I’m on my period and it’s so heavy and painful I’m lying here feeling like a bag of rubbish that’s been run over and left in the heat 😭

What nice things have happened to you recently? What is a small lovely thing you’ve done? I need some wholesomeness right now!

I'm at a holiday house. My kids are scrapping BUT I'm enjoying sitting on Mumsnet on my phone and choosing to ignore it

I am going to Italy on Monday; booked it 3 years ago and it has been postponed twice. 🏖🌞🤞

Have the best time! My fave country - I went to milan in easter! Where are you off to?

What a nice thing after feeling so bad earlier. This will hopefully cancel out some of the yuck and pain of this morning. Hope you are sat enjoying your wine.

Thank you so much! I definitely am. Such a relief to be feeling better. We’ve had a lovely chat with his housemates and now eating the pizza!

Your meal deal story has made me cry (in a good way) @alwaysmovingforwards

We are on holiday atm, and DBro is busy organising a "night time minecraft treasure hunt" for DS1 (6) DBro is hiding sweets in the dark garage and DM is making an "adventurers outfit" (it involves a head torch, a floaty scarf/Cape, swim goggles and the plastic gun from a toy police set)

DS2 (2) keeps telling everyone "I so happy" whenever we go anywhere like the park/pool/to look at the neighbours goats.

That outfit sounds amazing and perfect for the job @Camomila

Your DCs sound like they're having a great holiday ☺️

Lovely thread!

I picked some blackberries from our garden and ate them straight off the bush in the sun with a coffee and no I didn't wash them I'll take my chances

MoodyTwo · 13/08/2022 20:27

For the first time in my life I have picked flowers out of my garden and put them in a vase and they look beautiful!

I have never managed to keep flowers alive , and some how this year I have a garden full !

Mammma91 · 13/08/2022 20:30

I’ve just finished work and had a McDonald’s. I work very closely to the general public and it’s hard. But I had 2 wonderful people give me home grown tomatoes and a jar of home made marmalade. It made my day and I feel incredibly lucky to have a job that’s although hard, I know I’m appreciated. You get some really wonderful people in the world. 💙

I read a brilliant article today about how to keep your beaver wet in the heatwave. It was all about a pair of beavers in a nature reserve in Sussex where the water is fast diminishing. Not what I was expecting at first 🤭

Brilliant click bait title and quite heart warming!

I found out today I got on to the postgrad course to train as a counsellor! I was told the course was full but someone dropped out and I was next in line.
I've spent 20 years looking after my family. This is for me! I'm disabled and pushing this door was scary but my dh really encouraged me and I'm now really excited to start next month!

Great thread [heart eyes]

OP I hope you enjoyed your pizza etc.

We have to book trips to the dump with our council, so we have booked a tip run for tomorrow midday. The adult children had previously heard us parents considering in what order to load the car, and flocked around to load it up tonight, in the cool and dark so I hope they got everything but nevermind it is the thought that counts I am still beaming with pride that these adult kids of ours are so thoughtful nowadays because oh em gee the teenage years were quite interesting

I was in the local Tesco express yesterday, in the queue for batteries.
Old guy at the front was obviously and very visibly down on his luck and clearly not living well.
He was trying to buy a cheap sandwich and a can of coke, holding out a handful of shrapnel for the cashier.
After counting it she regrettably told him he didn't have enough for both, but did have enough for either item.
The old man looked really confused about what to do next.
Quick as a flash the man behind him stepped forward and gently said to him "hey my friend, we all need a helping hand sometimes, let's get ourselves a meal deal, I know you'd do the same for someone else".
The old man was shocked but really grateful.
They both went to the chiller cabinet at the side and picked some stuff, and he paid for it all at the self service and they left.
On my way out I saw them both sitting on the low wall eating sandwiches in the sunshine, smiling like they were sharing a joke.

It was such a nice moment I had an unexpected little cry as I drove off.

The world just isn't totally shit.
There are really good people everywhere and they walk amongst us.

I just shed an unexpected tear at that. How lovely. Just someone, not only doing something nice for someone else, but to sit with that person.

HardStareBear · 14/08/2022 00:53

@lookingformeavain that is one of the loveliest things I have ever read on MN. I hope that it makes your heart smile, always.

We have just finished (finally) renovating our back yard. It's a bog standard 2 up 2 down terraced house in the north but our back yard now looks like a little paradise. We have so many bees and butterflies and this afternoon a massive dragonfly! It's my small slice of paradise in a back street in a grotty northern town Grin

WeSent500Ravens · 14/08/2022 01:10

We do have plastic grass though, so that makes us scaaaaaam Grin

That’s so lovely!

I need a swimsuit but had put off shopping for one as I’m not feeling great about my body. Just went to Next and tried a few on. One looked shit on the hanger but absolutely wonderful on - it’s forgiving and flattering in all the right places and I actually felt good about myself.

Could you pink the swimsuit, I have tried on 5000 swimsuits for my upcoming holiday & not found one I like. Including loads from Next. Im starting to panic abit!!

Have enjoyed this thread, some of them made me well up! We've had a tough week, my 87 year old nan got taken into hospital on Wednesday with covid, Thursday night my mum got a call at 2am from hospital that no one ever wants to get - come in now and just to let you know we wouldn't recommend resuscitation should it come to it. After a terrible night she has turned a corner and is now sitting up chatting about old times Smile
