coffee, hot chocolate, pot noodles etc but not eggs.

OnTheBoardwalk · 17/08/2022 22:21

Say what now!

I’ve got a poached egg pan but not an egg kettle. What is this thing?

Daisypod · 17/08/2022 22:22

I think op started this thread just to get everyone asking what the hell is an egg kettle! I mean I can guess and it's pretty ridiculous

ilovepixie · 17/08/2022 22:23

Egg kettle tea kettle what is all this fancy stuff! I have one kettle that boils water. Eggs go in a saucepan! My granny used to boil her eggs in a saucepan on the fire! The teapot used to go on there too!

monsterastuckiosa · 17/08/2022 22:23

One of these, OP?

Don’t you mean the kettle went on there too? A teapot isn’t supposed to go on the heat.

This thread is a whole conspiracy to confuse me.

DH uses his twice a week, we have a Bosch one. Uses a lot less water and energy than boiling an egg on the stove.

We. had a cheap (Lidl?) one before and. you had to turn a dial depending how many eggs you had and how hard the eggs should. be. A nightmare. Our current one comes with a measuring cup, far easier to deal with.

A colleague has one just for 2 eggs.

ecuse · 17/08/2022 22:35

WTF is an egg kettle?

Google would tell you much faster than posting the same question as 50 other people on this thread and then waiting for an answer. That's if your Google works like my Google, of course...
